  • This is one of my favorite songs

  • needed to smile thx

  • love this song...so sad she knew she was getting close to the end...she didnt move her arm because it was painful and a lot of times swollen

  • Why didnt she move her arm?! :O

  • @aliciasweatt because the cancer had by this time advanced into her lymph nodes, which rendered her arm immovable.

  • Song is so powerful. She already knew she was leaving the world so this was her goodbye to her family and to us, the fans. Just beautiful...

  • THIS IS THE SONG!!! MAN SHE HAD SOME PIPES ON HER!!!!

  • THIS IS THE SONG!!!

  • - Minnie Riperton covered Loving You .

  • What a great lost when she pass but the music lives on

  • It seems like she knew she was going to die god bless her

  • Classic..She was battling breast cancer during this performance which is why her right arm is crippled...RIP..Lovely voice and timeless music!!!

  • Such a beautiful voice...such a beautiful person...she left us far too soon.

  • the video cut to short ive seen this before

  • I heard that Phyllis Hyman was a fan of Minnie's voice even though she didnt particularly like the soprano voice...I love her voice. it's so beautiful!

  • LUVMESUMHER !!!

  • Voice of an angel, she is one of the greatest but she is too under rated. I can listent o her entire greatest hits record through and through!

  • I miss ya

  • I LOVE hearing MINNIE sing this song....She sings it from the heart......She knew what was before her and was so brave, courageous and passionate about living her life to the fullest...Thanks Minnie !!!!!

  • I saw the Unsung show last night She and her husband had a true love story. She died in his arms...I could tell he still loves her.

  • This was taped in 1979 the same year she passed. If you notice she cannot move her right arm. According to her (Unsung) story on TVOne it was said that the tumor had spread to her arm causing her pain. Minnie is the offical vocal songbird. No one can ever sound like her. I've been loving her music since 1974.

  • 2:05 u see her little face,...when she started to groove hahaha... love it~!

  • 1:52 was awsome

  • she's got the pretties voice i've ever heard in my life....omg

  • aqreed <3

  • Wow...I didn't know she was in a bi-racial relationship. The photos with that guy. I'm guessing that's her husband or partner.

  • It is her husband Richard(Dick) Rudolph

  • Maya Rudolph of Saturday Night Live is their daughter

  • i'm 19 and i love this song.

  • Minnie-the original songbird! I will always love her. "Alone in Brewster Bay" and "Don't Let Anyone Bring You Down" help me survive during some turbulent times. Her voice and songs always gave me hope.

  • yeah mariah gets on my nevres trying to sound like minnie

  • mariah's whistle range is forced while minnies came natural..next time u see mariah do it watch how she flail her arms and hand around gettin it out..but she did pay dues.

  • Simply the best!!!!!! mariah carey is a very distant second as far as range goes

  • I know thats right, phyllis hyman also has mc beat

  • As a matter of fact on this video her arm was almost completely paralyzed, and that is why it's in a fixed position.

  • Old schoolers, I hate to sound argumentive, but this WAS in fact lip-synched. But don't take that as being disrespectful. I LOVE Minnie Ripperton, and that is in no way to knock her at all. Some performances were lip-synched though, and there was probably a good reason for it. The reason is because the studio recording and this one can't sound EXACTLY the same and it be live. Live will ALWAYS sound a bit different.

Again, not a knock on her. A LOVELY woman with a BEAUTIFUL VOICE.

  • I heard that this in this song she was talking about her dying of cancer, is this true? I think that it is because she's singing

    "save me" in the lyrics.

  • I actually thought I was the only one that thought that. No, actually she's talking about losing a past love. (I just found that out a few minutes ago). "I see you standing there, such a happy happy pair..." and other lines like that. But a lot of other lines sound very much like she's singing about the dying of cancer. You're very right about that.

There is a video she did of this song here on youtube as well. Have you seen it yet?

  • I saw the video, It was great!!!!!!!!!

  • I LUV MINNIE! THE BEST!

  • Minnie, is such an inspiration. You don't find this kind of artistry nowadays in the industry.

  • Absolutely not, you're right about that. I listen to mostly songs from this time period now. Today's is just not the same at all. So much is just missing.

  • she was such a beautiful woman.

  • 1:50 is so CLASSIC. love IT. thankyu for POSTING

  • just wondering how randy crawford would sing this song. no one sings like minnie !!!! no one !

  • This is footage that Soul Train used for her final tribute. The tribute was firsted aired in February of 1980. She probably did this the first part of 1979. I am confused because I read where she was bedridden in June of 1979. But I also read where she performed in July of 1979.

  • MMEMMORRY--I had that same question about the dates, but I think what I saw said her performance "aired" in July '79, so I am assuming that she "taped" it before June.

  • I sure do smile every time I listen to her amazing vocals...

  • this was lip-synched right?

  • the great minnie riperton didnt lip sync.this was live as all of our music was in those days.RIP Minnie we love you, what an angel she was........

  • Lyp-synching was rare in those days.

  • Yes, this was. It's not a knock on the singers themselves, but sometimes they did lip-synch during certain performances for whatever reason.

Old schoolers don't like hearing people say that, but again, it's not a knock on them. There was probably a good reason for doing so. But the way you can tell is to listen to the studio recording (tape, CD, etc) and if the live performance sounds EXACTLY like in the studio, it's lip-synched. The live performance will ALWAYS sound a little different.

  • anyone know what date this was?

  • Dont quite know the exact date, but it was definitely the year she died(1979)during promotions of her final album...The way I can tell is because during her final days she was unable to move her right arm which was at this point paralyzed...This album was released on May 9th 1979 and she died 2 months after its release!

  • I Love Minnie.

  • thx u so much for this

  • What a beautiful video!
