  • The next step in evolution = Higher IQ = Atheism.

  • Stop feeding the troll that thinks his IQ levels up like a pokemon. xD Damn.

  • because you have no life?

  • @biskwikman He said he is interested in spiritual experiences. But he does not believe in "spirits" nor "The Spirit" which is belived by most religions. The Bible say God is a Spirit. Sy John 4th chapter. So again I'm confused.

  • looking into 9/11 made him renounce religion...and looking into The Tuskegee Experiment made me renounce scientific imperialism. We are even.

  • He makes good points but taints his arguments by saying things like the Al-Qaeda terrorists carried out their actions on 9/11 because of "explicitly religious reasons", ignoring the fact that such an organization also acts on political motives.

  • @MerrickSalamander "actions on 9/11 because of "explicitly religious reasons""

Harris's point is simple [I don't know why people are compelled to argue against this point]: It is EXTREMELY likely that the 9/11 hijackers (despite political motives) BELIEVED their actions would be rewarded with eternal paradise complete with 72 virgins and rivers of milk and honey. Do you think the HIJACKERS sacrificed themselves for "political motives" alone? If so, what evidence supports this idea?

  • @blaisingm My comment indicated that I believe the hijackers acted on political AND religious motives. Mostly religious. I do not disagree with Harris's point in the least. I was merely making a comment on his use of language.

  • @MerrickSalamander " I was merely making a comment on his use of language."

I think Harris's language was about as accurate as one could possibly make it. Harris isn't talking about the Al-Queda leaders working "behind the scenes" who have political motives. He's OBVIOUSLY referring to the suicide hijackers [ who's motives were religious] who are manipulated by those politics.

  • @blaisingm He may very well be, but he didn't make as clear of a distinction as he should have. It's very popular lately to characterize the the leadership in extremist Islam as religiously motivated. It's very important to make the distinction because it reinforces the cultural divide between the west and the middle east. Religions are by their nature irreconcilable, but political views aren't, If we approach it as a religious dispute, then no resolution will ever be found.

  • @MerrickSalamander true muslims only look at politics to see how it can help their religous cause, do politics come into play? yes, but they are secondary

  • Weird but true more atheist know about religion then the one that preach. That why we are not so stupid to fallow it. Like your not dumb enough to believe godZilla really exist and Pegasus and unicorns and talking fish And Zeus the God of lightning. Cave books aka Bible are to be in the fiction section of any book store or libraries.

  • I don't understand if religion is so bad why is Sam Harris searching for it?

  • @waynepoint Meditation isn't religious. Thinking in new ways and opening your mind isn't religious.

  • @Slnira Copycat, you're stupid LOL

  • @Slnira Copycat, you're stupid LOL

  • All religions goes against all of our innate feelings.

All religions are,are a pacifier, something to dwell upon outside of reality, and when reality returns, religion is all but forgotten.

This is a notion brought upon our societies by power hungry bigots who think they know best and who want to control the masses.

These idiots have so much to answer to.

Just leave it to the ladies within our societies and all will be well.

As Christopher Hitchens said ` Religion poisons Everything `

    RIP the Hitch

  • @naybobdenod I wholeheartedly agree. However the same could be said of political systems, culture and society in general. Human thoughts and feelings are always constrained by the systems which govern their lives, I think it might even become a question of whether we have innate feelings, or if we are simply conditioned to think and feel a certain way dependent on our surroundings and external controls.

  • @MrThor4u What a witty response! You owned him! Wow! I thought he was an incredibly intelligent man who makes fact-based, fascinating arguments, but you've totally changed my mind! What a doofus Sam Harris, famous author, lecturer, and PhD neuroscientist, is! His achievements must indeed pale before the onslaught of your own accomplishments!

  • @ShellsOnTheFloor Thank you. I will take that as a compliment without any sarcasm.

  • @MrThor4u Please, don't.

