Drew didn't sing for Zac because Zac can't sing, they would just fix his voice if that was the case. Zac's voice wasn't right for the songs. They wrote them before they cast him, Zac sang the beginning and end of StartOSNew and the start of Breaking Free. Drew sang everything else.

The reason he sang those lines is because he was singing them in a regular tone, after Vanessa sang the chorus was sung in a higher tone so you couldn't tell the difference. If Drew sang the opening lines you could tell easily so Zac had to sing them so his speaking voice would come through in the singing voice.
