  • Lovely Duet.....

  • would have loved being there and listen to these men playing such great music

  • TO ALL OF YOU WHO CANT HEAR OUT OF THE RIGHT SIDE, PULL YOUR HEADPHONE JACK OUT ABOUT HALF-WAY. ENJOY ( :

  • is there a reason why i cant hear this thru my right side for my headset their not broken i checked on different songs

  • @aout02 ....could be because it was captured on an old video camera that did not have stereo sound

  • I use to not like folk music until I discovered Irish music

  • who would dislike such awsome music if you dont like it dont dislike it just leave

  • Great stuff.

  • This make me want into an adventure

  • Wonderful unison playing! Thank you for this!

  • nothing like irish fiddle music <33

  • Great to hear the melody ...not ornamented to destruction!

  • thats grand love the music thanks for posting xxx

  • sheet music please =D

  • @metalheadlass

I'm just the Yank who listened. No clue about the sheet music!

  • You guys are really great. Y'all are bound for success in life.

  • I really like fiddles. You guys are amazingly awesome.

  • Great!...I am learning to play this on the Jaw Harp.

  • Great!

  • Nicely played, but It would be great if these could break out of that joggy sort of rythymn into a reelly reely one, for the second one. Please let me know if I'm being silly, or it's not the done thing - or whatever.

  • @bertwindon The tunes they're playing are slides (12/8 rhythm) , not reels, so they don't play in a "reely" (4/4) rhythm.

It would be technically possible to follow a slide with a reel, but I've never heard it done. I'd need to look at some Irish Set Dancing books to tell you how common it is to follow a slide with a Reel.

  • @Milner Well thanks for that !. Guess what, I've been trying to play all sorts of tunes for 30 ?! years or so, and I never really understood what a "Slide" is. Can you point to an example of a "Slip-jig". I might have one, but I'm not sure.

  • The most famous slip-jig is probably "Rocky Road to Dublin". "The Butterfly" is another popular one. Slip jigs are 9/8, "regular" jigs are 6/8.

  • @Milner

Well More thanks for that. No-one has ever been able to put me straight on that. I know The Butterfly" and of course "The rocky road .." is the same odd rythm.

Now I must hear these slides once more. Ta !

  • Poor lovely Seamus. Old buddy, thanks for the times.

  • nice! i wonder how long they've been playing?

  • Think that I'll be able to play like this one day? =D

I just love listening to this!! Its brilliant =D

  • Are there any sheets avalible ?

It just feels like "MUST BE ABLE TO PLAY THAT GREAT AS WELL XD".

Serious they play great, *Starts to practice very hard*

  • You can find the first 2 slides in Matt Cranitch's fiddle tutorial, "The Irish Fiddle Book: The Art of Traditional Fiddle-Playing". It is available on Amazon.

  • awesome.. your both in perfect sync!!

  • especially the feet ;D

    thats true skill!

  • This is great. I love old talented fogies that are really passionate about folk. The problem is there aren't enough of us young ones carrying on the tradition. How many teenagers do you see playing Irish folk?

  • i would really like to! think i could on my piano? i just don't have a fiddle

  • Many. If you go to any folk festival then the amount of young people is very impressive.

    always nice to see :)

  • Well im a 16 year old heavy metal rocker who plays in a rock band and solo's, but i love kicking back with the acoustic and playing some Irish jigs and reels

    =) =) =)

  • Yea I know, thats great, but put the metal and the folk the other way round and thats uncommon. Not enough have the passion for folk

  • pbdude725...

there is percussion in irish music....just different styles but most have percussion.

  • Happy St. Patrick's Day!

  • This is not a polka; it's a slide

  • Wonderful!*****!

  • Fantastic!!! Well done!!

  • The instrument to which you are referring is a bodhran

  • this is part of the "high called cap" set, very basic tune, lovely though

  • u guys are in such perfet sinc, i love this.

    XD keep playing!!

  • my uncle plays every CHRISTmas and new years xD reminds me of home thank you for posting

  • In what key do they play?

  • Not sure, but it seems like they start in D and later in G, at about 0:50

  • very nice, i'm tryin to teach myself a little fiddle and it is not an easy thing,

  • The chap in the foreground is my good friend Seamus Creagh from Cork. He regularly comes over to Brittany and treats us to his great music. The second fiddler might be Matt Cranitch. Thanks a lot for this video.

  • BRAVISSIMI!!!!!!1

  • Perfect..thanks!!

  • great! would be even better with some percussion...

  • no percussion in irish music unless u r referring to a boaron, which is not so much percussion as much as another instrument, also considering this is a polka a boaron wouldn't sound good at all.....

  • Rather vague. Nice. Peacfull. Contempt.

  • i like it best music in the world

  • I wanna bring my violin to Ireland sometimes :) I heard it's a REALLY good place to go ESPECIALLY the castles

  • Hup the old slides!!

  • very well done, id like to hear these boys play a reel. together with a bodhran.

  • very good, enjyable...TOTALLY!!

  • Well done ,2 brilliant musicians.

County Clare where I come from is renowned for musicians like these. Every County has it's own individual style. That was really sweet though.....Bualadh Bos

  • Magnificent! Perfect! In tune with eachother to a T! BRAVO!

