Nearly all these "impossible" split conversions rely on a pin bouncing off the side panels or rebounding out of the pit. That does not happen very often. I managed to convert a 4 - 6 split when I was only 15 years old! Never done it again since. I saw a woman succeed with an 8 - 10 split when I was still at school. In both cases, the pin slid very slowly across and just brushed the back of the other one.

It always irritated me that, for all the shows I watched back then, I never caught one of the "7-10" telecasts. But then again, I might have had to change my underwear, too.
