I hadn't listened to Rickie Lee Jones in many years, and now that I've listened to a few songs on YouTube, I find that they had been seared into my memory.
One of my favourite songs ever, one of my favourite movies ever - not quite sure they go together, though, given that the song is not even remotely a romantic fairytale, bittersweet as it may be. Still, thank you for making and posting this, I have waited ages for it to appear on YouTube! :-)
Apparently, the song is based on a true story about a man who, in a case of mistaken identity, was shot and killed by police whilst taking his wife to the hospital to give birth.
@martintaylorpiano My sister's boyfriend was murdered by the police when he was 27 years old in the exact circumstances. She wasnt pregnant, but the rest of the tragic story is true. (and yes, the policeman got away with it, as usual.) This song haunts my sister. It is so beautiful and soulful, RLJ. (No the song is not about her, just to clear...I wonder how many people have been devastated under similar circumstances?)
