  • Watching this video makes you stronger. Really.

  • I always knew about placeboos, I just never knew what they were called

  • Pretty freakin' weird.

  • Pretty freakin' weird... Seriously?

  • I am a believer in God, but even of faith is a placebo effect, in that case placebo confirms that faith works. So, faith is useful and you don't need sugar pills for use it.

  • So, faith works.

  • @belegulo no, faith is a form of placebo, meaning what ever we beleive to be true is actually false, but it works. So no faith is not real but it works because we beleive in it.

  • Comment removed

  • It's nature, also people are naturally insecure and rely on others, it's not always a bad thing.

  • While it might be "pretty freakin weird," it's also pretty freakin obvious that it deserves more attention than is currently being given by mainstream media.. But my guess is, because it's pretty freakin easy to see that it's not profitable for drug companies, then it's pretty freakin obvious that such research will be severely hindered/downplayed/and ignored for the most part

  • The body is what the mind wants it to be. Placebos just help this along.

  • ...... wat? i dont understand

  • @Silverlance988 I can understand why you say that, assuming you're atheist n'all, but i think thats a bit harsh, i mean, ive never met you - as far as i know - the only proof i have of your existance is a piece of typing on YT, but that doesnt mean that you're just a placebo does it? You're real enough im sure...

  • Who narrated this?????

  • The only thing I got out of that video is women are wingnuts and Germans are crazy.

  • placebo is only for medicine? i thought it was for almost anything

  • @HDCYTY no it is for everything

  • By this same principle religious people feel "connection" with god, the presence of "holy spirit" or whatever...

  • @Silverlance988 exactly. religion is basically a placebo effect.

  • This is a very "level" video. =p

  • If you don't understand, here's an example. Lets say I give you a non alcoholic beer and I tell you that it is a real alcoholic beer. If you were to drink it, you would think you are drunk and you will start acting drunk because your mind thinks it's an alcoholic beer.

  • เสื้อเทานี่แม่ง เทอร์โบแปรผัน

  • 1:22 and anything with a big-auss science machine can out-perform any of them.

  • all shiny and shit.

  • is it pretty freakin' weird or does it just show that humanity's researches go into the wrong direction..? To me it seams that our brain is able to cure us, we just have to find out how to use it... it definitely seams to be able to relieve or at least reduce and/or help us to control pain (fakirs, walking on fire etc) I'm not a doctor, so please forgive me, if this thoughts are nonsense..! Personally I'd be interested in knowing if there are studies about anti-baby pills versus placebos... RSF

  • @scherraus I totally agree with you..

  • @scherraus I think you've got something there. My dad is able to block out pain with his mind, so I know about that.

  • @peetey897 I believe blocking out pain was originally discovered by those who were kept in torture chambers, they developed the skill in order to mentally survive their time and keep themselves sane.

  • @DannyJosephMagic Hm. I never thought of that, but it makes sense.

  • without Brian Molko and his music of awesomeness I suffer serious withdrawals. I am the 40% :)

  • the most common case you can see related to the placebo effect is, lookf or someone about to do something stupid, the person who doubts themselves always fucks up, the 1 who doesnt, does it

  • Sorry if someone already asked about this... Is there a reference list available of the research that contains the data shown in the excellent film?

  • He sounds like Dr. Chase from House.

  • @MisterMolby its because he's Australian

  • @kev550D go Australia!!

    From Sydney

  • ...like when people think that their god is healing them or listening to their prayers...

  • @enyskept no need for your asshole attitude

go put a new tampon in.

  • Great video, sums it up for a lot of stupid people who rely on such thinking.

  • Belive me or not... this video changed my life :D

  • A lot of pharmaceutical companies take advantage of the placebo effect and sell their useless medicine. The biggest fraud would be the makers of homeopathy. They make tons of money by taking advantage of peoples ignorance and the placebo effect.

  • Tonijesus1

The blue pill red pill thing I think is from a lewis carrol story. Hes the guy that wrote alice in wonderland.

  • holy shit its Chase from House

  • Shouldn't those graphs have a 100% death rate? ...or are they still out there?

  • The human mind in a nutshell. We have the power to cure ourselves but we have to trick the mind that it's coming from the outside...

  • what does he say during 1:22 and 1:26?

  • @camilarandow "and anything with a big ass science machine can out perform any of them"

    that is 1:22-1:26

  • @camilarandow

and anything with a big ol science machine can out perform any of them

  • 'Close door' buttons are JUST PLACEBOS!?

  • incredible.

  • Ah! Now I know what was in the blue pill and red pill in the matrix movie.

  • In my country patients must be informed about there medecin before they get them. Also with placebos. This means before they are given placebos they must know they are getting placebos.

  • Interesting! Perfect presentation.... just wondering is it possible to tell me what sort of presentation tools you are using?

  • SUB-SCRIBED :)

  • "Our minds create the medicine..." Its so weird if you think about that way; thats like saying all of what we are and live for is like a placebo We think it. Right? RIGHT? RIGHT?!!!

  • lol shiny shit n1; about to upload this to my powerpoint; doing a power-point for placebo effect for my pysch class.

