  • If only she knew how much her muisc meens to me. . . There arn't words that can describe it, at least i cant!

  • I love the way she sings and play! She is gorgeous! Great in live!

  • This is erelavent

  • If I ever meet Vanessa I will drop 2 my knees and thnk her. This song describes me. I started the school year out gr8. Then I blew it with a guy then found another and I thought he was the 1. We did so much 2 gether. I never told any 1 bout our secrets. I kept them. Then I lost all my friends cause of mean cruel rumors ppl started bout me and other guys. I'm now called a slut whore and streetwalker more then ever. I lost the guy. My friends. Like the lyrics say.... " Hes my first mistake".....

  • Amazing

  • capture the youth---is what this album essence at...tell me any other album in the world does a better job and i will burn my LP now

  • @violetgirl1996 oh and.... vanessa carlton isn't like the other artists who abuse 'the word'.... she talks about it in a deeper meaning and looks at it in a girl's point of view who saw her first time as a mistake. the entire song is about her losing 'it' but learning from the experience...

  • idk if its about her... but it IS about a girl who loses her virginity foolishly in a car with a boy who she trusted; 'what i gave is yours to keep' is her virginity, obvi.... the secrets she talks about is the secret of her and what she did, and how her 'friends' never told.... and white means purity and innocence and she claims to never go back to the WHITE houses... its pretty blatant lol.

  • i love this song

  • elle est forte elle chante avec son coeur....

  • he totally didnt call after he dumped his load in her face!!!!

  • enough about underrated, who wants her to be standing along justin bieber ? then stop trying to dump her the overrated scheme

  • this song is completely about sex

  • @Psycho0891 NO! u stupid! vanessa does not waste time even thinking about making stupid songs bout that word

  • @violetgirl1996 My first time, hard to explain

Rush of blood, oh, and a little bit of pain

On a cloudy day, it's more common than you think

He's my first mistake... really dude you should actually listen to the song

  • @Psycho0891 2 things:

    1. i've heard the lyrics already nd i probably already know all the lyrics of all her songs- even her demo ones cos i'm a HUGE fan of hers. plus i've watched many of her interviews so i know it's not her style to write a song that's all about that word. that's only like a tenth of the meaning of this song. the deeper meaning in that part is she realised she had to grow mature

    2. i'm not a dude

    3. u r a psycho. haha get it

wait, that was 3 things but oh well

  • @Psycho0891

    this comment sucks

  • @Psycho0891 dude get a grip

  • @Psycho0891

Not really, she also talks about losing her friends as she grew older and experienced more, well that's how I view it.

  • Beautiful, beautiful song. <3

  • a series of wat

  • @AnimeCraze0 vignettes go google it ;)

  • Actually the way i see this song, it's about young girls that go to a Ballerina Camp, where Vanessa meets all these girls that she begins to trust with her life. She meets a boy that one of the friends like "the boy in the red shirt" Vanessa says she's probably way more Clever than the other girl. So she wins over the guy, Looses her Virginity, and regrets it. That's why she said she was going "way to fast" And there was a lot of pain growing with the thought of her loosing her virginity.

  • @Alexis12291 nah.

  • i love how she said its more common then you think

  • thumbs up if you in white houses with this song

  • So much talent

  • This song screams rape.

  • @wakeandbakesam1 ...In what world? She was willing

  • @SCnation that is very rude this song reminds me of sad times also so i would shut ur trap before i shut it for ya

  • I love this acoustic version of the song better then the real one<3

  • LOVE THIS SONG

It reminds me of my first lOvE...

Kinda sad and pathetic, I know, but still..

  • @demonangel1316 very.

  • She read my diary and write this song. Exactly. They were all faster than me... We did give each other up so easily.

  • Shes so adorable i just wanna kiss her!

  • Funny seeing this on VH1.

  • i love this song <3

  • i wish i had written this. its my life

  • Does anyone else find it interesting that she always introduces the song as about 'a girl' when it really is about her? Just thought it was interesting. But i can see why she would kinda keep that a secret.... kinda.... :)

  • This is the song I'm gonna sing 4 my talent show though I'm gonna change alot of the lyrics to reflect painful time emotionally for me... =\

  • @SweetHeart2756 what a bitch

  • @SCnation umm wat? did u just call me a bitch? cuz if ur gonna call anybody anything then u mite wanna have hell of a good reason =] just sayin' ;)

  • I'm not shure if i want her dancing or playing piano at a concert, either of them it's freakin awesome ...

  • This song is pure talent!

  • i really wanted more emotion in this, maybe cause i get so emotional over this song. idk

  • God will love u always, live to serve Hin

  • one of the people that can sing without autotune

  • her voice is soooo pretty,, she's also a great pianist and song writer,, all her songs are so honest

  • Great song

  • stunning. This song never fails to make me pensive and bring me to tears. Love Vanessa <3

  • ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥youre the best

  • Most singers that are famous don't have the talent like Vanessa has. Her songs have so much meaning and deserve to have more people listen to it. Oh ya This song is really catchy. I love it!

