Really? That's odd that Keane didn't want it distributed. Funny then that it ended up on Little Broken Words.

I don't think it represents war as being positive, but as a sort of satire on war and the happy soldier who is blindly patriotic and willing to fight in wars, to kill and be killed for a country's glory. It has quiet some room to interpret. And I don't see it out of character for Keane, really.

And there are a lot of non-album songs. Keane has enough B sides for at least 2 full albums.

I previously thought this song was completely anti-war, and I was surprised to read that some people think it's a pro-war song.

I think the song talks about the dehumanization of soldiers. The speaker is fine with being lost at sea and stuck on a desert island. He relies on SAS and GHQ at two separate occasions in the song. This doesn't sound like someone who is himself.

The song is sung with a flat, emotionless tone, implying that the soldier has lost emotion and individuality.

I don't know why some people seem to think this song is pro war, it's definitely anti war! It starts with the naive soldier being bored and wanting to go to war, he believes his country will do anything for him. Then in the end. the song breaks up in sounds representing a battle and you even hear "rescue me" in the background a few times, then there's silence. Not a happy ending!

The way I hear this song is that it's against war. The lyrics are used to show how bad war is from a different point of view.

They don't release this song because people aren't smart enough to hear it this way. They would be viewed in the wrong context and lose simple-minded fans for it.