  • @ShellsOnTheFloor ROFL your comment made my day

  • @ShellsOnTheFloor You just wasted your time. MrThor4u now thinks you agree with him, and is thumping his chest in victory. Nevermind the fact that there is a 50 point difference between his IQ and Sam's. Lol!

  • @InteGrayting2 More than 50 probably.

  • @InteGrayting2 How do you know it's 50 points? You don't; but I can applaud your comment with the benefit of the doubt that it is true that my IQ is higher, as the thumb-ups indicated. LOL...

  • @MrThor4u Lol! Rock on brother!

  • @InteGrayting2 Thanks bro. Well, looks like my IQ is going up, +80 at the moment.

  • @ShellsOnTheFloor Couldn't have put it better myself. Thank you.

  • @ShellsOnTheFloor the "lmao" really hammered his point home

  • @jjtheslayer69 Don't be. It's all for good.

  • @MrThor4u god doesn't exist. Moron

  • @charlietuna34 In the video "v=8vj0qKthCgg" professor Storm call you an ignorant. But you're not just an ignorant, you are also an idiot. LOL

  • @MrThor4u you must be religous, tell me why you dont believe in zeus, shiva, or hades and I will tell you why I dont belive in your god

  • @thisismikesalajc I don't know enough about zeus, shiva or hades to say one way or the other, but God is a title and not a name. Like president or king, God has subordinates and enemies (Lucifer/Satan). Any one of these beings can interact with man and you probably won't know which one you're dealing with. This is why there are many religion and everyone has his/her own characterization of whom they're dealing with. Now, you tell me why you don't believe in God.

  • @MrThor4u Because I have never been given any evidence to do so. I dont believe in god for the same reason I dont believe in zombies or vampires and im not trying to be funny. I would love to find out their is an all loving god but just because I want it to be true doesnt make it so. I am not claiming to have any answers, Im just saying I dont believe the answers religon has tried to provide.

  • @thisismikesalajc Escaping eternal isolation or torment is not something to be funny about. If earth is dying and the only way to escape death is to go to Mars, I am sure you would want to go to Mars, I would. I have nothing to lose. People believe in a God because God control the spiritual world and only He can take you to heaven. If you are serious wanting to know I can show you some evidence. Let's just start with professor Storm: v=8vj0qKthCgg

  • @MrThor4u I told you directly in my comment I was not trying to be funny. And if the earth was dying and going to mars was the only way to excape..... and I knew you were going to be on mars, I would go to a bar and wait for the end.

  • @thisismikesalajc And I was agreeing with you that it is not funny. Well, if you are not going to Mars then there is nothing I can do for you. Good luck at the bar.

  • @MrThor4u You are an idiot. Lmao.

  • @fvalen001 Stupid copycat.

  • @Pissatme Stupid Idiot.

  • @fvalen001 stupid moron

  • @fvalen001 I didn't insult you so fuck off you mental retarded.

  • Comment removed

  • Is fucking hilarious how this video has more views than any other about physics, art or technology. Yes Michio humanity will destroy itself!.

  • @Paulxy6 What?

  • Take in the comments from "Anomaly1111"................amazing!

And this is someone who knows the "Truth" about 9/11.

Funny, he shares the same kind of dogmatic faith that Harris speaks of. And demonstrates it's potential for dangerous lunacy.

    Well done!

  • Interesting that the Most Rev. Harris says "that is the kind of faith I'm criticizing"... after criticizing a faith which nobody actually holds.

Look how he shifts from the 72 Virgins of Islam to a subtle connection with the "Sadist in the Sky" (Father of Christ). He is literally taking every silliest cliché about God and making that into what the "enemy" believes. The problem is that he is not attacking any God that anyone believes in. As a Catholic, I say there is no sky wizard: proudly so.

  • why i criticize religion? because its gay

  • @ReptarSickness you have a problem with homosexuals?

  • @solgabert yes

  • @ReptarSickness weak sauce

  • @solgabert very insulting.

