Do you have to keep them in pairs or small groups? I would only like to keep one (I like to keep track of names and stuff) so what's the smallest tank I could buy for ti?
@CherubHorse You don't have to keep them in groups or pairs, but you can if you want too with these guys. Amphibians are generally solitary animals (some exceptions) but you should never put a really small one (juvenile) and a really big one (adult) together as the adult might cannibalize or hurt the smaller one. For one newt (or two), a ten gallon tank would be the smallest I'd go with. I highly recommend researching any animal you intend to buy.
did you get this from the pet store? because the ones i bought from the pet store recently all died. and i did my research on how to take care of them and all, so it wasn't my fault in case you were wondering
I have a Question. today i went out and bought to young newts to the pet store. Cass is about 4inches long And Koda is about 5Inches long, will the grow any bigger?
I have 2 but they hate water. They are always out of the water, and when they get there they ran away emediatly... I don´t know if it is the temperature, but I think it´s fine... they are eating well, in fact the only 2 minuts, or so, they are in water for all the day is when I give them food...
I'm making a terrarium with 2-3 newts including a land area and a deep water area as seen here. Would you recommend buying a reptile or fish tank, and an acrylic or glass tank. Also, I would like to include several plants in my setup, would you recommend live or plastic plants?
i have one (i think) is there any way to verify it is a firebelly newt? it is the same size as yours, has a firebelly, BUT... it doesnt have those bumps all over it. if it isnt a firebelly newt what is it?
Cool vid check out my mega mixed amphibian tank vid

How deep should the water be for juvenile Chinese fire belly newts?
He's only about 1.5 inches long, help would be appreciated!
Zacattackzak 2 years ago
@Zacattackzak mine is about 6 in, just enough for them to reach the top for air quickly while still having swimming space

Newts get along with plecos right?
If I find a newt, I don't want to have it eaten becuase the turtle got pissed off at it for bugging pleco.

do you have a specific temperature for the fire belly newt because i have the same one
gringo100805 3 years ago
They should be kept at room temperature, not heated like tropical fish. 15-20 degrees C is fine.
MoemYouT 3 years ago
@MoemYouT Can you house them with goldfish other coldwater fish and also how often do you need to clean them out?
StandhardVids 2 months ago
Fire bellied newts prefer cooler temperatures of around 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit. Try to keep it just slightly under room temperature in your setup.
freerunninfrog13 2 years ago
kool newt, but i would suggest you put a rock a a piece of slate in front of the pouring water as fire belly newts do not live in fast streams
xunicornx3 3 years ago
Thanks, but there is no pouring water in this setup.
MoemYouT 3 years ago
@MoemYouT but there is a stream in the background that can stress the newt what is not healthy ;)
