Have you noticed how many student films start with somebody waking up? Students have trouble when thinking about how to start their films. We start the day by waking up - but do films need to start this way?
If you see a character sat at his desk at work at the beginning of a film, do you automatically think "how did he get there? I haven't seen him brush his teeth or anything!"
No, of course not. If the audience can deduce anything at all - leave it out.
Thanks for your input! I appreciate constuctive criticism. The reason I have him waking up and having him wash his face, etc. is to try to show that he wakes up early and not getting a lot of sleep (splashing the water on the face supposedly helps people wake up when they're tired). This is supposed to add to the difficulties he's facing each day. I have watched a few other videos, and I definitely see what you're saying. Thanks once again for the feedback!
No worries. I make sure my film students understand that a film should start with an opening image that sets the tone of the film. When you begin with somebody waking up it should be because starting the day in a particular fashion is vital to the story.
Think about other ways to get your point across. We could see a milk float slowly moving down a dark street and then cut to your character waiting at the door for the milk rubbing his eyes. It's early. He hasn't had much sleep. No cliches! :)
I must agree. Whilst the video of its self is good for someone of his level and experience, the music unfortunately does not fit well with it and the theme of the music.
you're being too hard on yourself. for a highschooler with probably a limited amount of experience and training...this is VERY GOOD. Sure there are some minor hiccups, but alot of times people won't notice them, only the producer/editor would because he stares at the same video for an extended amount of time.
Thanks for the kind words. This is one of the few creative things I've done with my life, and I feel it is one of my greatest accomplishments. I appreciate your feedback
at 1:20 the pan right is sketchy and not fluid. at 1:32 you can see a finger on the lens.. dunno why... the VCU (very close up) at 2:04 is too close lol.. 2:30 pull out shaky, not fluid copright infringment from harvard haha.. BUT that was a great video.. my television productions teacher would give you 98%. i give you 100%

This song doesnt fit with this at all. It makes me feel like watching paint dry while listening to deaf metal.

take it from an industry pro: if you're doing REAL video editing, macs are the ONLY way to go.... unless you're a fan of constant problems.

I don't disagree with that. I am definitely a Windows (XP) person, but if you are doing photo editing or video editing, you want to go with Mac.
JSharpe187 4 years ago
if you used Windows Movie Maker.
I blame Windows movie maker. lol

I used Final Cut Pro...I'm guessing you're a Mac fan?
JSharpe187 4 years ago
not really.
I make my videos using WMM lol but whenever I cut frames sometimes a frame from the previous scene sneaks in somehow
GearThePat 4 years ago
I myself am not a big fan of Macs, but if you're doing video editing, WMM is not the way to go.
