You said the lighting but it's actually the Mise-En-Scene if there is something else red in the shot it doesn't become part of the lighting its part of the mise-en-scene. But I 100% understand what you mean ;)

I did it a different way, with the chroma key; basically deleted the color with a green screen effect and turned the layer black and white, then put a normal copy of the layer behind that layer... ended up with the same thing... just dunno which is more effective (cuz lighting is always a bummer :P)

I'd just use photoshop and use the mask but if you don't have Photoshop, open your project, make it full screen, print screen it, open paint, paste it, save, and make it as a background. :P I'm sure there is a much simpler way of doing it but it was the first that came to my mind.

If you add another color corrector 'saturate greens' and set the colour to red, play around with the settings a bit more and the ball will stand out even more.

It's easier to remove the surrounding red color that wont go away if you lower the "limit saturation" - high - alittle & then at "limit hue" drag the smooth up more! In my opinion :D
