  • Update. Spoke too soon. Monitor was not fixed. So I took it apart again. I unsoldered all the capacitors in the switch mode PSU and measured their ESR. The domed capacitor was really bad, but another capacitor was borderline. So I ordered new 105degC low ESR capacitors from an Ebay seller, and this time replaced *all* capacitors. This time it really does look fixed. Total cost £3. It might be worth you giving it a try. I really love the picture on this monitor. I prefer it to my 24" Dell.

  • I've just fixed this exact problem with my W240D monitor. I found a "doming" electrolytic capacitor in the switch mode PSU. This is a common sign of a failing capacitor which is "drying out" due to too much heat. I replaced it with an exact replacement (same value, voltage). Put everything back together and the fault appears to be fixed. I did try to post a more detailed explaination, but ran out of characters!

  • I've got this exact problem! I was worried it was my relatively new graphics card but after seeing all the comments on this video, I think it must be the old Hyundai. I've had mine for about 4 and half years now. (TN version)

  • loved this monitor so far, but 3years 1month after I bought it the same happened here :(

tried everything I could think of except tearing it apart...

and it seems I'm out of luck regarding the 3 year warranty....guess I have to start searching for a new monitor that has at least a picture quality as good and beautiful as this one :(

  • 4,5 years here, same effect :(

    overheat

  • i certainly wont buy another hyundai monitor. 3 years is not a good lifespan for a monitor. fortunately pc monitors are coming down in price now. has anybody managed to get the hyundai flickering problem repaired by hyundai? how much would it cost to get it repaired or is it just not worth the hassle.

  • Just recently I had exactly the same flickering problem with my W240D (PVA). It occurred when my monitor was 2 years 8 months old. I had my monitor repaired via the reseller for free, but it took 6 weeks.

The service report stated briefly "Replaced Mainboard longtested ok". The panel appears to be still PVA.

  • @antsaa81 do you know how much it cost to get this flickering problem repaired. would it be expensive as i have this problem. mine is outside of warranty.

  • @210482fmj Unfortunately I have no clue. My monitor was still under warranty.

  • wats mac any way

  • What is PVA?

  • @adam1611

PVA is a type of panel technology used in LCD monitors. It's offers better image quality, viewing angles and colour to the cheaper TN types.

  • My W240D died after 2 years and 3 just like radishhoedown! Shame it was a great monitor while it lasted.

  • @ gohan2091, I had the same thing happening on mine, and it took me sending it in 4 times to get them to replace it. Finally I have it here, but for the price I spent on shipping, I could have purchased a new monitor almost twice! It's just hard when you spend over 500 bucks on a "quality" monitor that it breaks and fails, and when sent in doesn't get fixed the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th times!!! Good luck. Insist that they pay for the return shipping after the 2nd time!!! They did it for me!!!

  • @wslines

Wow, 4 times before it finally got fixed? What were they doing with it? Keeping it in storage, then sending it back to you?! If that happens to me, I will have a right go at them (in a polite way)

Did you know what was wrong with it at the end? Was overheating the issue?

I'm in the UK and Hyundai collects and re-delivers free of charge so I am losing no money. What I am losing though is patience and time as my computer is very important to me and I can't use it without a monitor.

  • Same here, dude. I've sent an RMA top Hyundai and they are shipping me a new one... I just have to wait...

  • How do you know you're getting a new one? They insisted mine would be repaired. Check out part 3 of 3 video I uploaded recently to see how well my "repaired" monitor works.

  • my W240D is doing the exact same thing, I bought it 2 years and 3 months ago. I suspect it could be an overheating problem. Also the touch buttons no longer work reliably. how was the service from hyundai when you contacted them?

  • Customer Service was good when I was speaking to them on the phone and via email. I've received my replacement monitor, check out my new video (part 3 of 3) to find out how I got on.........

  • I have tested this monitor at another home on another PC and the problem still occurs, although it took 2 hours of using the monitor before it would finally start to flicker.

This rules out everything else so the problem MUST be monitor. I will contact Hyundai about this as I have a 3 year warranty with them.

  • I had a similar problem with my W240D. Instead of your flickering, my monitor would sometimes flicker white lines once in awhile and it is repeatable by doing a certain thing (mouse over certain areas).

Then sometimes the monitor would fade white, then black. If i alt tab into another window, even minimized windows, the flicker and abnormalities stop.

I've switched everything in the computer short of motherboard and another i7 processor. I then used a different monitor and its gone.
