  • Fuck yeah!

  • regardless of the notes or chords he plays, i've always thought eddie hazel had the best tone ever. just purely the way his guitar sounds is so cool- cuts through the mix but not too trebley, tons of sustain, a sharp attack, and that lazery fuzz. funny though- i was so sure he played a gibson based on that tone, and here he is on a strat...

  • Same effects that Prince used.

  • @tolanstout Or just the opposite. (Note the year.) Hazel was a major influence to many great guitarists ...

  • X C LENT

  • what scumbag disliked this video?

  • サイコウノギタリスト

  • Eddie Hazel Was The "David Ruffin" of Funkadelic!! In a positive way.

  • THis shizzle gets very repetitive after a while. ... just saying is all...

  • @ahardiman251 U have no ear for subtelty

  • @ahardiman251 then stop watching it....just saying, is all.

  • @funkedbyinjection I did, then you went and sent me a reply, now I'm back here again!!! Sake!! lol

  • @ahardiman251

Arguably any musical style does, but it just depends on a persons taste. After all who can really define what is art and what is not?

  • @Trilobite8jesus Too true... don't get me wrong, this is hot as hell but the licks are very similar through-out, i'm not trying to take anything away from it, and as for ear for subtelty, I do, very much so.

  • R.I.P. Guitar Funk Master {Eddie Hazel}

  • i kept hoping Eddie would whack George in the face with the headstock when he whistled in his face, lol

  • R I P BROTHER HAZEL THE SECOND BEST GUITARIST TO JIMI HENDRIX AND THERE WHERE NOT MANY IF ANY IN HIS ROOM BUT HE WOULD HAVE WELCOMED YOU ..

  • tHIS BROTHER COULD JAM , HE HAD THAT HENDREX FEEL .

  • OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Funkadelic relic

  • Does someone know that topic is this???? Incredible Eddie, Not only is a virtuosity with the guitar, something is to express very much deep mas. RIP

  • @tintintiritis It's called Cosmic Slop, which is the title track of the album. By the way, "tema" in Spanish is "track" or "song" in English, not topic.

  • @loobycliff This is Standing on the Verge of Getting it on, not Cosmic Slop

  • @chiknfulio I beg your pardon, yes that is correct.

  • Alguien sabe que tema es este????

Increible Eddie, No solo es virtuosismo con la guitarra, es expresar algo mucho mas profundo. RIP

  • Eddie's guitar strings were our souls and he played them well. Fly-on !!

  • damn

  • DAAAAMN -He got more chops than the butcher!!

  • Man, his tone was smokin'!

  • Eddie Hazel = Eddie Hazel. RIP

  • Eddie was JUST AS good as HENDRIX!

  • very nice video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • From the background music, I think this was a let-your- hair-down version of "Standing On The Verge".

  • Who the raas could dislike this?

  • SUPAAAA BAAAAAAAAAD ASSSSSSSSSSSSSS >>>>>>>>

  • it's impossible to say what's more fun...Eddie's playing or Funkenstein's enjoyment of it!!

  • i get high off of eddie playin guitar, can u feel me.

  • Somebody needs to put the whole version of this jam.

  • What's the title of this music please?

  • Hey where can I see the part following Eddie Hazel when michael Hampton is invited into the mix??

  • @jzguru You don't want to... it is kinda embarrassing. I don't know anybody who would be able to follow that. It was on youtube years ago, but got taken down

  • @chiknfulio

thanks man for the response... I mean listening to Eddie there was no comparison... Ive followed every guitarist out there AND no one could make that guitar speak quite like he could.. I would have been curious to have seen Michael respond to that in his own style BUT at no point have I ever thought (even with different styles) that Michael even came close to Eddie.

  • Lemme just say that the guy knew WHAT to play WHEN.

  • what song is this?

  • Yes Michael. We definately have a groove going on here.

    My God, this is beautiful.

6 people are clearly under 30 years old.

