also you can do some extra pruning but make sure u do it early spring, normally the time wouldnt matter so much but as the tree is already in stress do it early spring before third week of april, golden rule for pruning is only dead, damaged, or rubbing branches OR up to 1/3 at a time, no more. also cut as close to the trunk as possible but dont damage the growth collar (its that little bit that kinda sticks out 1/4" to 1" along the branch u are about to prune, usually thicker part)
....could be looking at root compaction, common myth on tree's their roots do not go deep they stay 0-4 feet in the ground and spread out up to twice the spread of the tree itself, if this is the case with the machinary, monthly areations and thin over raking's of peat moss is ur best bet but it may be too late. Root compaction is kind of hit and miss, doesnt alway effect a tree, isnt always reversible, etc etc
never thought my past career would help a fellow driver, thing with tree's is they die slow, grow slow die slow, it could be dieing but dont panic as there was root damage its compartmentalizing itself, letting parts die off as it doesnt have root capacity for them, untill it can take the time to regrow roots, what ur doing pruning away dead is perfect, keep doing that, next major concern is the work u got done were there machines driven all around the tree? u could be looking.. continued ^^
