Dam watching this brings back a lot memories. Bad ones. I did 5 years in prison, and it was the longest 5 years of my life. Very hard to keep your sanity in those places.
I see prison society gradually becoming civilian society through the 'boiling frog theory,' and would like to believe that we could live in a society with no cages if there is inspiration to those willing to work out a blueprint. Problem is most civilians are skeptical and will never think about it. It is the responsibility of the individual that must protect themselves and not to trust someone to cage people; it only leaves room for manipulation.
There is a pretty good chance the ward hires people to start gang fights to keep prisons up and running to build more cages so as receive more money from grants. When will people realize that keeping people confined like this is actually worse for rehabilitation? Its the taxpayers that pay for all of it; free health care, food, shelter, education, etc. Shame on people that think if they are prison, they deserve to be there. Lets put that person in a cage with false evidence see if they like it.
If i were in jail, i would sit in my cell in the A-Block (Protective Custody) and play the guitar and working out, only to go out to shower, and i'd make sure no one were there.

If Oliver is there only on a parole violation, and he's due to be released in a short amount of time, why is he in maximum security prison? Doesn't that seem very irresponsible to throw him in with people who aren't getting out anytime soon? I mean people doing life might be jealous and want to kick his ass.
I could never be a guard. I don't have the attention to detail......I'd either get fucked up, or someone would do something on my shift, and it'd be my fault. I am damn glad I don't have to do this job.
@Newenlightenmentnow - I know many people who've been prison officers, they say that being 100% alert all the time is critical to not getting fucked up on your shift, lol.

The term Corrections doesn't really apply to Prisons any more for the most part. Today its about Punishment which is also important but if you release an Inmate who's in the same condition as they were when they entered Prison or worse. Then they'll be back in Prison. Corrections needs to return to the Prison System.
Circumstances create the individual. Putting a large number of people with lifelong sentences (that is to say people with nothing to loose) within the same confined area is probably not the most productive alternative for society in the long run. Crime is a product of poverty, so the real question we should ask is who should we blame for the existence of poverty?

I know what it is like to live in a life of poverty and I nearly mixed myself up in the wrong crowd because of it, but thankfully I found education as a way out of it, even though I will still have to struggle to get my way out of the poverty and do something financially with what I have learned! Ex convicts have a hard row to hoe. Companies do not want to hire them, and apartment complexes do not want to rent to them. That part of life is really unfair.
They served their sentences. And yet society still wants to punish them. That is the way it is and I can't change it.

TECHNOLOGY CAN MAKE THE YARDS SAFER - an idea of mine: bring some kind of new technology that will --electrocute-- every single prisoner in the yard when a riot happens. No bs gas bombs. ELECTROCUTE THEM ALL HARD FOR A LOT OF SECONDS enough to make them wanna cry. Prisons are too unsafe :(

The term Corrections doesn't really apply to Prisons any more for the most part. Today its about Punishment which is also important but if you release an Inmate who's in the same condition as they were when they entered Prison or worse. Then they'll be back in Prison. Corrections needs to return to the Prison System.

Putting a large number of people with lifelong sentences (that is to say people with nothing to loose) within the same confined area is probably not the most productive alternative for society in the long run. Crime is a product of poverty, so the real question we should ask is who should we blame for the existence of poverty?

I know what it is like to live in a life of poverty and I nearly mixed myself up in the wrong crowd because of it, but thankfully I found education as a way out of it, even though I will still have to struggle to get my way out of the poverty and do something financially with what I have learned! So long as we let money govern this world and make it our religion we will always have criminals because of poverty! Let us take this world back from the greed!

I find it quite easy to be a law abiding citizen. Don't steal, don't lie, and don't kill. I realized at a young age prison was somewhere I didn't want to be. I was a thief for awhile. And a fire starter.
Ex convicts have a hard row to hoe. Companies do not want to hire them, and apartment complexes do not want to rent to them. That part of life is really unfair.
They served their sentences. And yet society still wants to punish them. That is the way it is and I can't change it.

They're in PRISON because they are convicted FELONS, they gave up their chance to get a good job and vote in this country when they decided to rape, rob, or kill their fellow citizen. Not to mention that the government can't dictate who gets hired, that's decided by the employer and most employers decide not to hire felons, for very obvious reasons.

You can't turn a whore into a housewife and you can't turn someone from a fucked up background who has lived a fucked up life into someone that can work beside normal, functional members of society. Would you want to work beside a man that had raped young children? It's a romantic idea to think about felons turning their lives around and being assimilated into society but it's just not realistic.