  • @ReptarSickness I am sorry. Did I hurt your feelings?

  • @solgabert No i really cant get offended by being called a food

  • @ReptarSickness Even weak food?

  • @solgabert no chance

  • @ReptarSickness must feel strong.

  • @solgabert very

  • What an amazing source of reason. Not that I did not know much of it to begin with - I think the vast majority of us do.

  • I disagree with the idea of 911 being entirely motivated on religious lines. Any study of Al-Quaeda and their motivations would see that it was primarily a reaction to the US's continued support of Saudi Arabia and Israel. The US foreign policy in the Middle East the past few decades basically had us assassinating leaders and supporting insurgent groups to manipulate the political climate in the region against the Soviet Union. The religious argument is merely to cover uncomfortable truths.

  • thanks for that. I was feeling weird listening to Harris talk about religion being the motivating factor of this.

I think this is why I've largely turned my back on this whole strident atheism (as much as I like[d] HItchens et al) - they blame too much on religion, when you could instead take the sentence "if america occupied [atheist nation] it would result in the same consequence" to see what is really the case.

  • @KrausHyperOpera its not to cover up the truth, its to mobilise the followers to act in ways that are detrimental to them - eg: suicide bombers get virgins, etc. Nasty stuff.

  • I know the religious are scared. Death, suffering lonliness are all scary. I am scared too but I don't seek the refuge of a warm and fuzzy belief. It blinds people instead of helping them see the world in all its color. I'll stand and face what comes, like a Human, with a some startch in my collar, a song in my head and a fierce joy in my heart. Maybe if I die with a sword in hand, fighting, the Gods of my ancestors will take me? Probably not, but I was always a sucker for a good story. :)

  • Pff, why bother critisizing religon, it practically critisizes it'self.

    Wait...

  • I pray all the time. I connect to the Universe and the God that created it. It feels really good. I feel safe and secure with God. Its an inside job. Its between the child in me and the Universe. Its a communication awareness. Its a wonderful thing.

  • From 23rock3's source: "You are reading this book, so you are conscious (alive). This means you have always been conscious and always will be" [BS Assertion]

"because it is not possible for you to be aware of being dead (unconscious). You cannot be aware of not being aware," [WOW]

"you cannot be conscious of being unconscious." [Duh]

Flawed logic from the get go. I was dead (unconscious) before life and will be so again afterwards.... Hell, I almost fell unconscious reading that crap.

  • The motivations for 9/11 was not Islam it was US foreign policy.

  • @rectum That's not spam and I hate how people just click spam anytime they don't like what someone says. You make points that need to be looked at, not hidden.

  • And somehow auto correct turned your name into rectum. Funny, but not done on purpose.

  • I had a similar transformation. 911 focused my attention on religion and more convinces me that it all is wrong. However, I hope the discussion is respectfull. I'm not sure Bill Mare helps the cause.

  • @1Whitetrashkid

Bill Mare? I'm reading that as Maher. Did you watch Religulous?

  • 9/11 was covered up and blamed up religion, but it we all know it was an inside job YOU FUCKING MORON. You cant play that card anymore, it was blamed on a certain religion in an effort to damage it, when the evidence was clear it was an inside job, that sparked the idea that what they wanted to damage was not just a religion but the TRUTH.

It was an inside job YOU FUCKING MORON

  • @Anomaly1111 This has been proven false many many times, osama even fucking said he did it- terrorism happens all the time and it's motivated by religion, their dogma gives them reason to because scriptures say so.

  • @VColossalV invalid invalid invalid invalid

with that level of intellect i wont even bother

  • @Anomaly1111 Good luck with that.

  • @VColossalV thanks!

  • @Anomaly1111 Cool it. You throw "fucking moron" out and then wonder why "Truthers" are marginalized? 9/11 as an inside job has NOT been proven. And no we do not all "know it". Plenty of people of good character dispute Truther allegations. They are not all "shills" or Zionists or defenders of the Bush Admin. or any of the other terms that so many Truthers throw to stiffle debate.

