Love it. People don't quite seem to understand that this movie is meant to be Brokeback Mountain for atheists. Of course it carries a slap at religion with it, it has to. Gavin's relationship with Shana, was completely understandable. Her marriage to Joe, was nothing more than "Stockholm Syndrome". She found Gavin, and fell in love with him. Joe got jealous, and used The Bible, (and his clearly extremist views to justify his actions.) Yes, the film is a cut-out description, but it is accurate for quite a few people. There are extremists in all walks, Gavin's atheism became secondary to his love for Shana. Joe's religious devotion and bigotry was his downfall.
I was supportive of Gavin and Shana's relationship since the beginning. Gavin was not an a*hole, if anything, Joe was. When Shana asked him "What about my education?" He told her "When god calls, we need to listen." He was the type of husband that was ideal for traditional gender roles in the 1950's, that bs concept of "Men work, and are the voice and leader of the home, women are homemakers and subservient. He was so ridiculously clingy and jealous.

Its was very Politically correct, it had gays, sex, lust, and a hate for them who have faith in God. But not all faiths just one. A Daddy in the sky really! What people are criticizing is the extent to which the script went to put the religious guy as an over the top self-reghtous stereotyped fanatic and the atheist guy as a faulty humane martyr. Think: A plot where a man falls in love with a woman and is made to jump off a building by her jealous husband would probably go by with no objetions. It would be interesting and thrilling, like a thriller ought to be.

Sometimes I wonder if people see beyond their noses. the movie didn't just make Christians look bad. it also showed the atheist in a bad light. he was an asshole, he wanted to take the guy's wife away from him And he also was stupid enough,despite claiming to be rational,to go along with the suicide plan handed out to him instead of contacting the authorities. and at the end of the day the christian could have chosen a better way to deal with this. don't be fucking idiots,think.

Right now im studying buddhism, which really isnt a religion in my opinion but a lifestyle and a philosophy.