  • Great duet playing. They're so in synch, their bowstrokes look like synchronized swimmers.

  • This is wonderful! Amazing playing, great quality sound. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

  • wonderful stuff. i love this.

  • hello preaty nice job on it. Just a question, i been seeking a fiddle song but i don't remember exactly the mame of it, it is something like "in memory of Harvey Mc..... ' . Do you know what is it?

  • Do you mean "In Memory of Herbie MacLeod?"

  • thank you so much that is the one that i been looking for

  • Ey the video is great!

But can anyone send me a message were i can learn to play the violin Irish Fiddle

    style??

  • Wow, I liked that very much.

  • NICE KERRY TUNES - JIM.

  • That's a fine fiddle and even finer fiddlin.

  • What are the names of the reels on this set

  • They aren't reels, they are slides....but I can see how you could get confused...base 4 and all...

the first one is Denis Murphy's...I forget the names of the others

  • Good Job Boys.

  • beautiful :)

  • i really wish i could play a violin...and it would be just greath if i could make music like this to..

  • reminds me of the Hobbits from lord of the rings. lol

  • If you would like to learn the fiddle you might try "The Irish Fiddle Book" by Matt Cranitch, (playing on the left). I have found it very helpful, particularly in the bowing.

What is the name of the third tune that Matt and Seamus are playing?

  • The third tune is called "Where is the Cat?" or "Hush the Cat"

  • If I weren't Greek I'd want to be Irish...I love Greek Island fiddle but when I hear that Irish fiddle OHHHHHH BOY ...GOD bless Ireland

  • Lovely!

  • But who are these guys?

  • The guy on the left is Matt Cranitch....playing with Seamus Creagh on the right

  • @heidski talent

  • banjodeluxe, if you want to learn violin, then get a teacher. I really suggest you that, or else you will learn false techniques, and end up not able to play everything on it. I play Irish folk myself on violin, and if I didn't had basics, it would be very hard for me.

  • love it! what is the song called?

  • I Agree.. Can't Stop Tapping My Feet.. Doign All My Old Irish Dancing Moves.. Love This Music.. :D

  • just got told to stop tapping my feet by me misses in the other room!!! grrr laminated flooring, this is great i love this music and could listen to it all day long

  • I had a question, I'm 15 and starting to play violin; how does he hold the instrument out in front of him like that? doesn't he need to support it with his shoulder so that he can move his left hand up and down? just wondering, thanks

  • ummm, his shoulder ISSSS supporting the violin, he's just using his shoulder REST to make it more comfortable, in case u didnt have one, look closely and u can see it

  • Sorry but i'm picky, they're playing fiddle not violin. No offence. =)

  • A fiddle and a violin are the same thing.

  • physically a fiddle and violin are the same, but fiddle is more a STYLE of music such as celtic and bluegrass, while a violin is usually refering to classical music

  • Thats what I was going to say. =)

  • This is commonly true. However, there are instruments that are now made specifically for fiddle playing as the technique involved is different from classical violin. An example would be the action of the strings or the angle of the bridge.

  • your right...:)

  • i love this very whats the word...jolly! :o)

  • Brilliant!!!!!!

  • Whew! Amazing set. Several people have identified the first two slides (Denis Murphy's and the Brosna). The last slide is Where is the Cat? or Hush the Cat. (or about 8 other names)

  • LOVE IT!!!

  • makes me happay ^^!

  • oh. i've just started learning to play, but i hope i can do it that way someday!

  • lovely set lads. how can i get tune details?

  • Speachless! Bravo from Austin

  • wow i wish i could play it :)

  • bag pipes and Irish fiddle songs are the shit i love all as long as they keep it Celtic

  • That's Seamus Creagh on the right. Brilliant playing.

  • the guy on the left is Randal Bays? looks like it, hes awesome

  • The guy on the left is Matt Cranitch....playing with Seamus Creagh.

  • Love them slides. I never get tired of playing them. Thanks for posting this.

  • absolyutely delightful! i could listen to this all day

  • Celtic fiddle is the best!

  • If I look well, this is in one of the hotels in Ennis, Clare. Or do the hotels look the same everywhere?

  • that's mint!

  • good on ya guys some of the best fiddle work i heard

  • son espectaculares

  • i love the way your legs bounced together in beat.

  • First one is a.k.a The Dark Girl in Blue.

  • Great stuff from the Kerry fiddle tradition. Really enjoyed this. The first tune is indeed Denis Murphy's, the second one I know as The Brosna but not sure of the third.

  • this is sooooooo good!

  • you are so good

  • Awesome! Thanks!

  • For the past 45 odd years I have known the first tune as Maggie Pickens, I learnt it off a record (on Tradition, USA)played y either Paddy O'Keefe or Dennis Murphy. Enjoyed this very much. Thank you.

  • Brilliant timing. Reminds me of real early Matt Cranitch Thanks for posting

  • Wonderful to these players. Wonderful. Thanks for posting this.

  • exquisite sliabh luachra form! powerful shtuff.

  • That's Seamus Creagh closest to us and Matt Cranitch a bit further away. The first tune is Denis Murphy's Slide, but I don't recognise the second tune.

  • The second one is The Brosna

  • amazing!