  • @vinnycriss What does age have to do with taste? I just turned 22 last month.

  • @TitaniousGrubbs Age has nothing to do with whether or not you have good taste. However, the kind of music you listen to is limited to the kind of music that's being created at the time.

  • @vinnycriss Your last comment is really hypocritial of itself. If age has nothing to do with taste then how does what's being created at the time have an effect on what you listen to? Time period is directly corresponding to age, the only difference is that younger people will alway have a much wider spectrum of music to listen to.

  • @TitaniousGrubbs Music that you hear today is not as well constructed musically as it was when I was your age. What passes for talent today wouldn't have cut it back them. You simply do not see or hear talent like this - as a rule - today. BY EXTENTION, I will assume that the reason today's music is popular is because today's generation believes it is good music, and thinks these people are musicians. I argue that they are not. There is relatively little creativity outside of the producer.

  • @vinnycriss My guess is that you are only talking about the music to find on the radio or the top charts. You've always got to look outside the box and find those bands or artists that make real music. Yes there is a lot of no-talent bull shit acts up there, but that is purely from what the media feeds the general public. But even then there will always be the vast archives of great music from the past. So no one can really say that the music of today is terrible, cause we always have yesterday.

  • Yes Michael. We definately have a groove going on here.

    My God, this is beautiful.

  • This is beautiful. God, where has this kind of musical joy gone?

  • All you young folks out ther under 30 years of age - watch and learn children. This is music.

  • Eddie Hazel was so filthy good. George Clinton knew it, too. While Hendrix was "out there" with deep roots in the Blues, Hazel was just gritty and SOOOOO soulful! He was like the nasty, city version of what Hendrix was trying to do.

I wonder if the two ever met??

  • what dvd is this from?..

  • Eddie you blessed us all wiff juss a touch of LOVE from your God gift he gave you, may u ress in P FunK in Heaven with the LORD, Thank U and Your Fam for allowing us a P funk of U !

  • what song is this?..

  • @aspiringguitarist91 its standing on the verge of getting it on, later on during the solo you can hear the other guitarist play the main riff behind Eddie, about 2:14.

  • This is an awesome video post!!! From 1976 to now I have seen PFunk at least 7 times live in Charlotte, N.C. I didn't realize how good I had it then but now I know. This is what I grew up with...PFunk forever!!!

  • This is awesome. I remember watching pfunk in my early years and didn't realize how good they were, but watching this & looking back this was the BOMB!!!

  • The dislikes are fuckheads.

  • Wow...truly phenomenal lead guitarist. Amazing.

  • eddie hazel you are my hero

  • My god, that flanged-tone! That sound could make every army in the world drop to their knees and shit themselves.

  • I think we just moved past standing on the verge of getting it on

  • DAY-um.

  • U KNOW U FUNK'KAY WHEN YOU CAN ACTUALLY HEAR THE GEE'TAW TALK'N LOL, ED'DAY ED'DAY WAS DA SHET, DANG Y CAN'T WE JUST HAVE 1 OF THESE CAT'S LEFT :( ED'DAY OR JIM'MAY DANG :(

  • His hands are fuckin huge! Best guitar player ever...

  • where can I buy this? what is the name of the cd???? please i have to have this

  • this fucking rocks I want more

  • what song is this?

  • @skizmsucks23 Standing on the Verge

  • @skizmsucks23 Standing on the Verge.

  • i love jimi, but i love eddie more he was also a great singer, which jimi was not.i always thought jimi and eddie would have been great together with eddie singing lead.

  • @mj11572 While Jimi is, well, THE Jimi, i agree with your views. i also feel eddie is a little more melodious in his phrasing. Kind of more harmonious

  • what's the name of that song please?

  • kick ass goosebump pumpin groove vibes!

  • As Hazel told GP, "I listened to Jimi a lot. It was very uncanny that our styles were alike, but that was what I was hearing inside. I wanted to make the guitar an extension of my singing. My style is really like solo vocalist guitar."