  • The more people learn about placebo, the less effect it will have, since people become sceptic about medication they receive. Therefore, ignorance is bliss. At least in this field.

  • @BiohazardProductions Actually, not necessarily. Studies have shown that knowing it's a placebo versus not knowing it's a placebo is not a reliable predictor of effectiveness. (I'd post a link, but it won't take).

  • Wich program did you use to make this presentation?

  • @Usuck709 AfterEffects perhaps? There is a whole range of programs able to do this, like Flash. Go pirate yourself the adobe creative suite, unless you want to pay thousands.

  • That's pretty freakin' weird, but also pretty freakin' awesome! Off-beat question: Has a placebo ever had an effect on someone knowing that it is a placebo, but believing in the power of placebos?

  • @danielgrantnewton Yes actually. One might say that once someone knows its a placebo it ceases to be a placebo...Ignoring that, people who think "this SHOULD affect my progress, even though it could be a placebo" are often actually affected by it! It's a branch of the Rosenthal/ Pygmalion effect. I know that after taking pain killers, I feel better almost instantly (despite knowing that it should take some time to work) Crazy stuff! Great vid

  • @soyourcar Thanks for replying so thoroughly to me. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. And I will definitely look further into the Rosenthal/Pygmalion effect.

  • @danielgrantnewton Sorry for the delay, but you are very welcome! I'm glad I could help

  • When you're skeptical of everything, the placebo effect doesn't work.

  • @TheProfessorFunk G'day... Well, y' actually understated Morphine's Double-Blinded IM-Injected Placebo-Rate ; when tested on freshly Broken Bones.., it's 6 of 10 patients get Pain Relief, from Water Injections ! Search 'SunFoil Science' to view my work excluding Placebo-Effect from Fuelburn-Response to Hybridising the vehicles Electrical System... New Scientist reports that Placebo-Effect fades out, after between 3 & 6 months. So, I did some Loooong-Running Observations.

  • I just watched a placebo movie that's supposed to make me think placebos work. But once you know the movie is a placebo, then you're unswayed by its lack of content or source material.

  • This is a placebo for believing that placebos work.

  • @S747US

Thanks, now I have the placebo, that placebo for beliving that placebos work...Wait, what.

  • Sorry but that video is a lie, if you pray for healing then God will cure you, the medicines usually aren't needed because drugs are bad. Things like evolution, and the big bang and placebos are fake theories and you can't prove it.

  • @JesusChristRulesYOU thank you, i needed a good laugh :D

  • @JesusChristRulesYOU I believe in God and I still think your comment is stupid.

  • @JesusChristRulesYOU LOL evolution and medicine HAS been proved. You're probably just too stupid to actually understand any of the scientific articles.

  • @JesusChristRulesYOU Assuming troll. Continuing because bait is far too good.

What exactly makes a theory "fake"? A theory is a theory, nothing more, it can't be "fake".

Evolution is as much a theory as gravitation, go figure.

The proof of the Placebo effect is in you, writing comments like that. What's a bigger pill than "A GOD WHO KNOWS ALL"? There isn't one, it doesn't matter whether you believe in a god or a pill, your brain will do what it can if it perceives that it should.

  • Please could you add references to your sources?

I'd like to use this video for educational purposes (I'm a medical device engineer who does science outreach classes).

  • Well done! I've linked this to my blog, Honest Placebo. The placebo effect works so convincingly well that the deception isn't necessary. Nice job with the graphics - very enjoyable to watch! Check the article at Honest Placebo dot com and let me know if you want a particular attribution.

  • God has the same effect. That's why so many people believe he exists.

  • Powers of the mind, old news

  • Actually, if you someone says a pill (with no therapeutic value) increases pain and it does, it's not placebo, it is nocebo.

    But that's just semantics.

  • There are plenty of time wasters/frequent flyers in the hospitals that come in for no reason at all- just send them to a homeopathic place as a placebo- works to placate the morons :)

  • hold your nose, stick your finger in your throat, no gag reflex.

  • why are they making us pay for fake pills!!!!!!!!

  • I guess this explains why my antidepressants never worked for me, because I didn't believe they would. That is, if the effect of the mind can actually have an effect on medicines that should do something as well (which I believe it does).

    Anyway, interesting video.

  • It's all shiny and shit.

  • And thus explains religion.

  • @PantheraLeoKing oh fuck off

  • My life broke apart when i realised that those buttons on buisy intersections do nothing

  • Sooo.. if i take that pill they use in "Limitless" i'll actually be smarter? :D

  • @heavenlou you will probably feel like you get things more if you feel you will

  • @heavenlou well you won`t because you`d know it doesn`t work. Belief is the driving force of placebo.

  • Oh yeahh. they used "placebos" as fake morphine in the civil war when they didnt have enough painkillers and the men felt no pain when getting limbs cut off.

  • this guys voice is so soothing

  • It can also just make you think you're better when you really aren't, making you worse in the end.

  • whats a placebo button?

  • @brierbas Crosswalk buttons

  •

  • POWER BANDS!

  • I took placebos for winning the lottery, but it didn't work. Damn Placebos!

