I figured it out. At around the :06 mark you can see a shadow of someone moving behind Kane and the ref toward the bottom left of the screen. A second later he appears between Kane and Franzen. He was up by the blueline and came down to the goal line, but he is blocked from cameraview by the ref and Kane until he pops in out of nowhere.