  • @MrArtstacks Truther? im sorry who you calling a truther?

Me knowing the truth about an incident makes me a truther? is your mind associating these 2 things? yes.

No label can define a person, truth is truth take it or leave it. Proved? are you a fucking moron? they going to come out and clean about this? are you retarded?

why did you decide to send me a comment, i dont need your opinion

  • @Anomaly1111 You don't need my opinion, but we need yours?

Listen to yourself..."fucking moron"..""retarded". Yeah, way to convince. I call you a "Truther", because you display the traits...arrogance, surety, quick to insult those that don't agree. You share traits with religious fundies.

  • @MrArtstacks whos we? im writing a comment whos forcing you to read it.. really who?

i dont care whether you agree or not, i dont even want to know what you think, keep yourself to yourself i didnt aim anything at you and no im not christian.

Do you really think your opinion on something has any effect on the reality of it at all LOL

brainwashed zombie go suck some media dick suck on a fox news cock

    just fuck off fag

  • @Anomaly1111 You are too easy to bait.

Just listen to yourself. Your reading comprehension is nil..I didn't say you were Christian. I said you share traits with religious fundies..arrogance, fanatic belief in unproved things, violent reaction to perceived heresy.

As to the rest of your unfounded assertions and bigoted("fag" as insult, really?)profane tirade. Well, you just show you immaturity and ignorance.

Be quiet, there are adults speaking here.

  • @MrArtstacks Get the fuck off my dick you slut...

what are you a fag? i said fuck off stop trying to impose views i dont want to hear anything from you,, i didnt even read your comment as soon as i saw your username.

Get some dick somewhere else im a straight man, your nothing but a brainwashed zombie, your a shill, a demon possessed shill i know your kind government agents. Take your fancy words and stick them up your ass fag, go suck some mainstream cock brainwashed zombie. Fuck off demon

  • Religion doesnt cause terrorism. Ignorance does. So do you say that not believing in God will keep people from murdering other people? That is a ridiculous idea.

  • Religion without the truth (that which is in accord with fact or reality) is like a light bulb without electricity. With the truth, religions will be reborn, and there will be an explosion in spiritual growth. Religions will no longer be based just on blind faith. Search "Truth Contest" in Google and click on the 1st result, then open The Present (with religion) and read what it says to learn the truth.

  • @23rock3 Don't bother going to that site....Its.... NOT TRUE lmao

  • @23rock3 truth??? lol. youre kidding right? all the religious books say they have the truth. self proclaiming books. what myth do you choose to follow as "truth"? why do creationists try to use "witty" analogies that dont mean anything? religion is dying. the only thing keeping it going is infant indoctrination. thank "god" lol. atheism is on the rise. back to the definition of "truth" how is a talking snake, virgin birth and noahs ark considered reality or fact?

  • @xamot27 I didnt say religion or religious book are literally true, they are not, but they do have some nuggets of truth in them, read "The Present" (with religion) to see what i mean, if you want the "truth" without religion read "The Present"(universal truth).

  • @xamot27 We are not a dogma like religions with a fixed view. This contest constantly updates and improves our knowledge of the truth. Religions are mostly myths as you said, but this site is not about religion, its about the truth that you can check in the real world.

  • @xamot27 Reply to your last remark: "considered reality or fact?" Well i know that does seem odd, and peculiar in such ways, enough so that it is too odd to be some fairy tale created by prehistoric man. I believe these moments and situations mentioned in the bible, are mis-analyzed consequences or just metaphors, take the tower of babel for instance, it could easily interpret man trying to reach the power of god and getting struck down and separated through language and tradition.

  • @Putz4Ever If aspects of the bible should be taken metaphorically as many Christians profess, why stop there?

God itself could simply be a poetic metaphor of the unknown (as has been the purpose of all deities in all religions).

