  • I do dumbbell rows just lying on a flat bench. It takes all the stress of your lower back. Just make shure you find a bench that's the right height, so when you're lying on it you should be able to pick up the dumbbells from the floor with straight arms. You can really go to failure without the risk of injury!

  • Is a tbar row with just the bar still safer or just as dangerous as bent over row?

  • Yes you are more likely to hurt yourself when you strain trying to get that extra rep and that is why many people are against training to failure. You don't have to train to failure to gain muscle guys, I always encourage people to look into the way the old school bodybuilders used to train (reg park, bill pearl, frank grimek, etc.)

  • With all due respect, this is complete bs. Bent over rows is easily the nuber one back excersise combined with lat pulldowns for your back. The only time ive gotten a sore back is when I do bent over rows, no exeptions. So, if you dont have a fucked up back, as most people actually dont, do them!

  • I've done squats, deadlifts and bent over rows for 2 years, on and off the gym, probably 5 months in a year worth of lifting, now I got back to it again, my lower back muscles are thick as fuck, compared to some dudes who don't do squats/deadlifts/rows, who are in similar size to me

    I'd say, if it feels fine just do it, but don't go crazy with the weight, but hey, it works on me, never hurt my back doing it and I don't intend to do some crazy weights

Even if you heal up fast when you are young, the damage is done and like you guys said who wants to be rolling around in a wheelchair when you're fifty cause your vertabrae are loaded down with arthritis, your disks are blown out or flattened like a pancake and you have nerve damage in your spine and shit and piss yourself. it aint worth the cobra back and the extra fifty lbs on your bench. but people are gonna do what they do.

  • Well for people who don't have herniated discs, bent over barbell rows is the number 1 exercise for developing a thick back and it's just as safe as a bench press. Injury depends on the individual, not necessarily the exercise.

  • The thruth of the matter is, that Barbell Bent Over Rows are extremly hard on the lower back. I've been exercising for the last 12 years I did snap some shit up in my lower back with to herniated disks 3 years ago. To day Im still doing the Barbell Bent Over Rows but with allmost no weigt on. 20-25kg compared to 80-100kg 3 years ago. (Im danish so only metric). To day by lowering the weight and doing it right im stronger than I was before. You will snap some shit up eventually.

  • How do I know if I have strong or weak lower back? I didn't have any injuries in the past but sometimes when I do bent over rows or just using heavy weights when I'm standing I'm feeling some snapping cracking in my lower back. It's not pain but just short 5 sec. feeling. Don't know how to describe it. Especially it feels when you put down the weight and stand up fully. Than it starts.

Im 15, and I defintetly snapped some shit up in my lower back, after my last set where i did those "extra reps", I was in the worst pain trying to sit down or stand up properly, and now if I arch my back or flex my lower back I get that sharp pain in my lower back.. and Im only 15, it got better after 1-2 weeks rest, but it's still there.. Wish I just saw this video first for advice.. Is there any tips at all? :s

  • @MultiPumpingiron t bar row is not for lower back to begin with, it's upper and middle back... lats and rhomboids

    lower back is deadlifts and back extensions and good mornings........ google them.... you can use some really good HAMMER machines for rows

  • this is terrible advice. guy doesn't squat, deadlift or do bent over rows? if you have a weak back with bad form sure bad idea to do these but if you know how to lift and no back problems they are the best workouts to do haha these guys are weak

The issue is, when you're doing bent over rows, the only thing keeping your back straight is your form which WILL shit out on you when you're trying to push yourself (and you should be pushing yourself if you wanna get shit done). With the T-bar contraption (and really any weighted rowing machine) they show in the video, the stress of holding form is non-existent because your chest is supported. Even the low row machine is better.

  • @spam2094 HAHA this. Deadlifts are probably the most important exercise for stability and overall strength reasons, along with ATG squats. also doing yates rows is easier on your lower back and still builds a ton of muscle.

  • Very rare i disagree with your advice, bent over rows are great once done sensibly just as with any exercise. Any exercise not done properly can "snap ur shit up" In other words i wont go as far as telling ur followers to totally avoid this exercise, but hey thats your advice and this is mine.

  • @JuniorTaitt yeah but ur back is without doubt the most IMPORTANT part of ur body not to snap up (not saying its ok to snap anything else up) but unlike most other exercises, bent over rows strain ur back considerably especially if u go heavy which a lot of people do, T-bar rows take ALL pressure of ur lower back so u could go heavier anyway

  • @TheDisciplezOfficial Yeah the thing is that you won't be able to develope the same thickness on your back by doing pull ups only. You'll get some damn nice width on your back byt no thickness to match. You need those rowing motions to work the upper part of your back.

  • I can agree with this it happened to me while doing bent rows I had a disk buldge. Hurt like hell for about two weeks but I have a great chiropractor that was able to work the disk back in. I still do bent rows even heavier now I just won't bent over as far now when doing they I actually feel it more in my back this way and had better gains. Do the rows just be smart about it

  • Truth be told, u can snap ur shit up on a machine/contraption just as easily as with free weights. Machines can build an inflated sense of security since most people label them as a 'safer alternative'. BULLSHIT! That will cause some people to still use too much weight, combined w/ the fact that machines primarily isolate muscles through a fixed pathway. U can still have terrible form on a machine and combined with premature overload on an isolated muscle equals snappin ur shit!

  • @swoop223 Well i lost my Gym membership about a month ago, but that doesn';t mean that i don't workout. I have a basic home gym- squat rack, bench, barbells, and dumbells. So for a back workout My only options are deadlifts, pullups, bentover rows and dumbell rows. I have built a great back with mainly doing different variations of bent over barbell rows and deadlifts. I have never had any back pain whatsoever either.

It seems like a lot of users on ytube belives in just about everything instead of finding out for themself, what works for them. Sounds to me like you have a great gym at home.   • thanks for the tip about not arching up your back, my sciatic nerve was hurting down to my knee the last time I did tbar so I took some time off and will lower the weight by 40 or 50 lbs and pay closer attention to better form

  • YEAH, you guys are correct. Those bent over rows and free squats will F@CK up your lower back. I use leg press and the hack-squat machine for quads and hams. I use the T-row machine, lat bar, and pull ups for my back
