i think people should only compare techniques when the two guitar players are equaly creative musicaly cause the main thing is to compose beautifull music with or without technique. in this case marty is a bit more creative in my opinion.

Dime is a fantastic player, one of my favorite dudes to listen to. His aggresive style, vibrato, tone, phrasing etc But seriously, Marty's playing and weird ideas especially back in the Cacophony days, was stuff that even dime wouldn't have the musical horsepower to pull off. Check out the outside playing on any Cacophony cd or on the tune "saturation point" on his dragon's kiss album....pure Marty atonal wizardry that nobody else can touch(except for Jason Becker who owns the whole bunch!).

Marty does not equal Megadeth people... people never seem to look in to these guitarists before comparing them... Marty... if were comparing shred terms should equal Cacophony... If you want some feel.. try his album "Scenes"... Dime is awesome and one of my favorites of all time... but i'd be stupid to say he was better at lead than Marty... he may have been at rhythm... but Marty is a virtuoso... Dime is what i would say 1 in a million natural talent.

I think Dimebag is a better shredder, and uses more technique, his use of the whammy bar, pinch harmonics and sweep picking show how technical he is. Marty is better at vibrattos and arpeggios, but really the only thing unique about him is his upstroke picking style., i find his solos easier to play then dimebags They both have feeling, and both are Theory nuts, both know a fair amount of other styles. but dime writes all of pantera/damageplan guitar parts, dave writes megadeths, except for few

im gonna make it real simple.. they are both world class lead guitarists , but dimebag was a far superior rhythm guitarist. his riffs sent Far Beyond Driven to #1 on the charts.. no small feat for a THRASH band