  • @weefeatures I sent xamot27 a full length report on the studies of religion and physics, and i dont feal like repeating myself.

  • @Putz4Ever fair enough

  • @weefeatures Religion really is so much more fun once you understand that it's all bullshit.

  • @xamot27 well there HAVE been numerous accounts of a massive worldwide flood but an old dude building a boat housing all the animals in the world, yeah. right. xD

  • @xamot27 There is no truth in evolution. At least we haven't learned everything to understand the whole process. There are real truths to a talking snake and noah's ark that a partially-developed brain couldn't understand.

  • @dalasoft youre joking right?

  • @xamot27 LOL, I am serious, really... :)

  • @dalasoft why would a god reveal a "perfect book" on how to live to a species HE created with a "partially developed" brain? some faulty craftsmenship by the ultimate being dont you think? sounds like we need to evolve more according to your comment. ironic...

  • @xamot27 Einstein's brain is larger than most people yet not everything he believes is correct. It's not the physical part but the mental part I am talking about. My point was that if one think that a snake actually talk without external influence, that individual is still dumb. While some people have better sense than other, there are some people that refuse to use that part of their ability. Most of us just need to be taught that's all.

  • 210 people have imaginary friends

  • let the blind lead the blind..

  • @Sinekeyre14 I kind of expect that of all religions; "Believe as I do or you will suffer/not-be-rewarded" type mentality.

As for what Sam Harris is, he's freed his mind and can no longer be considered "Jewish" as you put it and is no longer associated with the conspiracy theories attributed to that religion.

  • He was raised in a secular (JEWISH) home with a secular (JEWISH) culture. I'm not christian or anything else, but this man is obviously trying to attack religions like jews always do, and expell the competing cultures. He's a jewish supremacist.

  • Hes only criticising Islam -_- he renounces all religion just because of islam? thats like me saying every black guy has robbed a bank.

  • @LizzieLuvsMusic683 no it's not, and no he doesn't.

  • Osama Bin Laden got his promised 72 virgin goats from Allah. :)

  • Baby Jesus is crying right now. :(

  • losers below me and above me

  • OMG !

  • oooo he used terms like Religion, Terrorist, and 9/11

BRING ON THE YOUTUBE FIGHTS lmaooooo

  • Why not? :p

  • Why I Criticize Religion??? Who gives a FUCK why??

  • @seanblessing feel free to sterilize yourself and stop voting. You're too damn stupid to continue breathing...but that'd be going overboard.

  • @dsrtdawg1: My word a typical atheist response, wanting someone to stop breathing and die eh? Well let me tell you something, no one gives a fuck what you think, or why I this and why I that etc... I went for crap this morning but I ain't posting a YouTube video about it.

Do the planet a favour and stop spewing your verbal diarrhea across the Internet and stick you videos right up your cosmos... Oh speaking of stupid you actually look stupid!!

  • @seanblessing Hey Douche, where did I promote death? I just showed Allah doesn't protect the believers.

Your mother wasn't bitching about my looks when she blew me.....twice.

  • @dsrtdawg1: And you call yourself a free thinker? A pervert more like. The only one that would go down on you is either a gay man or a child. You look like a kiddy fiddler!!

  • @seanblessing ah..this originally came up under another thread...so many idiots..so little time....How Christian of you for your response...that's all I needed. You're a hypocrite. I'll save you a seat in hell.

  • @dsrtdawg1: I am not a Christian and you're the one who choose to scrape the bottom of the barrel to get your sad point across. As for Hell, well none of us will be lonely as all our friends will be there.

  • 5:01-5:05 : '72 virgins in paradise' - I am a Muslim and I could't find any sentences either in Al-Quran or Hadith saying that the believer will get 72 virgins in paradise. Sam Harris, could you show me where you get this fact?

