  • Only Dulcify's Cox plate and Kingston Towns Triple come anywhere near this. I just wish the Europeans would recognise how great this race is. For sheer drama on a saucer track, it just doesn't get any better.

  • I was standing on the hill watching the great mare round them up on the bend i backed rough habit who got smashed when pallace reign fell,as i remember naturelisam was odds on and the bookies were offering 50's for the 8 year old Super,so as i remember the crowd werent going off with Supers last stride win, just trying to keep it real very few are happy when a 50 to 1 wins!

  • Wish I was 'Of Age' to enjoy this race but only discovered the Joy of the GG's a few years ago... seen lots of racing since then, including So You Thinks two wins live at the track. The Cox Plate in my opinion is the greatest race in Australia. The Melbourne Cup is a great day for racing for the non-regulars to get to, but for the racing purist this is the one to see!

  • I was there that day and I'll never forget the roar of the crowd. I think everyone was going for Super despite half a dozen other champions being in the race.

  • Everything about this race is perfect - the field, the call, the finish - everything.

I still get shivers watching it the hundredth time over.

  • I saw this race at the track. Super was a super horse ~ all astute judges would have to admit (I guess) that he won it by "default" I certainly thought so at the time& I don't alter my opinion. Was a schemozzle of a race.

  • How many unlucky runners? Palace Reign bolting when it went down, Coronation Day under double wraps the whole way down the straight looking for runs, BLU getting chopped out, Naturalism going down, Rough Habit getting checked out of it with Sydeston and STILL they went to the line as a bunch.

  • Undoubtedly the best Cox Plate field ever assembled. Thirteen of the 14 runners were Group One winners, and they won an astonishing 60 Group One between them, including the Melbourne Cup, the Japan Cup, two Cox Plates, three Caulfield Cups, two Doncasters, three Epsoms, two Stradbrokes, three Doomben Cups, two Australian Cups, three Oaks races, and two Derbies.

  • @cl0ngrf3 Pretty much sums it up. They talk about the '65 Arc field (Sea Bird II) being the best ever assembled. There was nowhere near the depth though of this field. Any of the horses in this field would have been competitive against any company, anywhere in the world.... even on the goat tracks they race on in the states ;)

  • The very best Field Ever assembled. Just about all those runners were champions in their own right!

  • The best Cox Plate I can remember such champion horses and the ride of Michael Clarke on Better Loosen up cost the champ the win. What a brilliant race and a greta call by BM

  • @Rohboats Simon Marshall was on BLO that day. In the documentary Super Better best, Marshall described how he didn't want to go back into the mounting yard because he cost BLO the race.

  • i had 250 on super impose he paid $21 the win i colleted $5250. o what a day that was i was 18 that year and 5250 bucks was a lot bak then. well buy next saturday i had $000000000000 left

  • 1990 Cox Plate when BLU donkey licked them was the greatest Cox Plate ever by a long way. Have alook at the fields if you ever get the chance. Plus if Lets Elope had not knocked him down with 50m to go Blu would have won. I think super paid $20+ on NSW Tab as I had 50 on him and he got me a free trip to the Gold Coast LOL

  • The 1992 CP field was the best ever assembled. And Naturalism would have won the race if he not fallen... and if he had got a run... BLU, SI, Let's Elope, Rough Habit, Sydeston.... etc. What a race. ps. I was on Naturalism for 5 figures ;)

  • Agree with precious comments, I've never seen a better field gathered together in one race. None of this year's Melbourne Cup field would've made it into this!

Crazy race this, who knows what the hell would've happened without all the drama, but gee old Super had to have the world's biggest heart to win this.

  • Yep... best field of thoroughbreds ever assembled ... anywhere...

  • I had $20 on Super Impose to win, it's a long tiome ago but i think he was paying something like 16-1, i'll stand corrected but all i know is i went beserk when he got up to win, what a champion he was.

  • This is without a doubt the best race ever!! It had one of the best fields ever assembled, and it had all the drama a race needs!! The fall 650m out and then as the hit the turn the roar of the crowd was electrifying....... Super was amazing!!

  • @Tam77775 how true the best field ever!!!!!!!!

  • @Tam77775 beast race ever!

  • If you watch closely 150m to go, Greg HALL nearly cuts poor old Super in half with the whip.......What a champ!. Sometimes forgotten after, Sunline, Octagonal and The Diva came along but is every bit deserving to be in that groups company.

  • Great race. Best racing field ever assembled in Australia

  • Great win from a legend of the turf. I backed Let's Elope after winning with her all four in a row the previous spring, but if you watch close she lays in on another legend of the turf Better Loosen Up, who was back after serious injury & was just going to pip Super for the win. The protest against Let's Elope was upheld so the stewards thought so also. What a Super race it was.

  • @scans226 Not the only time she caused reasonable interference either, was she prone to running erratically, or was it the riding?

  • i get the goose pimple when the caller shout super. amazing racehorse winning races at top weight. they should clone the horse

  • yeah brilliant. best race in the world, cant beat the cox plate for bringing the best of the present and the best of the future together. SUPER-B

  • memory - in every OZ racing fans!

  • wow thats one of the best races ive ever seen, ive seen super impose win some but wow

  • I was on Let's Elope that day...the roar of the crowd when she hit the front wide on the turn was deafening!!

  • yeah yr right - i was at a tab watching it or at home.

  • i was there that day. Did my nuts on Naturalism, but Super was one of my fav horses and the feeling in the crowd after he'd won was unbelievable. What a race, possibly the best field ever, certainly that I can remember....
