Regardless of what the family is really like, I think the mother was right when she said he was manipulative. That journalist did seem dishonest and deceptive. I understand that it is hard too be unbiased when doing a documentary on nazies. Some people expect such a documentary to be biased, and producing it truely unbiased could in turn bring the producer in trouble.
However it is much stronger when the featured people freely state their oppinion and the producers agenda doesn't shine through.

The journalist's story was all about the family, actually. The mom's story was a dishonest setup. She wanted to portray the twins as perfect spokeswomen for white supremacy, when there was actually a lot more going on behind the scenes that she didn't want talked about. She was hiding information he merely felt obligated to expose, and he did a fabulous job. Furthermore, when the producer brakes an agreament with the the featured people to be unbiased, the viewers sympathy tends to be on the side of those who has been tricked. In this case it is more ambigious though because we have all lerned that the nazies are the bad guys, but it does render the documentarry

I understand that it is hard too be unbiased when doing a documentary on nazies. Some people expect such a documentary to be biased, and producing it truely unbiased could in turn bring the producer in trouble.
However it is much stronger when the featured people freely state their oppinion and the producers agenda doesn't shine through.

The journalist's story was all about the family, actually. The mom's story was a dishonest setup. She wanted to portray the twins as perfect spokeswomen for white supremacy, when there was actually a lot more going on behind the scenes that she didn't want talked about. She was hiding information he merely felt obligated to expose, and he did a fabulous job. Indoctrination of any kind is child abuse, whether it's into a religion or a nation or some philosophy. If you aren't teaching your children life skills and critical thinking, you've failed as a parent.
Legally, you are correct -- you can't lock up a parent for indoctrinating their children. If we did that then we would need to set an objective standard, which would be difficult if not impossible. Atheists would claim Christianity is child abuse and christians would claim atheism is (cont..)
