  • Very helpful indeed - thnx

  • I have a 95 saturn, and just recently, when I am driving along and I slow down to make a turn when I go to increase my speed after going threw the turn, it seems to take a long time to shift. it has done this 3 different times in a 3 month period, could this be a solenoid problem? it is a 95 Saturn sc 2 with automatic transmission, it has about 171,600 miles on it now

  • @Iseekoutthetruth

When was the last filter & fluid change?

Your at about the right mileage for a valve body rebuild :(

Are you the original owner? The transmission may have a lot of wear and tear on it, so to speak.Have you tested the solenoids? what are the readings?

Take readings while completely cold & while hot. Record the readings & let me know what they are please.

  • @FiremanCV I am the second owner, I am going to change the filter this weekend and fluid. how do you test the solenoids. do Ihave to take it aprt to do that? if I have to take it apart should'nt i change it than? how do I check it when it is hot, is there a area to do this with out having to take it apart?

  • @Iseekoutthetruth He has another video showing how to do it without the valve body apart. do what I did and take his info on that video and just remove the plug and test them still in the vehicle. its between the battery and master cylinder. there's enough space to do it and its a lot less work. cause I have a similar story as yours shifting hard at times and mine mainly slams in reverse. a code was throwing for solenoids and it wasn't even the problem.

  • @Iseekoutthetruth also test them cold and when the engines good and warm cause they can be fine cold but warm one or more can throw more than a ohm difference...

for instance mine read the other day (3rd) 5.2 cold 6.0 hot (4th) 5.3 cold 6.1 hot (TCC) 5.3 cold 6.2 hot (line) 5.5 cold 6.2 hot (2nd) 5.4 cold 6.2 hot. I just got mine it's at 167K miles and all the fluids were horribly over due. So part of your problem is what @FiremanCV said cause a transmission flush helped me tremendously. $140

  • hi i have a 2001 saturn sl2 and it doesnt seem to shift until u hit certain speeds and if u let off the throttle all the way after hittin 35.. i am only getting 25mpg max and i believe it is cuz it doesnt shift into the lowest gear possible. could a soleniod be causing this. i have tested them in the car and they seemed ok. please help.

  • @brittani209

Test at different temperatures. cold & hot, not just one temperature :)

when was the last time a fluid change and filter was done ?

  • Excellent instructions - both on removal of valve body and diagnosing failed solenoid. My 2002 SL1 was reverse slamming then began to bang shift from 1-2 and 2-3. Removed valve body - disassembled - bench tested - line pressure solenoid out of spec. Paid $68 for an OEM solenoid replaced - buttoned up the valve body and re - installed. VIOLA - shifts like a champ and smooooth reverse now. Thanks for all the info!!

  • @a12jgs

Glad everything worked for you :)

  • @FiremanCV u told me before that the valve body for this car is the same for my 98 sl1, so the gear order is the same, but which solanoid is the drive(D) solanoid? is it 2nd gear?

  • @omarG19100

Drive is not a gear my friend :)

  • Hello, i was hoping that you might help me with an issue i have on my saturn, the problem is that i have a 2000 saturn sl2 automatic with 130k miles on it and everytime i shift into reverse it slams and sometimes the slam is so hard that it turns off. this only happens with the reverse not any other gears so i was hoping that maybe you have a solution to this problem

  • @dsuaste23

    check out saturnfansdotcom

look up reverse slam cure by wolfman.

Let me know how you make out.

  • @FiremanCV i already have, but i i cant find the actual post, i sent him a private message and he told me to just look around, im trying to fix this problem before its too late and i loose the car or something, do you think maybe you can help me out?

  • @luisilloz1

Is your service engine light coming on at all ?

When is the last time you changed your filter & fluid ?

Also, give me engine & transmission size as well as year please.

I will look into this for you..

It may be a solenoid problem, I will find out when you get back to me.

  • @FiremanCV i change the oil and filter the first week it started doin' this it did'nt work its a nissan altima 00 4 cil service engine light is on thank you bro

  • @luisilloz1

  • @luisilloz1

Almost forgot, is the fluid level ok as well ?

  • Glad it helped you :)

If ya need anything else, let me know :)

  • @FiremanCV I have a 1995 SL1 would my valve body be the same as a 1997?

  • @TOPOFFMAN

    Yes, the same valve body..

  • @FiremanCV I took my car to a Ammco shop. They checked it out and told me that computer was not communicating. They think I have an electrical problem. Would that cause the valve body to not work properly? They said that it was in fail safe mode. BTW, my check engine illuminated at the same time that my transmission problem started. Has only 51,000 miles on it.

  • @FiremanCV Also, I heard a slight whining sound, when making left turns for a couple of weeks before the transmission quit.

  • @FiremanCV Update. My computer was bad. Had new one installed. As it turns out, the new one was defective. Now they installed another cpm. I am picking up the car in the morning. They said every thing works great, and my check engine light turned off and my fan works again. I hope the valve body wasn't damaged. Or the transmission. also they said no more tranny whining with the new cpm. Pressures are back to normal. Would higher pressures cause a transmission whine? Especially on left turns?

  • @TOPOFFMAN

Transmission will wine if low on transmission fluid before it starts to slip.

If your hearing a whine only on turns, then it's power steering pump..

Check the power steering fluid level..

  • @FiremanCV I got my 95' SL1 from the Ammco shop on Friday. New cpm was installed, and everything is working great! No transmission damage as far as I can tell. Smooth shifting through all the gears, and no more whining sound, and improved performance and increased fuel economy. Thanks for the reply.

  • I watched this video & saw how simple it was to fix my transmission. Wish I would have watched you other video showing where the heck the valvebody was in this weird engine. It belongs under the car not on top. Once I figured out where it was I had no problems. Thank you so much for posting this video, it saved me tons of money.

  • i appreciate the video-super cool-i can do this! My 2000 sl bangs into reverse and i do not understand which solenoid is reverse--please help--and thanks you are going to save me a fortune

  • @ironworker1721

Go to saturn fans & look up reverse slam cure..

You'll be up and running in no time..

Get the numbers off the transmission for me if you can, I'll let you know which one it is :)

I take it your transmission fluid is new & filter changed??

Check out saturn fans dot com, they help alot !

  • Haven't tested anything yet. Mine is on a Dirt Track Race Car and the car was rolled a few weeks ago. Since then after all other repairs, the trans has no torque in forward gears like it is starting out in 3rd or 4th. Reverse has plenty though. I have posed on a few forums, but no answers yet. How do go about testing the valve body by the way?

  • @AMABERRY1975

Do you mean test valve body? or test valve body solenoid ?

If you look at my other video, you will see how to test valve body in vehicle :)

Keep in mind, I have it removed to show how to test in the vehicle..

If I tested in vehicle, it would have been too dark for me to film, lol

  • What were the symptons of this tranny? I have one with no low gears and was thinking a bad solenoid.

  • @AMABERRY1975

This transmission was missing 3 gears all at once, sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't. when I tested & replaced solenoids, ran great afterwards..