  • wooo u rock!

  • thank you for uploading! her and her songs are so beautiful<3

  • I like this much more than the album version

  • I dont think shes under-rated, MOST people dont know how to appreciate all sorts of music.

  • Luv dis song

  • She has such a baby voice it's so cute.

  • she sounds so amazing and sweet! <3

  • BAH! Are you deaf she said what the song means in the begging of the clip!

Lets just listen to this song and let the wonderful lyrics peirce your soul(cheesy:P)

So dont argue over what it means.

  • shes kinda hunching. but LOVE HER VOICE SOOOOOOO MUCH.

  • AMAZING VOICE!

  • She has an amazing live voice unlike a lot of overly popular singers today

  • i'd marry her right now.

  • i loooooove vanessa carlton!!!!!! ^_^

  • Vanessa Carlton is an amazing, under rated, beautiful artist. When she sings you know that the songs are from her experiences. You can feel the passion and emotion with her voice. Her music transcends age barriers because she sings of experience which we can all relate to; truly one of the great artists of our time.

  • SHE´S THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i really don´t know why she isn´t as famous as she deserves to be!!!!!!!!!i can´t get it!!!!

i love all of her songs<3333333333333333

  • She's an amazing singer♥

    <3 xoxo,

    Elisabeth

  • best version, i love this song

  • very lyrical.. one of my most favorite songs by her..

  • Love this song!!! :)

  • this is one of my favourite artists eva !

  • @ EJxosunshine

    Thank you.

    This songs so perfect. :]

  • Aw.

    ,-,

    The " white house "

    Is her innocents right?

  • @Myesha101 Yes, I love the way she uses it to symbolize. :(

  • @Myesha101 no white houses are places ballerinas go to practice ballet before they start ballet school to better their skills. its about her experience there and how it changes u, the bonds u form :)

  • @MakeItTogether Well technically it's about how she lost her virginity

  • @LeftyAcoustic Got proof of that?

  • @danimal97520 I've also read about it somewhere. Not so sure, but if you dig into the lyrics, it's quite straightforward. The White Houses could mean virginity. Artistic song, nonetheless.

  • @nerusonakuranu That's just the problem. Every person that says they have read about it always says "i've read about it somewhere..." but not one can pinpoint where. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. I'd just like to see where it was actually said, as opposed to having read it somewhere. Sounds more like an urban myth than anything. Great song. I'd just like to see where she said that.

  • @danimal97520 It is supposed to be about a ballet summer camp that she went to. All happening in the white houses. A lot of people wrote this on her video here, so I think it is true. If you think about it, it all fits.

  • Personally I think its about a girl who fell in love too fast, not just losing her virginity.

  • Love her... I can´t wait to her new album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Somebody knows somenthing about it???

  • she is really good live!

  • i'm surprised she transposed the song when it's already hard to play the original version. well i guess it's not hard for her.

  • Vanessa Carlton she is so sweet !

i love her so much !

  • I love how she feels extremely calm and comfortable singing about what the song is about, then to actually say it. [: I also love the way her fingers dance on that piano. :D

  • I love this song it's my fav.

  • i absolutely love her. this is an incredible song, <3

  • She's sooooooooooo amazing and like much better than R crappy pop stars like Miley Cyrus

  • @kmt3s3 holy crap amen to that!

  • i like this song even i did not know what it mean

  • AWESOME!

  • I love this from the bottom of my heart. Her music really touches my soul and I can connect to her songs on such a personal level. I hate how she's so underrated. She has ten times more talent than most of the popular pop artists right now. I wish everyone could appreciate her music as much as I do.

  • I feel bad the way there are many amazing artists out there... but yet we have people like Katy Perry who can't really sing...

  • my gorgeous cousin <333333333

  • OMG!!!! this is my like FAVORITE song ever! buy it on iTunes! its only .99 cents. <3

  • OMG!!!! this is my like FAVORITE song ever! buy it on iTunes! its only .99 cents. <3

  • favorite song ever

  • luv her voice

  • lol she was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!coooooooooooool

  • my all time favorite pianist/song writer! love her voice!! she is so talented...i wish i can be like her

  • She explains what the song is about. It's not about that, it just includes it. It's about growing up, and people tend to lose their virginity when they do so. That doesn't mean the entire song is about that.

  • @catdemonninja I agree dude

  • OMG SHES SOOOOOOOOO AMAZEING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HER VOICE IS NEVER EDITED CAUSE SHES THAT AMAZEING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! god i wish i was her :) lol i think this song might be about her time in college or something :)

  • wow, that's awesome!

