  • What off brand model strobes are compatible with this flash in a wireles set up? I look to purchase 2 430ex II to go with the 580ex II, however I saw other brands of strobes not as expensive as the cannon's. Any imput would be appreciated!!!

  • so so useful, sick of tutorials telling us what aperture is and what the rule of thirds is. Something useful at last!!

  • wtf, why are people looking at his hat, lol

  • @jeffgobens your a fucking goofball. if your such a pro, do you own videos, hate people like you. think your smart but haven't got the balls to do anything except criticise other peoples work, get back to me when you've got your own videos.

  • Simple and precise explanation!

  • My flash is a Sigma EF-500 súper flash and My camera is Canon 2Ti

And My flash doen't work very low light. Maybe not compatible.

Please help me understand one set Up to do...

  • Very well done.

    You saved the day...

    Thanks for frank info....

  • possibly the only full informed tut on you tube, thank you gary.

  • Thanks, very helpful!

  • Great video!

just don't wear that hat again!

  • take the vaseline off the lens, this isnt a porno.

  • thx, that was really helpful

  • Thanks for the tutorial. I was one of those people who had my camera on the wrong setting. Thanks for the correction.

  • His hat is too small

  • @baucojm Funny

  • @baucojm Or his head is too big.

  • wrong! the settings you should learn to use is: Manual!

  • @ptlofts it is of little help just accusing someone of being "wrong"! He is obviously aiming the video at beginners, mastering manual flash is something they can concentrate on when they'd like to, in the studio I use manual all the time but outdoors and in nearly all other situations if you try using manual... you'll most likely miss the shot!!!

It is a myth that people NEED to learn manual to be any good, the whole point of ETTL is so people don't need to learn manual if they dont want to.

  • @simonsgl How the Pro's become Pro's? By making their way with Manual not only on flash settings but also camera and other photographic gear. ETTL its just a lazy way of saying:"Oh, lets do it the easy way." Anyway, as you might know, it doesnt get the 'job well done' all the time.

  • @ptlofts ur missing the point, you're assuming everyone who picks up a camera wants to go pro. I went semi-pro long before I really got into manual stuff! Like I said.... this video is obviously aimed at beginners. First learn how to:

    1. Get a photo out of the camera

    2. Compose

    3. Use light to the best effect

    4. Get a basic auto flash exposure

    5. Use exposure compensation

    6. Bounce flash and use fill flash and create catchlights etc

THEN when you've mastered all that... learn manual!

  • @simonsgl Being a Pro it's making better photos with the correct settings cuze if you want to make a certain photo and you dont know what to do to achieve that certain effect or whatever, you should know what you're doing, right? Thats my point.

  • @ptlofts ur indeed missing the point, I agree with all you say about the advantage of learning manual. My original post said it was unfair to say the video was "wrong" because it didn't meet your needs. You are looking way too far ahead of this videos intended audience and seem convinced everyone wants to become "PRO"!!!

Btw, "PRO" is used to describe someone who is able earn a living from his work, it is NOT a term awarded to someone who thinks he has reached a certain level of kowledge!!

  • @simonsgl You're right. I get it.

  • @ptlofts p.s. it's a bit like a few years ago when all the computer geeks insisted that everyone MUST learn visual basic if they want to be a REAL computer expert!

  • @simonsgl Ok. Its your way of seeing things and I respect that. I'm not saying that all the people MUST this or that. Im just saying that Auto not always do the correct thing and its always better to do it yourself, thats the way to achieve better results by experience and with time and practice youll know it instintavely. Thanks.

  • What about using the St-e2? Fords ttl still work?

  • Sometimes, I come back to this video just as a refresher, because it's the most useful, straightforward, basic information about how to use Canon flash systems.

  • thx for your video, it is very details. Can you also talk us thru about using the wide panel??

  • Excellent

  • Thanks for this. I was curious - I thought that E-TTL won't take lens focus distance in account if you have the lens in bounce mode?

    Rgds.

  • @kenwchan ETTL measures the amount of light coming back through the lens. Therefore, it will work with a bounce flash.

  • You may also like to set your ISO at around 800. Even then you will find most flash units giving full dumps in order to put out enough light when using the LS. That said, if you are shooting wide open or want to drag the shutter for effect then the LS can give results that are almost as good as you could get in the studio.

  • @PANOTONE There are a lot of cameras out there I wouldn't use ISO 800 unless my life depended on it.

  • I just learned a lot. Love it

  • Great vid. I just bought my first ex. Flash. Can't wait for it to come in the mail!
