I do dumbbell rows just lying on a flat bench. It takes all the stress of your lower back. Just make shure you find a bench that's the right height, so when you're lying on it you should be able to pick up the dumbbells from the floor with straight arms. You can really go to failure without the risk of injury!
Yes you are more likely to hurt yourself when you strain trying to get that extra rep and that is why many people are against training to failure. You don't have to train to failure to gain muscle guys, I always encourage people to look into the way the old school bodybuilders used to train (reg park, bill pearl, frank grimek, etc.)
With all due respect, this is complete bs. Bent over rows is easily the nuber one back excersise combined with lat pulldowns for your back. The only time ive gotten a sore back is when I do bent over rows, no exeptions. So, if you dont have a fucked up back, as most people actually dont, do them!
I've done squats, deadlifts and bent over rows for 2 years, on and off the gym, probably 5 months in a year worth of lifting, now I got back to it again, my lower back muscles are thick as fuck, compared to some dudes who don't do squats/deadlifts/rows, who are in similar size to me
I'd say, if it feels fine just do it, but don't go crazy with the weight, but hey, it works on me, never hurt my back doing it and I don't intend to do some crazy weights
Right on. Even if you heal up fast when you are young, the damage is done and like you guys said who wants to be rolling around in a wheelchair when you're fifty cause your vertabrae are loaded down with arthritis, your disks are blown out or flattened like a pancake and you have nerve damage in your spine and shit and piss yourself. it aint worth the cobra back and the extra fifty lbs on your bench. but people are gonna do what they do.
Well for people who don't have herniated discs, bent over barbell rows is the number 1 exercise for developing a thick back and it's just as safe as a bench press. Injury depends on the individual, not necessarily the exercise.
The thruth of the matter is, that Barbell Bent Over Rows are extremly hard on the lower back. I've been exercising for the last 12 years I did snap some shit up in my lower back with to herniated disks 3 years ago. To day Im still doing the Barbell Bent Over Rows but with allmost no weigt on. 20-25kg compared to 80-100kg 3 years ago. (Im danish so only metric). To day by lowering the weight and doing it right im stronger than I was before. You will snap some shit up eventually.
Man, these twins are hilarious. They hating on every exercise that puts a strain on your lower back, even t-bar rows. XD
Look, these twins fucked up their lower back hardcore, so the moment these guys bitch about lower backs, you know you aint at the right address, cuz these niggers are biased as hell. XD
look u say no rows standing it is true that they ll snap it one day BUT i dont think those rows chest supported will do much for my back :( do u have other safe options (anyway the machine u showed doesnt exist in gym can i still do them while lying on incline bench?
How do I know if I have strong or weak lower back? I didn't have any injuries in the past but sometimes when I do bent over rows or just using heavy weights when I'm standing I'm feeling some snapping cracking in my lower back. It's not pain but just short 5 sec. feeling. Don't know how to describe it. Especially it feels when you put down the weight and stand up fully. Than it starts.
THIS IS THE MOST TRUTH I HAVE HEARD ON HERE.. everything you guys just said is what just happened to me! been training a few years.. feeling strong but arc'd my back pulling up that heavy bar and it when crack! and then you KNOW ur screwed! been in bed ever since! the pain is more than anything, and you cant do ANYTHING without your lower back! taking a piss without any help will seem like a luxury after its too late!
Listen to this advice... and fuck what anyone else tells you!
Dude, fucking hell.. Im 15, and I defintetly snapped some shit up in my lower back, after my last set where i did those "extra reps", I was in the worst pain trying to sit down or stand up properly, and now if I arch my back or flex my lower back I get that sharp pain in my lower back.. and Im only 15, it got better after 1-2 weeks rest, but it's still there.. Wish I just saw this video first for advice.. Is there any tips at all? :s
this is terrible advice. guy doesn't squat, deadlift or do bent over rows? if you have a weak back with bad form sure bad idea to do these but if you know how to lift and no back problems they are the best workouts to do haha these guys are weak
@jtrim23 man take easy it's just advice.. why they are weak?? tell me why?? they're just trying to give some tips but hey... it's just advice ..... DO WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANNA DO and dont break our balls!
@Flstudz That isn't exactly the issue, my dude. The issue is, when you're doing bent over rows, the only thing keeping your back straight is your form which WILL shit out on you when you're trying to push yourself (and you should be pushing yourself if you wanna get shit done). With the T-bar contraption (and really any weighted rowing machine) they show in the video, the stress of holding form is non-existent because your chest is supported. Even the low row machine is better.
anecdotal evidence...just because you have had this negative experience with this exercise doesn't allow to say that the exercise is bad for everyone. faulty logic.
and since some gyms dont have chest supported rows u could use this magical device they invented to protect ur back when ur doing stressful excersises.
@spam2094 HAHA this. Deadlifts are probably the most important exercise for stability and overall strength reasons, along with ATG squats. also doing yates rows is easier on your lower back and still builds a ton of muscle.
arnold and his contemporaries used the barbell row as a staple back exercise. Dorian Yates used them. Why the fuck do you guys get so many views dispensing this nonsense? You got herniated discs so you condemn rows? People get in car accidents everyday, so tell people to stop driving.watching your vids is seriously as waste of time, just two guys with a camera
@hybridman Just because these guys say something you have to do it? FUCK NO. This is merely advice. KEY FUCKING WORD ADVICE. Appreciate someone taking the time out of their day to make videos like this.
What the hell do you guys know? I always did Bent over rows and I ain't never snapped some shit! I stopped doing them a couple months ago tho because it took too long to recover from them... but my gym buddy carried on and ended up in hospital...because he did WHAT THE FUCK HE WANTED TO DO!