  • This is a well made video. I like this video but when I checked out your other videos, I wasnt so impress. Please make more educational videos like this. Thank you.

  • So if I take a pill that claims to make me smarter but doesn't actually do anything, and I start thinking I'm smarter I actually will be?

  • So I can convince people that I put laxatives in their drink and they will shit their pants? COOL!!

  • Heres an idea, instead of the medicine companies just making placebos and fucking us in the ass with high prices, why dont they spend some time and try to develope something that actually does what its supposed to.

  • @paleryder22 ...you clearly don't understand what the hell a placebo is or how it is used. They are not "sold"... they are used for medical testing purposes to gague effects, etc. And considering drug companies pay people to take part in most of these tests basically says your comment is moronic.

  • @AtalixZero Yeah i understand what a placebo is dumb ass, something that you take under the pretense that it is an actual drug, when it's not. And while were on the topic of moronic, nice grammar, glad to see you barely graduated from second grade.

  • @paleryder22 I mispelled "gauge". Horrible grammar. Thanks for correcting me, Mr. "Develope". And I don't know how pathetic and underachieveing YOUR second grade was, but we didn't "graduate" from second grade... we just went to third.

  • Wrong, it doesnt actually increase or decrease pain, it only makes you THINK that its doing that. Hence the name, placebo.

  • hookup now bit.ly\pqcesS

  • Religion....the ultimate placebo.

  • Cancer placebo, lets see just how strong our minds are.

  • This video should be renamed, "Selling Bunk Drugs 101".

  • I think this says a lot about the power of the human mind.

  • Is there such a thing as a negative placebo like when believeing a medicine will not help actually causes it to not help?

  • @GrimPrince Yes. I think he mentions it in 1st third of video.

  • Interesting little video here, learnt about placebo's recently!

  • it's pretty freakin' awesome!!

  • interesting.haha

  • shiny and shit.

  • ohhh that video is suggestions is calling my penis

  • Shiny and Shit.

  • I wonder if you could placebo someone to death... or OD on placebos...

But it is pretty interesting how we can cure ourselves with the right stimulation.

  • all shiney and shit XD

  • Except you forget to mention that a Placebo only works on MINOR complications, in other words it can not nor will not cure or make your body change for the better if you suffer from a REAL illness like AIDS or something.

  • @fix520 Not entirely true there are a couple cases where patients have taken placebos and cured cancer

  • can we cure cancer with placebos that's the real question!

  • wait, how does a woman take placebos for 5 years without realising they were taking placebos?

  • oh great, now placebo won't make me feel better... or will it still?

  • @bballchinni

Usually you don't know that you're taking a placebo and think you're taking this kick ass medicine.

  • @LeeroyFan101 ahh true...

  • *ahem*

    PILLS HERE!

  • @inyourfacesociety Left 4 dead reference? o:

  • Comment removed

  • Can we cure cancer with placebo?

  • @lunimartiandrei

well, as I heard if the doctor said to the patient that he gave him a brand new, super, rare medicine and the guy believed him, there could be some improvements, sometimes it even cured the cancer. But it won't work with every person.

But actually it's not the placebo which will cure an illness, it's your mind and the belief

  • @majom89 I think it is more easy to manipulate people then searching for anditot! And if this will work in future search for me!

  • WAIT WHATTT...PLACEBOS ARE FAKE??? :::sobs hysterically:::

  • YOU SYMBOLIZE HOPE

  • Im gonna give my girl placebo ectact and see what happens

  • mmmmmmmmm placebo good

  • what the fuck have i just seen?

  • @MagdielDominguez NOOOOO is this going to become a thing now? STOP

  • What is the effectiveness of placebos after watching this video?

  • tell me something I don't fucking know.

  • is the opposite of a placebo a jinx?

  • this is great

  • i take pills that are all shiny and shit!!!

  • So in " The Matrix" when Neo takes the blue pill are u telling me its all in his mind ? Now thats pretty frekin weird XD

  • memebase

  • FACEPALM

  • Funny Stand Up Comedy

Neumann, your Favorite mailman is at it again. Doing stand up and is funnier than ever. Click, watch and like. Don't forget to comment. Thank You All.

  • so what i got from this, religion is the biggest placebo effect on earth?

  • @1:36 all shiny and shit

  • MIND FUCK!!

  • Wait... do you mean that the brain can be lied to in order to cause a therapeutical effect? Man, our brains are so effin' screwed.

  • How the fuck would you get addicted to placebos?

  • WHAT? Those buttons don't actually do anything?!

  • @nzst2011 my whole life I was living in the belief that they work... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    xD

  • @nzst2011 that's exactly what I thought!

  • @nzst2011 Depends. Some actually are wired, others aren't.

  • @nzst2011 NOPE!! if you press the button in a specific sequence it changes ALL of the lights to red, that is how the police turn the lights red. (i THINK its 3 quick, 2 slow, 1 , 2 slow, 3 quick)

  • is this video a piece of crap because i think it is?

  • Well..the animation was cool. Shrug

  • what happens when you take the blue and red? will I feel purple?

  • Placebo side effects? :D

  • Wow...Nice! :D

  • shini and shit? HAHAHAHHAHAHAAHA