  • @kirablacknote Your idiot Imam's are telling that to kids who are blowing themselves up...your god like all others don't exist. Wake up..smell the coffee and get a clue...quit praying 5 times a day and praising allah with every breath and look at the facts...guess what...Israel...still there. All the martyrs dead...nothings changed. Jews and Christians are just as stupid....there are NO gods...live and love life not Santa Claus in the sky.

  • @dsrtdawg1 please read book by Harun Yahya.

  • @kirablacknote No...Not reading a damn book based upon your belief in make believe gods...how about you review the history of history and realize your an idiot. Allah hasn't done a DAMN thing to promote your idiotic religion...nor has god done a DAMN thing to promote jews or christians...or any god for any people. FUK are you really that brainwashed you can't see that your god and all god's are useless?

  • @dsrtdawg1 See, you the one who choose to be ignorant. I do read, learn and try to understand why people choose not to believe in god. In fact I am fascinated by the capability of people like Richard Dawkins to think. If you choose not to read books about Islam, then you don't deserved to spread wrong fact about Islam. My point is, if you spread or giving point about something you do not know or not sure, then it means you are lying.

  • @kirablacknote I know about Islam and much more...stopping to read ONE book you choose doesn't change the argument. Make you a deal...you tell me how millions of martyrs getting killed promoted your religion one centimeter forward, I'll read your book? As, I see it...the evil US wipes out Islamic forces in hours. Israel continues to dominate and Allah is still not on the scene.

  • @dsrtdawg1 maybe you were right. you should tell me what you know about Islam. I might be blinded and brainwashed right now.

  • @kirablacknote It fails..Allah doesn't protect you or anyone else..you die and nothing improves for your people. Your God like all others are false Gods. Get off your knees 5x a day and think 24 hours a day.

  • @dsrtdawg1 wow..a very convincing explanation and information from someone who admits he knows Islam.well, I guess better for me to continue my faith and finish up my revision on Quantum Physics. Man I love Physics :)

  • I love Sam Harris. He is so gorgeous!

  • I personally believe that we, as a society, need to grant the freedom of ALL beliefs, atheism and conventional religion. As an agnostic myself, I tend to agree with atheism, but I think it would be harmful to attempt to ban conventional religion. Think of freedoms that we appreciate, the freedoms to say what we wish, the freedom to voice our opinion. Those freedoms would suffer if we tried to ban certain beliefs.

  • @Arborverden NO...we need to condemn dumbass beliefs..they cause war and pain and make good people do bad things. 18 year old kids blow themselves up for religion. At most, Atheists make believers mad...who is the real evil here?

  • @dsrtdawg1 You are overgeneralizing. Trust me, there would be far more violence if people were tried to be deprived of their practices and beliefs. I don't condemn people that don't hurt others. Why condemn everyone just because there are a few extremist islamic terrorists out there? It doesn't make sense.

  • I am not religious, but I say that religion has its good uses, and that people should be granted the freedom of what they want to believe in, even if they believe God is a hairy popcorn pig.

  • @Arborverden Think about how many deaths religion has caused, how many people have been blown up because they don't believe in what others believe.

The motive for 9/11 was purely religious.

Religion is the worst think that happend to mankind and it has held us back for hundred of years. Stamcel research is the most promising field in science and religion is holding it back.

  • @ikheetjason irregardless of religion, people are still going to commit crimes. Religion is only a small factor of social injustice. Corruption exists among atheists as well. Smashing religion won't solve unjust deaths at all. Think of the violence that would occur if a legitimate effort was made crushing conventional religion.

9/11 occurred for reasons that were not 100% religious. falsified political indoctrination caused the terrorists to hate the U.S. irregardless of extremist Islam.

  • @Arborverden

For future reference, irregardless is a double negative.

  • @davidST81 Thank you. I've often been confused about that word.

  • @Arborverden

    no problem everyone does it.