  • He learned nice from Hendrix.

But Jimi will forever be the Voodoo Child of the burning Guitar.

  • This is FIRE!!

    rocknsoulbro.

  • I NEED A MACHINE TIME !

  • Eddie Hazel!

  • THIS GUY! THIS GUY!

  • ...Yes, this song is "Standing on the Verge of Getting it On," from the Funkadelic album of the same name.

  • he is 1 tall ass guitar player

  • I love how clearly sober they all are

  • Hazel = Black Zappa

    or

    Zappa = White Hazel

    (take your pick)

  • @polywacket

nice comparison. They were both so rhythmic that the blues riffs they utilized were incredibly fluid, seamless and accelerating. Would have loved to hear Hazel cover Stink Foot and Cosmik Debris, and Montana for that matter. shear ripping.

  • @polywacket I think of it like this:

    Hazel = funk hendrix

    bootsy = bass funk hendrix

and considering where Hendrix wanted to go with his music (he was in the process of putting together a soul/funk style band with tons of musicians when he died) and the amount of acid he did, eddie and funkadelic were probably the closest thing to a continuation of jimi's legacy as any band out there

  • @polywacket no for me Hazel = Hendrix n'2

  • @polywacket

I definitely see/hear the resemblance...but Zappa isn't exactly white now is he?

  • @polywacket they are both brilliant

  • @polywacket I totally disagree. Zappa is a good rocker, he's more of an innovator on the writer/concept/leader level.

Hazel is uncomparable on guitar or interchangeable. RIP HAZEL.

  • @polywacket i'll choose black zappa

  • Comment removed

  • he burned that shit down man, didnt he :)

i think this is the only time i hav ever had bad feelings toward George - get away from Eddie while he's playin like that !!!

  • People What Cha Doin' ...Standing On The Verge!!

    Yeah Baby!!

  • is it just me or is that guitar TINY?

  • Eddie's soul heartaches, joys, pain and "all" comes out of in his guitar playing. A true musicians, musician. John Fruciante is the only other current player who can do the same on this caliber.

  • Theres i just something about this guy

    so much depth.!

    Jimi set the bar

But Eddie Hazel did it and funked.!

  • @gr00vechild

you should listen to some of jimis later studio stuff, some released on post death albums but most on bootlegs, the man played the funk like no other, if only he would have lived to explore more genres.

  • One of the most underrated guitarists in rock history

  • I think the biggest difference between Eddie Hazel and every other guitarist I can think of is the fact that if you listen, every note he ever played, came from his soul! You can hear it if you close your eyes and listen. Check it out...

  • What makes these artists so good their ability to step back and let the groove continue after their spotlight solos and shit. Why bands haven't understood how to keep this balance in other groups is a mystery to me. Parliament Funkadelic 4 fuckin ever.

  • God damn...talent to make the gods envious. Genious!

  • Sometimes this is actually TOOOOOOOOO good! Sweet Dreams brother .....

  • eddie and mike both played on never buy texas froma cowboy, eddie co wrote i'm holding you responsible.

  • Brilliant

  • You know, it is a F***ing travesty that Eddie and Michael Hampton aren't (or wasn't in Eddie's case) bloody huge megastars who are still worshipped as gods today and have hundreds of millions in the bank.

You'll have to excuse this slight impoliteness but... If I was American, i'd be ashamed.

  • @torqueing Your a bloke and heres why.. People werent ready for these guys the time they were successful and most of the general music population still isnt.. These musicans were so far ahead of their time musically its insane, the people that love Pfunk have a common bond that most will never understand.. thats why Hazel and Hampton never made Millions, in the big picture they played the funk for the funkateers and not the consumer.. feel me?

  • Do you know the name of this song ?

  • @lavetonregard Standing on the verge of getting it on

  • OK... I had a chance to work around, with, talk with Eddie... he is every bit the peer of Jimi Hendrix...