Same it happened to me but deadlifting. Herniated snapped my shit up good and proper. Stay away from this too. You guys are fucking ace. Peace out Bradford UK yeeeahhhyeahhh
Very rare i disagree with your advice, bent over rows are great once done sensibly just as with any exercise. Any exercise not done properly can "snap ur shit up" In other words i wont go as far as telling ur followers to totally avoid this exercise, but hey thats your advice and this is mine.
@JuniorTaitt yeah but ur back is without doubt the most IMPORTANT part of ur body not to snap up (not saying its ok to snap anything else up) but unlike most other exercises, bent over rows strain ur back considerably especially if u go heavy which a lot of people do, T-bar rows take ALL pressure of ur lower back so u could go heavier anyway
uno what i actually dont understand why anyone would do the barbell bent row when it is for all the right reasons much safer and just as effective to do T-bar row..?
@TheDisciplezOfficial Yeah the thing is that you won't be able to develope the same thickness on your back by doing pull ups only. You'll get some damn nice width on your back byt no thickness to match. You need those rowing motions to work the upper part of your back.
@ObliquusExternus Yeah, I know what your saying man. I'm no pro, just wanna look a bit buff so I just concentrate on exercises I love... squats, benching, dips, pull ups, upright rows and military presses.... cant get enough of em :)
@TheDisciplezOfficial Great way to start off ^^ Sooner or later you'll get tired of doing the same exercises though ;) But 'til then you might aswell stick to what's working for you! Keep it up.
I can agree with this it happened to me while doing bent rows I had a disk buldge. Hurt like hell for about two weeks but I have a great chiropractor that was able to work the disk back in. I still do bent rows even heavier now I just won't bent over as far now when doing they I actually feel it more in my back this way and had better gains. Do the rows just be smart about it
@maxbm that wasnt talking shit at all... they said that if you do it like that you will probably "snap some shit up" haha which is true. but arnold was a boss so he did it anyway
theres some cheeky fuckers pulling these lads down ,they know what they are talking about as ive followed everything they say and im getting good results,so all you little fucking pussies with big mouths and words who think your all hard but really pussy biches shut the fuck up ,and go say it to there faces,i hope the twins bich slap yous like little biches you are rrrraaaaaaarggg
Truth be told, u can snap ur shit up on a machine/contraption just as easily as with free weights. Machines can build an inflated sense of security since most people label them as a 'safer alternative'. BULLSHIT! That will cause some people to still use too much weight, combined w/ the fact that machines primarily isolate muscles through a fixed pathway. U can still have terrible form on a machine and combined with premature overload on an isolated muscle equals snappin ur shit!
Yo i got a question.. Supported Tbar rows are the shit... what happens if i dont have that machine for supported tbar rows? and can only do regular rows
for all the people watching these vids where they say ur back will be ruined that is only true if ur back is already fucked up like there, when u go to do them remember to push ur stomach out as much as u can and that puts the pressure onto ur entire core rather than just focused on ur lower back
Instead of snapping some shit up doing bent over rows.. just do some pull-ups and add weight once it gets too easy, never heard of anyone fucking their back up doing pull-ups, and if you do a couple variations you don't really need to do a lot else for lats.
Snap shit up. I should of watched some of these videos way before I started lifted when I was 15. I got fucked shoulders, a fucked up lower back, and fucked hip. Shit! I guess I'm fucked. hAhA.
fuck im like keith cant fuck squat for shit cause of my disks from my lower back i try to pick some keys an BAM! feels like your lower back is ripping off from you
I used to be one strong muda fka before one day I done this excercise and pushed to much going for more reps and poppopop is all I heard. Couldn't get out of bed ha to roll out everymorning. I still feel the pain to this day. I literally lift "light weight" now. Feel like a bitch. Don't do it unless your a professional strong man on gorilla juice
@swoop223 Well i lost my Gym membership about a month ago, but that doesn';t mean that i don't workout. I have a basic home gym- squat rack, bench, barbells, and dumbells. So for a back workout My only options are deadlifts, pullups, bentover rows and dumbell rows. I have built a great back with mainly doing different variations of bent over barbell rows and deadlifts. I have never had any back pain whatsoever either.
@pbhenry my bad, I just assumed you were one of "those" guys who regarded an advice as a pure fact. It seems like a lot of users on ytube belives in just about everything instead of finding out for themself, what works for them. Sounds to me like you have a great gym at home. Again sorry for the mistake!
thanks for the tip about not arching up your back, my sciatic nerve was hurting down to my knee the last time I did tbar so I took some time off and will lower the weight by 40 or 50 lbs and pay closer attention to better form
YEAH, you guys are correct. Those bent over rows and free squats will F@CK up your lower back. I use leg press and the hack-squat machine for quads and hams. I use the T-row machine, lat bar, and pull ups for my back
@0305trailblazer would you shut up with your bullshit? Just because you made a mistake in the gym lifting weights, doesn't mean it's bad for everyone else.
I do dumbbell rows just lying on a flat bench. It takes all the stress of your lower back. We've all heard it before y'all: proper form and working at YOUR ability is how u do it
bklyngutta 8 months ago
Truth be told, u can snap ur shit up on a machine/contraption just as easily as with free weights. Machines can build an inflated sense of security since most people label them as a 'safer alternative'. BULLSHIT! That will cause some people to still use too much weight, combined w/ the fact that machines primarily isolate muscles through a fixed pathway. U can still have terrible form on a machine and combined with premature overload on an isolated muscle equals snappin ur shit!

