Brenda toujours aussi superbe, avec cette voix, qui surprend par ses intonations. Brenda Lee, c'est une grande Dame, qui comme Elvis à toujours été égale à elle même. Grand Marci pour toutes ces chansons, ....
True...plus they did it again in the mid 70's with "L A Sessions" which failed to produce any hits. A Few years later in 1979, back in Nashville, she recorded the lp "Even Better" including the hits "Tell me what it's like"(for which she received her 2nd Grammy nomination) and "The Cowgirl and the Dandy".

This is the original grammy nominated original version of jot by Brenda recorded in 1968 (released in 1969). It was recorded in New York, one of the few times Brenda recorded outside of Nashville.
@maplover1 Thanks! I had the wrong recording date in the description. The label was sending her to different producers, trying to re-capture the magic. There was New Orleans with Pete Fountain, New York for Johnny and then Memphis for "Portrait". Three consecutive albums made outside of Nashville.
This is AH MAZING, Brenda is a truly talented lady!!! GO BRENDA!!! Just came to think about, what if today's 'stars' like Ke$ha and Britney Spears could have sung like this.... It would have been wonderful!!
@SelenaWildenstein Thanks for the comment. BTW - Happy Birthday to Brenda Lee! She stills sings better than today's "stars". Look up Taylor Swift trying to sing Brenda's "I'm Sorry". Yikes! I could not make all way through that video.
@MrCallipygous YES, I did, it was horrifying :S She should be ashamed, I stopped the video when she changed song, well I'm not even sure she changed song, I couldn't bare listening to it, UGH is all I have to say about that! and yeey, she was 66 on saturday :D It was back in this time when they had no auto tune and all that Sh*t to make bad voices sound ''good'' Like Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift that the GOOD music was made!!! I hope Brenda Lee comes out with a brand new album or something :)
I must have watched this a dozen times...Brenda was not in vogue in NZ in 1970, obscured by the likes of Melanie, the Doors, Beatles .... and I missed this total magic.
Thank you x a million youtube. Come do some NZ concerts Brenda.
@Timwgtn You are welcome and thanks for your comment. It's quite gratifying that this song, which was not a big hit even in the states, has only grown in stature over the years. It gives me hope that quality wins out in the end.
This song by Brenda Lee is proof of the old saying "When one door closes, another one opens". While this was her last hit on the Top 100 on the pop charts, it reached #50 on the country charts, and this song helped give birth to her second career as a country star, having country hits in the 1970s and eventually leading her to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. I think she's also a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I may be wrong.
Actually, a few songs charted after Johnny. "Nobody Wins" which reached #70 on the Hot 100 in 1973 was the last. The perennial "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" still pops up occasionally on the charts. It reached #76on the UK chart in 2008, just 16 months ago.
Brenda was inducted into the R&R HOF in 2002. She is the only female in both major halls.
I made the first upload on Youtube of this song, but it was removed after some months because of copyright problems. But maybe Youtube has new rules nowadays.
But it's still pretty difficult to upload anything that Warner owns and if you do, they often have the audio removed.
I think that the recording companies are missing out on a huge cash cow. Yes, the songs are popular, but what i truly enjoy is "seeing" the artists as they looked back then. The nostalgia and the imagery are potent and I "would" buy it, if it were available for purchase.
The record companies don't usually own the videos. They are often old TV shows. Sometimes there are compilation DVDs like those from the Ed Sullivan show, but more often they are unavailable, but copyrighted - a frustrating situation.
thanks for posting this. Reminds me of my dad picking me up after school in '69 in his old blue truck.
