If you consider that Leonardo was a fairly good painter and he wanted to show his model was covered in gauze you would be able to see it with the naked eye. To me it looks like an overpainting taking some of the bulk out of the model, which would make her more in proportion to her hands.

If you consider that Leonardo was a fairly good painter and he wanted to show his model was covered in gauze you would be able to see it with the naked eye. To me it looks like an overpainting taking some of the bulk out of the model, which would make her more in proportion to her hands.

Honestly, this is rather pointless. some scholars dedicate their lives to this painting and governments spend millions maintaining and protecting it. and for what? who cares if she's pregnant? some day, we'll figure out who she is and then no one will care anymore. its not like learning her name will improve science or help people. you cant even argue that it is an amazing painting. compared to others, its rather unremarkable.
i don't mean to offend anyone; this is just my opinion.
