I am not certain, but as I recall the recipie was invented by a french cook in italy after the battle of Marengo, hence the name. It was made for Napoléon with what little food was available in the area to celebrate his victory over the austrians. So I am uncertain that makes it an italian dish >>
That intro sound is kind of disgusting though. It's funny that I saw this dish in a Japanese anime that takes place in Germany (called "Monster")
