  • this is the mercedes benz version no one matches this duo on this lovely song.

  • This nostalgic melody makes me smile. It also convinces me that good songs never lose their beauty no matter how old they are. Mary Ford was as amazing as her partner Les Paul.

I truly miss them; their legend will keep glittering.

    Thanks for this clip.

  • Mary Ford was at her prime when she did this, what a woman, what a voice.

  • My father's mother used to sing this to my little sister, when we were very little. It's one of the few things I remember about her. She called my little sister her little "sweat pea" and sang that song to her.

  • Absolutely love this. Thank you for posting. I'm going to wear this out listening to it.

  • Great listening! Cheers all the way from Sri Lanka !!!

  • I had no Idea this was a Country Song

    Great Song

    Thank you

  • the best version by a hundred miles

  • Mary's sweet voice and Les Paul's splendid technique as a guitarist are a very good combination to mesmerize a great number of listeners. Thanks for posting this clip.

  • When I first arrived in America from Scotland in 1960 I was 14. The family

I lived with played this and I memorized

it and sang or hummed it whereever I

went. It was so special from all of the music I grew up with in Scotland, and

    it still is very special.

  • Wow Mary sure could sing

  • Brings back early childhood memories. When I 6/7 years old I played this crudely on the our old John Broadwood much to the delight of my family and friends. Thereafter formal piano lessons shortly ensued.

  • memories come flooding back

  • My grandma use to sing this song... memories. makes me cry. thanks for the memory

  • Memories, memories, don't know how much you miss them until they are gone.

  • We sang these songs in the car on our way to Boston every summer. Dad driving the Pontiac, Mom and he and the kids singing along. No video games, no a/c, just singing for 450 miles. WOW!

  • Thanks for the beautiful sharing.

I remember being a little, tiny girl in the early 1950s and being able to hear the words in most of the really, really OLD music and singing along with my siblings...like this little musical gem.

I enjoy a variety of music, but I always smile when I hear songs like this that don't get played on the radio anymore...or at least not where I live.

  • That is the America of today vs OUR America! Today people who like music like this are a minority. Now, it's all that jungle jive rap crap!

  • God Bless more AND Les!

    OMG! LP-RIP!

In ALL seriousness Lester you were the Thomas Edison of modern music and a GREAT Humanitarian. I will always cherish your guitars and thoughts of you and my Mom's 78's of you and Mary Ford (1977) RIP the ROK

  • What happy memories!!!!!! This song was an integral part of my childhood. Thank you for everything you did for music. You will be truly missed. RIP Les Paul.

  • RIP Les. What a great duo you and Mary were. I remember all your hits from the 1950s.

  • Sure wish we all could live on Mockingbird Hill...

  • My dad used to play this 78 to us when we were kids in the 50's loved it then but still love it even though it brings tears to my eyes thinking of the old man

  • When I was a child my mom would rock me (and encourage me to sing along with her) and this song along with "My Happiness" and "A-You're Adorable" were my favorites.

    Thanks fo posting this.

  • different this version of the some-but also very nice, greetings

  • Arrived in Fla. in Oct. '50, fm Upper Darby, PA. Age 11. First Fla. crush. Melisse was her name. Didn't notice her 'til I dreamed about her (No, not that kind!). It was as if she were standing close to me and we were talking about something. I was locked in. This song often seemed to be in the background, then.

  • Usually the first person to develop a new technique can only take it so far, and it's up to others to really develop it. That doesn't seem to be the case with Les Paul. Not only did he invent electric guitar, overdubbing, and vari-speed recording, but the music he created with them STILL sounds innovative!

  • This one takes me back to Viet Nam, anytime there was trouble or a close call, I had this song goping thru my head,

  • In the summer of 1950 in Keokuk, Iowa at the ages of 5 and 6 I had rheumatic fever and was confined to a bed for six weeks. I listened to this song often during that time. Recently I found it here and have taken a trip back to that summer all three times I have listened to it. Thank you for making it available. Ron Meyers, missionary in Africa (now 64 years old)
