  • You got it wrong. The book of judges is not about opression or inner political structure, it's about not folloing JHWE. It's the circle of the Israelites praying to other gods, getting punished with forign reign and freed by the "judges" and praying to other gods after those leaders die again. This circle is later broken by David, which is the whole point of the judges-book, to point out what happenes if you do not obey the laws of JHWH in contrast to the "golden age" of David and Salomo.

  • Yikes! That was some real mental gymnastics to come up with that. I wish you had actually said the words(because it must be what you mean to imply): "...so that's why it makes sense for Yahweh to accept Jephthah killing his daughter to please His Mercifulness."

You make it sound like God wrote his book in the form of some elaborate and cryptic puzzle for us to decipher the TRUE meaning of... rather than SAY WHAT HE MEANS! Worse than that, the Jephthah story is the exact OPPOSITE of your claim.

  • @WillDeStijl Thanks for this. I respectfully disagree. Bible was written by different people trying to understand God in relation to their experience. Not a cryptic puzzle, but it demands interpretation. The human experience is often violent and weoften justify our violence in the name of God. Judges doesn't ignore our violence and the ways we justify it. Rather, it puts our violence before us and, if we read to the end, we see the horrific civil war and destruction that results. It's a warning.

  • @raventelevision Wow. Go reread the Jephthah story. It is a perfect description of my video. Jephthah's brother's violently unite against him. That cycle continues as Jephthah becomes the leader of Gilead, who unites against a common enemy-the Ammonites. God never says that if Jephthah sacrifices someone God will ensure their victory. Rather, Jephthah projects that onto God. It never says: Yahweh accepted Jephthah's killing his daughter.. This story is a warning that violence is uncontrollable.

  • Too much caffeine?

jk This is a great video, I will watch more!

  • @SlaughterMeister Haha!!! I'm trying to cut back.

    I appreciate the feedback.

    Peace,

    Adam

  • be sure not to put the past in the same context as the present. Things were very different. Really the jews slaves? i dont think so. Not in the modern sense. Maybe slaves in a spiritual sense, bound by sacremont...like noah. better not speak the truth..sacremount.
