When I first heard of FSM I actually thought It was a cool new religion, I thought you had to actually believe in FSM to be part of it before I researched it lol. There is a chance FSM has a future as an actual religion if people will support it. :)

Just got back from the Burning Man Festival, where we had set up "FSM Kamp" to hand out flyers, act piratey, and drink grog.
BM has had a pirate meme going for years, with lots of folks in costume and flying pirate flags. So, we visited those camps and did a lil pirate "scurvey" to determine how many pirates knew about their sacred duty to preach FSM. Results: about a third of the pirate folk knew of the FSM.
The point of the FSM parody is that the 'followers' act like its real just like any other religious person acts like their bible is real. For kicks I acted like a FSM follwer just to get reactions from people. It's amazing how people will really tilt their head to FSMists, and yet won't even bat an eye at a christian, catholic, or muslim, etc...
Depends. If people, who have accurate records of the day, were to look at the FSM, they'd probably also be aware of all the media coverage of the fact that it is a satire. However, if, say, aliens were to look at it and not fully understand our culture, they may think it was on par with christianity or some other religion.

One guy even took one of those small bibles and made a bunch of copies replacing "God" with "Flying Spaghetti Monster". There's enough ways for people these days to record their thoughts through books, computers, etc. for posterity that, no, no one in the future will truly think FSM was a real religion.
I guess that we could all work on some holy scripture.
We can use the bible as an historical template for this. Each Pastafarian can write one book, then an arbitrarily chosen panel can pick which ones to include as doctrine.
We can then promote thw Pastafarian Cook Book as a scripture and I think there are enough Atheists in the UK to get it recognised as a religion next census.

I think it's a lot like Landover Baptist. Yes, both FSM and LB are parody religions on the surface and should be regarded as humor, but there are also underlying messages within each of their "creeds" that should be noted, too, which allows skeptics to further question things and helps promote freer thinking as a result.

When I first heard of FSM I actually thought It was a cool new religion, I thought you had to actually believe in FSM to be part of it before I researched it lol. There is a chance FSM has a future as an actual religion if people will support it. :)

Well as far as it being a religion OR a parody it is both. Religion is conceived of man and the belief of the FSM is as much real as Christianity, or Catholicism, etc. Yet, it is a belief that is a parody of religion in general. No one can prove or disprove his existence, just like God. Belief in the FSM is a way for freethinkers to perceive religion in a metaphorical sense. Religion is pretty funny.

Does that make the religion invalid? Does it matter that it is a silly religion? No.
People dismiss it as satire but I think it has a deeper meaning, even deeper than Bobby Henderson realised. The FSM is a symbol of our freedom of speech and freedom of thought.
Look at any religion and you'll find crazier things than the FSM.

One day I wound up on Venganza and thought 'wow, this is pretty good stuff' before realizing I'd heard of it before. It's not that far out to think some people might fall for it. Well, Ashley, I've been a Pastafarian for at least five years now. In fact, I'm a devout member of the Rigatonian sect. We Rigatonians are very compatible with the Cabernet Savignonians of the Winerian Movement and often meet together in fine restaurants. My worship of the Flying Spaghetti Monster has not only expanded my mind but, oddly enough, it appears to have expanded my waistline also. I wonder why?

How can you call my religion a parody? It is the religion that is "Most likely to be true" according to many noted scientists.
The evidence is all around us. Evolution doesn't answer all the questions, but if we were intelligently designed we wouldn't have useless organs like the appendix. Just got back from the Burning Man Festival, where we had set up "FSM Kamp" to hand out flyers, act piratey, and drink grog.
BM has had a pirate meme going for years, with lots of folks in costume and flying pirate flags. So, we visited those camps and did a lil pirate "scurvey" to determine how many pirates knew about their sacred duty to preach FSM. Results: about a third of the pirate folk knew of the FSM.

Depends. If people, who have accurate records of the day, were to look at the FSM, they'd probably also be aware of all the media coverage of the fact that it is a satire. However, if, say, aliens were to look at it and not fully understand our culture, they may think it was on par with christianity or some other religion.

I guess that we could all work on some holy scripture.
We can use the bible as an historical template for this. Each Pastafarian can write one book, then an arbitrarily chosen panel can pick which ones to include as doctrine.
We can then promote thw Pastafarian Cook Book as a scripture and I think there are enough Atheists in the UK to get it recognised as a religion next census.

I think it's a lot like Landover Baptist. Yes, both FSM and LB are parody religions on the surface and should be regarded as humor, but there are also underlying messages within each of their "creeds" that should be noted, too, which allows skeptics to further question things and helps promote freer thinking as a result.
