The only way a new update is going to match this is for Apple to give up their stranglehold on keeping the device locked down i.e. no open source and no background processes. They won't give all that easily. I doubt they'll make Safari multitasking by the end of the year.

And they CAN'T do stuff like offscreen gestures with the existing phones.