  • I watch this video at leaset once a week just to remind me who this muthafuckka this, and I always get the same answer:He's The Truth, the straight fucking Truth.

  • Eddie was the real shit x

  • Love this. Especially the ending when he plays light yet so smooth.

  • Comment removed

  • sounds a lot like frampton...regardless this is still some rockkn funk...glad i found out about eddie

  • unbelievably solid, smooth yet funky sound.

  • I find it kinda interesting most of his picking strokes are down like Hendrix and not alternate when it seems it would be easier to alternate for as fast as some of his playing is. Interesting. I prolly use alternate more than just down picking but what ever feels natural is the key i guess, Either way....One Baddazz solo and scatting

  • Love the sounds, I can listen to this stuff all the time.Watch out for new artist BRANDON JAROD. This guy is the next superstar! Release OCT. 2010

  • SOMEONE PLEASE... What is the name of this AMAZING track?

  • @shaq666uk If I'm not mistaken it was done as part of "Standing on the Edge of Gettin It On".

  • @SarahRachel59 the song is "Standing on the Verge of Gettin it On" not trying to be a prick just letting you know cause ITS REALLY IMPORTANT

  • @Thebattlewalrus Oh thanks! Sorry I said "Edge" instead of "Verge". I knew better, too.

  • I like when he looked @George Clinton @ 1:43 to see if he wanted him to stop,George signaled for him to keep going, look @ the big smile on Eddie's face.

  • I bet there are a lot of guitar players out there who wish the spirit of Eddie Hazel would channel through their bodies for even just five minutes.

  • @SarahRachel59 it's been known to happen (channeling eddie while playing)

  • long live pfunk

  • I agree he wast a Hendrix imitator he had his own style and has influenced countless of guitarists. Long live the pfunk nation

  • Also Stella, I haven't met Mike yet but it seems that you have a prob with him. Is that so and why? I hear he's a cool and humble dude too.

  • @stellahazel: ran into Steve from the PFunk Allstars. We talked a lot about Eddie. He told me alot of interesting stories. One thing thou is that Eddie helped him learn the instrument and was a very humble dude about his playing. We are all here in Vegas.

  • I hear delta!!! You could find this stuff anywhere!! The guitarist of P-funk don't get enough props.

  • Who the fuck could dislike this!!!

  • eddie hazel, jimi hendrix, errie isley and slash r all in the same league

  • @mrsoundwave No way is Slash in those other guys' league. Hahaha.

  • Every music video on youtube should have comments disabled.

  • Jimi or Eddie??/

  • One of the most underrated guitartist ever dude could Fing Jam.

  • hey every one if you like Eddie hazel you love this rare song i just posted that is the only video of this song ever on youtube. Its call Until It Rains

  • oh yeahhhhhhhhhh

  • Dudes on You Tube talk shit and no nothing- Great video!

And I play a ton of funk guitar and honestly Hazel is smoother in in many ways than Hendrix and people should realize Hendrix is great but you cannot obsess about him or you will neglect many great players that sometimes rival him. And with all due respect because Jimi is one of my heroes...

  • @mardebcin that's what makes YouTube so interesting. first you find these types of literally priceless recordings,.... ain't gonna find this stuff "shopping"; but then you get poster who really know what is happening to post opinions. thanx to mardebcin and Earlbein for offering up opinions and info. 'cause I really like this style of lead guitar and Hazel is one of the best I ever heard. this song in particular is a real treat because this is the best up beat soloing I've heard him do

  • @1Delta You got it right. There of course is soooo much pathetic stuff here from 12 year old kids and whatnot , but there is the other thing that you point out... and it's great. Accumulation of knowledge. We benefit. That's the Internet. The good part. And yes ... this song is some really great solo! Check out his picking hand. What is he doing there??? Damn!