  • @davidST81 so is antidisestablishmentarianism

  • @ikheetjason Stem Cell research is a promising technology, I would agree with that. But religion isn't actually holding it back. Nothing is holding it back. It continues to expand irregardless of what opponents of it wish. I think that most Christians, or Catholics, rather, oppose a certain kind of stem cell research, Embryonic. This is the kind that, ironically hasn't yielding any promising results yet anyway. Adult stem cells are more effective because they can survive and reproduce.

  • @Arborverden You're an idiot..your granting myth the power to allow good people to do good things......GOOD PEOPLE DO GOOD THINGS...religions empowers good people to do bad things.

  • @dsrtdawg1 No, I'm not an idiot. I just have a different opinion. At least I can state my thoughts coherently. What did you even mean by "your granting myth the power to allow good people to do good things."? I believe religion can be good AND bad. But, in general, religion is just a belief, just like atheism is a belief. Atheism is a belief that there is no God, so it isn't just a lack of belief. Who are we to condemn the beliefs of others? Show some judgement and tolerance for once. Sheesh.

  • @Arborverden Yeah you're an idiot...you only see the parts you want. Atheism is decision based on evidence and logic, Religion is power structure based on myth and hope without evidence. If religion wasn't so dangerous to the world and core of violence globally killing over what religion is the true religion of peace no one would care.

  • @dsrtdawg1 And you DON'T only see the parts you want? That's presumptuous. Everyone sees the world through tinted glasses, metaphorically speaking, no two people have the exact same viewpoints. As an agnostic, I can choose not to believe in God and give other people the right to believe in what they want. I leave them alone, they leave me alone. You are trying to force your views on other people, which is fine, but please be polite about it. You'd get more people to agree with you if you were.

  • @Arborverden you can. You can give them the right to spread their lies and decrepit beliefs until they gain critical mass and then exterminate you for not believing what they believe. That is the historical and modern message of religion.

  • @dsrtdawg1 But the trend is moving in the opposite direction. Religion is quickly becoming obsolete in today's world. There are very few religions in the world that preach extermination of non-believers. In the past, religious wars were common because that was society. Today, we live in a secular culture, and have the freedom to believe what we want. It seems that you are saying we should do the same thing. That we should exterminate religious people. Isn't what you are afraid of them doing?

  • @Arborverden So Jesus freaks et al should have the freedom to believe? But, the same people deny gay people the freedom of marriage because it offends their beliefs. I'm not calling for violence...I'm calling for people to quit giving faith any respect, it deserves none.

  • @dsrtdawg1 I am gay myself and I honestly just ignore religious people when they rant about how gays shouldn't marry. I don't respect their beliefs, but I do think they have the right to believe what they wish, we can't make anyone believe anything.

  • @Arborverden I'm straight and have more outrage? I'm of the firm position allowing others to believe destructive beliefs that harms others is cowardice. I say this not from a white bread US centric knowledge base but, from seeing the harm done around the globe by those whom believe in fantasy...FIRST HAND!!! Denying human rights is how it starts....killing others that don't believe is how it ends when you have some divine right and holy duty.

  • @dsrtdawg1 Well, that's why I hate it when extremist islam exists. But you just don't see how most of the wars in the world aren't attributed to religious reasons. They are political. If you don't wan't to respect others' right to believe what they wish, that's fine. But I will continue being tolerant of others with the expectation that they be tolerant of me. And if they aren't, then I ignore them and move on. It works.

  • @Arborverden :) we're on the same page finally. You need to take the final step to realize religion is a political structure not a divine. Respecting divine beliefs excuses the politics to a higher power and allows the political forces to divorce themselves of the negative consequences of their actions.

  • @dsrtdawg1 Perhaps you have a different idea of what the word respect means than I do. And that is where the disagreement stems from. I know that religion was started by people that wanted power. But, there were also good intentions involved. With most things there is some truth. Most people try to live morally according to their own standards.People have committed terrible crimes against society but their religion justified it.However, I still believe that moderate beliefs should be respected.