  • wooow i love that girl i wish she was my girl

  • GOD(: this song reminds me so of me and my friends last summer. <3

  • i wanna be like her

  • Her voice is so sweet!

This song brings the tears into my eyes!

  • you can tell how she feels way more comfortable singing and playing than talking - shows shes a real person.

  • Sometimes she also looks comfortable talking, and you can see that she's a very funny person when she's that way. :). She's so great!!

  • @YetAnotherGateFan most people are a lot more comfortable just talking...

  • ahead of her times :)

  • this is bout friendship and how i feel about my friends

  • i sooo love this song!

but i dont understand quiet of all the song...

  • i fell in love .....so cute, so human...

  • Guys, the meaning of this song is not just about her loosing her virginity!!! It's about a girl who is trying to fit in and along the way that happens, but it's not what te whole song is about!!

  • @luvs2deep what really? do you know more of the explanation of this song then? i always thought it was about her losing her virginity because of the many youtube comments and the fact that MTV bleeped out the word "blood" when the video aired.

  • @ginnadas2118 It's about a ballerina going to the White Houses, where she makes friends, meets a guy she thinks she loves. She looses her virginity to him, and regrets it. Then eventually the others move on faster from their friendship, but she promises to not forget them or tell their secrets

  • ha un talento ed una passione straordinaria e dal vivo e' una grande performer ..... BRAVA

  • wow, she is talented in so many ways. she needs to come out with another album soon.

  • this is my fav song by her, it's beautiful. she's amazing!!!

  • when she sings she goes into her own world and takes you with her

  • Great voice and her piano skills are obvious. I have been playing for 12 years and you can always tell a good player by their fluid finger motions. Great artist overall!

  • she's such a great singer

and this song is just one of her best songs

    I also love:

    Nolita Fairytale

    Twilight

    San Francisco

    Who's to say

    and Ordinary Day

her voice is amazing and so unique

you hear it and know it just can be her

  • wow that is such a beautiful song that I hope one day that venessa would do a live HBO 2 hour concert of her singing her most beautiful songs

  • omg this is the best live performance of this song ive ever seen! shes so amazing!

  • as if! I doubt it was you! Loser! Why would anyone want to do to you?! People like you are retarded!

  • he was just kidding.. lol

  • great song with a great story

i cant see why this wasnt a hit :(

  • ohhhh and she's wearing black shagbands, which mean sex hahaha :)

  • this is amaaazing <3

and yeah, it's about her and her friends going somewhere, getting drunk and stuff, and then she has sex for the first time. :)

  • she plays really good and also has a nice voice!!

  • i love this song, the history is kinda sweet...

  • hwen she described the song she seemed uncomfortable so maybe she is talking about herself ?

  • oh, now I understand what she means by "what I gave is yours to keep"!

  • i cant believe she had sex she is so much better than that he drove her to it i think she used a condom... wierd

  • you don't even know if its about her It could be some random person from the streets or a friend for all we know!

  • know i read about it it was her

  • she's extraordinary

  • Great performance by an incredibly under-rated artist.

  • So true.

  • Gotta love this song =]

  • she sings it even better when its live.. wow

  • I tought this song was about a summer romance x)

  • it is... for the first half.

  • im doing a cover like this for my talent show..

    im so nervouss haa

  • Guys, the meaning of the song is said at the begining by Nessa. IS about loosing your virginity, but not ONLY that. There are more events, not just that...

"Rush out blood, oh, and a little bit of pain" that's the only mencion.

  • i thought that it was about that for a while cause every1 was like 'its about losing your virginity!!' and then i was thinking that most of it doesnt sound like its about that. spin the bottle where u lose your virginity? i dont think thats realistic. : )

  • um, maybe she's talking about playing spin the bottle. lol. [ okay, enough of my silly imagination ] ^__^

  • and "what a gave is your too keep"

  • no its what I gave is your to keep. Because she gave him her virginity and now she cant get it back.

  • thats what I meant. I replied to etitaa... adding on to her comment.

  • The song is NOT about losing your virginity! That is only one sentence in the song, and it seems to be the only part that people can remember. If you actually really listen to the words, the song is telling a story about MANY events that a girl goes through INCLUDING losing her virginity, but that is not the main point of the song.

  • I agree. I can't believe that nobody else saw it this way. This song is about a series of events, not everything she sang about is happening at once.

  • it is about losing virginity? i thought it was but it is? lol.. lovely

  • yeah it is

  • im sorry, im realy dumb, i STILL dont understand what the meaning of this song is.... and please dont tell me its about losing virginity!!

  • it is about that

  • that but also about her being a ballerina, going to a ballet camp hence the 'jenny being a dancer'., and because she was unsure of herself and stuff she felt she had to give up her virginity, which is a mistake. Things change too quickly and everything gets messed up...something like that.

  • Beautiful.