  • @1Delta eddie is sooooooooooooooooooo umderrated

  • @Gflyallday thanx for the reply. Took me so long to even find out who the guitarist was on Maggot Brain, that when I finally found out it was a guy named Eddie Hazel, and then got to see the precious few clips of him here on YouTube, well I guess that explains my enthusiasm. The other great guitarists whose live were tragically cut short were Charlie Christian and Tommy Bolin, just to name two of my favorites. With Hazel, he was the first generation post Jimi Hendrix, who was a real shame

  • @1Delta im ccfunk now. earlbien is my brother. peace.

  • this is so genial :D!

  • what i read was some motown session musicians played on some of the the tracks on the first funkadelic album. on some tracks but not the whole lp. bob babbit(bass), earl van dyke(keyboards) & ray monette(guitar). i dont know if its true but thats what i read. in dave thompson funk, a review book & on the motherpage site. true or false?

  • @Earlbein I know that Ray Monette from Rare Earth and Dennis Coffey from Motown were on Mommy What's a Funkadelic. Oddly enough Billy Bass took lessons from James Jamerson when they were in Detroit

  • all this banter back and forth on here its like kids on a playground. the original funkadelic was great, but the later parliament/funkadelic i think was great also. eddie hazel and billy bass both are bad ass players. never dispute that. didnt they both play in the later groups afterwords? i think billy bass played from 94 to04. i met him once or twice during then. i read somewhere that motown sesion players ( bob babbit, bass & earl van dyke, keys) played on the first funkadelic lp . true ?

  • with this full blown James Brown funkbeat on the one, for you samplers out there, just lay this monster down over any JB epic, and I guarantee you it will fit like a glove!

  • this guy plays so rhythmically free, that what reminds me of Hendrix. He does throw in some nice quotes from Power of Love through 0:55.

this guy is just plain phenomenal.

  • a total original. man, I've been looking like crazy for some up close Eddie Hazel, but can't get enough!!!!!!!

  • hmm it doesn't sound like standing on the verge of getting it on but you may have right ;)

  • Hendrix would be so proud . . . Eddie, Jimi, Gary, Wes . . . I miss you all . . . I'm left here with my Fender Strat .. . .

  • does anyone know what kind of pedals he used to achieve such effects and sustain?

  • @dislexia49 i hear a phaser, maybe flanger, a wah, and a hendrix kinda feedback

  • Awesome.

  • Another student from the Hendrix school.

  • Eddie Rock In Peace!!Dude!!

  • what's the title of that amazing song please? :)

  • @vasavoirkijesui It's Standing on the Verge of Getting It On, although the recorded version isn't as far out

  • Here's how I see it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about anything that's up for debate, but some things are beyond debate. So, if you think Eddie is an awesome guitarist, that's fine (and true), and if you think some people play better than others based on the colour of their skin, that's fine too. But if you believe the latter and think people are wrong to label you a racist, well, unfortunately for you that's one issue that wasn't up for debate.

  • This was off da HOOK!

  • never play it faster than you can sing it... Eddie got it right...

    dude is legendary.

  • This is Too Good, if that's possible.....

  • Comment removed

  • @boxingin Agree with , after i watched "Maggot Brain" , Eddie is number 1 in my Book.

  • @JustPassingBy2010 I was wrong. Eddie Hazel is ranked amongst the best. I think he's at # 46-Rolling Stone-which is still way too low becuase he's a whole lot better than most cats out there. Cool page you got there buddy I like it!

  • @rwk1983 your right,,,its jimi hendix and then eddie hazel..

  • @FNGSniper no eddie hazel is not even in the top 10 or 20 for that matter. while jimi most certainly is

  • @rwk1983 LMAO!!! :)

  • Eddie was just as good as Jimi with his own style of playing. I'm glad he wasn't a Hendrix imitator, he was just Eddie

  • @dogshit71 I agree with you Eddie could have held his own with any guitarist out there. But coud most of them held there own with him? I don't think so! Although I still think My man Jimi Hendrix is untouchable.

  • @dogshit71 and JUST Eddie was the best we cud aver dream of.......
