  • Steve and Joey are great support team for Jim. Steve, was that interlude that Mr. Hall played before you solo by design or did he forget to give you a solo? BTW very nice bass solo.

  • god i love you tube. great post. shear melody. unreal ideas and he continues to create such melodic interesting reharms. huge inspiration much thanks jim.

  • totally wonderful!

  • as always great playing steve

  • this and exactly this is why I love youtube!! thank you for allowing us to view this!!

  • Incredible! Always been. Check out his recordings with Bill Evans. They compliment each other perfectly and have very similar styles. He may have the greatest feel of any jazz guitarist that's ever played. In my book for sure.

  • @dpcon

He doesn't play licks .He composes while he plays. I'm sure he demonstretes arare type of player. most today are basically not really about the music 's roots. Jim has stated he digs BB King. That saysa lot. Also, in an interview he remarked that he "saw God", after witnessing George Benson play. i dig him alot. He reminds me of all in one package type of player.I like that. He is ahead of most on their instruments conceptually and creatively. He is supremely inspired.

  • @jazz1bro "...He composes while he plays." As does every jazz musician in the world. I'm not saying that Jim Hall isn't the man, because he is. I'm just saying that if you're playing something you've memorized, you've not really playing jazz.

  • @Hoopermazing

I was just supporting what you said.

  • the one time i saw jim hall was by chance. i was walking down the street next to a theatre and saw he was playing that night. to my amazement it hadnt been sold out! he was playing with scott colley in a duo setting. great show.

  • Thanks for posting this wonderful video. Your recordings with Jim Hall are a real inspiration.

  • I was priviledged to meet Steve LaSpina in NY in June. He is one of the most generous and kindest people I have met in the 25 years I have been listening to and playing jazz. If you are ever planning a trip to NYC, I highly recommend dropping him an email and trying to catch up with him. I saw him playing a weekend gig in the village and he was so giving of his time and experience. He is living proof of the fact that it is often the best players whoare most willing to share their time and ideas.

  • Any body know if that's a Wan Bernadel bass that Steve Laspina is playing in this clip?

  • No this is my other bass which is a bass that has a Morelli stamp inside of it. It has been in my family for about 60 years. I will be posting a clip from the ISB convention soon and on this clip I will be playing by Wan Bernadel .

  • Fantastic Clip. Thanks!