for all the people watching these vids where they say ur back will be ruined that is only true if ur back is already fucked up like there, when u go to do them remember to push ur stomach out as much as u can and that puts the pressure onto ur entire core rather than just focused on ur lower back

Instead of snapping some shit up doing bent over rows.. just do some pull-ups and add weight once it gets too easy, never heard of anyone fucking their back up doing pull-ups, and if you do a couple variations you don't really need to do a lot else for lats.

Good excercise makes yah back huge....go light and not too heavy on the bent over rows cause your back grows faster than and other muscle group....

CuntDangIt 9 months ago
but when you do T bar row, you aren't training core whatsoever, which is a huge advantage of bent over barbell rows.
VvRushvV 9 months ago
the only way u r gonna "snap some shit up" is if you dont work on ur core, which you guys dont seem to like to do. keep drinking your jacked 3d guys.

I have never had any back pain whatsoever either.
pbhenry 9 months ago
@pbhenry my bad, I just assumed you were one of "those" guys who regarded an advice as a pure fact. It seems like a lot of users on ytube belives in just about everything instead of finding out for themself, what works for them. Sounds to me like you have a great gym at home. Again sorry for the mistake!
Swoop223 9 months ago
i have herniated discs aswell i cant do squats deadlifts bentover rowws it sucks

ive had disc removed got sciatica horrible lot pain been 17 years so BE CAREFUL.
DAVERUKY 9 months ago
thanks for the tip about not arching up your back, my sciatic nerve was hurting down to my knee the last time I did tbar so I took some time off and will lower the weight by 40 or 50 lbs and pay closer attention to better form
tbayguy 9 months ago
YEAH, you guys are correct. Those bent over rows and free squats will F@CK up your lower back. I use leg press and the hack-squat machine for quads and hams. I use the T-row machine, lat bar, and pull ups for my back
0305trailblazer 9 months ago
@0305trailblazer would you shut up with your bullshit? Just because you made a mistake in the gym lifting weights, doesn't mean it's bad for everyone else.
Swoop223 9 months ago
Instead of saying all of the excercises that are bad, would'nt it be easier to just say the ones that you actually do? lol
pbhenry 9 months ago 22
@pbhenry instead of relying on other folks opinions, maybe you should hit the gym and find out exactly what excerises that are bad for you, or good?
There's no such thing as a "bad" excercise in the gym, only "bad" mistakes
Swoop223 9 months ago
@pbhenry they do
