  • Beautiful, emotive, touches the heart.

  • Powerful. I'm glad to find this. So little is known of fado outside Portugal. This is as moving as blues or other forms of soulful musical styles. I wonder how much influence fado had in other countries, particularly the former colonies. If they do exist, they have blended and morphed so well, there seem to be no remaining evidence of it. Puzzling...

  • @lapwiz let's cherish this secret, and keep it close to the portuguese seas... in my opinion bossanova and samba is very close to this (tom jobim, joao gilberto...) - another secret to love and to hold!

  • That was so beautiful, it was unbelievable! Thanks from a a Spaniard.

  • Keep this in your head while you are riding your Andalusian horse. Perfect.

  • @janeinthemtns Nothing to do with Andalusia, we do Flamenco, Portuguese do Fado! And it is this beautiful!

  • It's always nice to see a lady in the kitchen (b.t.w. what a wonderful voice!)

  • AI MARIA QUE EU NAO ME AGUENTO MAIS!!!!

  • @MrBitiniku uneducated fag.

  • @nik78757 quite a juxtaposition of words to contemplate -- uneducated fag. read it back to yourself a few times and think about how the two words resonate.

  • @djcoronel how about educated fag?

  • @MrBitiniku what's your problem, american? Need to insult others to feel patriotic as usual?

  • @MrBitiniku you got owned! haha

  • Beautifully sung!

  • Super fantastic. Never heard of fado - it is always 3/4 time signature?

  • @99djc88 No and, um, neither is this one. It's 2/4.

  • so moving ~ so touching ~ love it!

  • ALMEIRIM

  • beautiful.....it touched me like as it was in my language,(greek).music is stronger than boarders,languages..is a worlds common code

  • @marthazo

  • @marthazo I'm from Greece too and you couldn't have said it better.. I love fado and this is beautiful

  • @marthazo huh??? its in Portuguese, obviously!!!! Fado is Portuguese!

  • @alexandre2225 He didn't say the song was in Greek.

Stated it touched him like it was in Greek.

  • Es hermoso, me conmueve..

  • thanks so much!!

i love her tune and fad!!!

  • Harts beat in chests, not breasts. (Translation!!)

Great performance. Cristina Branco is simply fabulous.

  • @JKuaresma It says breast not breasts. In English breast in this context is just a more poetic emotional way of saying chest (where the heart beats), it doesn't have gender the male and female breast are the same. Its got nothing to do with womens breasts.

  • @JohnAndrewHall1 I didn't know that form. Thank you for your explanation. :)

  • what's the song's name? This is very beautiful.

  • @HolyPessimist

    its ''Gaivota''

  • a Minha Casa

  • a Minha Casa

  • Great footage... but rather bad translation... sorry.

  • can u tell me where is good translation... i really adore this song...

  • bad as in it doesn't capture the poetry or bad as in it doesn't convey the literal sense of the words?

  • It doesn't capture the poetry... the translation is too literal... having said that, i wont volunteer for the job of translating it... difficult poem.

。obrigado

  • <3 Fado the Portugese Blues

  • Oh my goodness, she's an angel! I love her! Amalia, Dulce & Mariza, move over!

    Mariza: Meu Fado Meu

    Sérgio Nunes- Lenda da Fonte

Amalia Rodrigues - Povo que lavas no rio

Amália Rodrigues - tudo isto é fado

  • grande el fado e forte anche lei

  • Thanks man. I miss my ccountry so much!

  • So simple so deep and so touching

  • Mesmo Lindo . I like the part 'where she comes in' from the kitchen ........ Is this real or what!!!!!! @Love

  • tao triste mais tao bonito

  • cristina, vuoi sposarmi??

  • magneficent song and wonderful voice. It is a real Fado and I adore it.

  • one of the best fados ever!!! who is cristina, the wonderful lady with a voice of a goddess? I cried all the time while she sang. thank you cristina, for this spectacular performance!

  • I do wish she would record more fado. She does have one of the best voices (if a little cold), and here she shows just how well she can sing fado standards. Her version of Fria Claridade is my favourite. Sadly, too many fadistas (such as the wonderful Misia) are moving away from fado to other forms.

  • Lindo!

  • I wish there were more Fado videos like this with English subtitles. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • lindo.

  • Just wonderful. The best version of Gaivota i've ever heard. Just to beautiful to bear without bursting into tears!

  • @ShangoOrisha True! I have cried with many tears of happiness with Fado in my ears straight to my Heart

  • Meu Deus que lindo!!!

    Obrigado Portugal!!

    Abraco do Brasil!

  • Thank you for posting this. Unfortunately we Portuguese have the poor habit of negleting our treasures...

Sweet voice, awesome guitar playing as well, made me cry...

  • Cristina, sempre a surpreender. Obrigado Cristina!

  • Beauiful voice and haunting song. We saw the Fado in Lisbon and it was wonderful.

  • Là, on peut se taire.

  • e os caezinhos xp! :D mmo fofos.

  • Superb moment of exceptionnal grace. Does that Film Cristina Branco - A Minha Casa exists on dvd form ?

Regardless of the fact that I'm a fan of Crisitna Branco eversince her first album (thanks to the Dutch!!!), I think she is at her best when Custódio Castelo is on guitar. They both inspiring each other amazingly.

  • i can't discribe how beautiful this video is

  • I LOVE fado and this performance is amazing! thank to Pieter for sending me this video. Many greetengs to all of you loving this kind of music too....Natali.

  • its really poetry VIE along(k) thank you Slauerhoff

  • What a gorgeous video! I really hope I'll be able to find this on dvd, somehow. THIS is one of the greatest uses of YouTube, to share beauty like this with so many of us, for whom these are new discoveries! Thank you so very much!

  • Yes, this was so lovely. I thank you for sharing. I know portuguese and so the english lyrics were a bit bothersome as they only attempt to grasp the delicate nuances of what she is singing.

    I do appreciate the treasure!

She is truly portuguese, not brazilian

and I am unfamiliar with the portuguese,

though I do know the fado.

Thanks so much. This is why I grow to love you more all the time, my friend!

  • The song performed here is Gaivota [Seagull] on the album "Ulisses" from 2005. Each and every track is a heart-tugging work of beauty. Her cover of "Case of You" is a wonder, excelling Diana Krall's by sheer virtue of its true replication of style, and having just listened to Joni's a moment ago,Cristina's is to my ear more pleasing.Having been born in 1960, I've loved Joni's work all my life it seems, yet Cristina's voice in all the work I've become familiar with is an instrument of the Gods.

  • Having been a joni fan most of my life and as a singer/songwriter guitarist, I have been most influenced by her... I would LOVE to hear Cristina perform one of my favorite Joni tunes. Do you know where it can be heard online? Obrigada

  • I love her voice.. ;)

  • wooooooooow, where can I get this documentary? I need to see it, I love Cristina Branco!

  • This rules!
