I think Sally Struthers is a great person, but somehow seemed to take a turn for the worse, as she got older. I can remember seeing her on tv helping hungry children not long after AITF, and she was way heavier, and just seemed like a "depressed type" person. For most of the 70's she was hot, and had such a cute & good attitude. Anyone know what happened to her in real life? I bring this up, because you can see that major difference in this show. That's right! Why would they have a baby shower AFTER the baby is expected?? And inviting the women from the childbirth class, women she's only known for 6 weeks? Did Gloria go to all THEIR showers? Questions...questions..LOL!

Well, there are times to speak and times to be quiet, no matter who is listening. If a man loses his job, it's not a good moment for a woman to say, 'Don't worry, I'll support the family.' Most of what a woman would say at that time would make the man more upset. That said, Mike is doing his best here and Gloria's not even trying. If she's in a metaphysical revolt against her own sex, that's her problem. Mike didn't design human reproduction; and she participated in getting pregnant.
It might be ignorance because they can't know what a woman's feeling, but it's not because they lack intelligence. They are trying to help, to 'fix' things & make them better. Women also try to help & only make the man feel worse, like when he's feeling bad about a failure. Mike is TRYING & Gloria is spewing sexist crap. He could tell her, 'You are a strong, independent woman who doesn't need a man for anything; you can do this all on your own.' See how her feminist rhetoric feels then.
