I love Dragon Quest. Looking forward to Part VI and IX coming to Europe. Final Fantasy is great, too (VI & VII are the best) but it has also many bad moments. In a Dragon Quest-game EVERY moment is just enjoyable and pure fun. Best JRPG-Series of all times!!!
i really wanna try this, i just don't like 1st person games, and while i love DQ in the towns and the great overworlds, the battles really hurt it for me
The game isn't entirely first person, just the battles. And really, it's not that drastic. It's not like you're playing a first-person-shooter or anything.
My only complaint is the battle system. I would prefer there to be some sort of action scene when you attack instead of a sound and the damage popping up. But I bet I'll get used to it. =P

Get it, Dragon Quest was the RPG that inspired Square to make Final Fantasy. Erdrick, one of the Heroes of Dragon Quest, is even buried in the Elf Town of Final Fantasy 1 on the NES. Eventually Square liked Enix so much they saved them from bankruptcy, and so became Square-Enix.
If you like final fantasy even a little bit, youll love this game.
I'Il have to agree with you. DQ was the first RPG of its kind. It was the "Wolfenstein 3d" or "Super Mario Bros" of its Genre. Every rpg since took a page from DQ.
Even Squaresoft was so addicted to Dragon Quest, they made Final Fantasy for the NES, and even had Erdricks grave in Elftown.
Id love to see a DS remake of DQ I, II, and III. I still have the original NES carts of those games

Do some research, Dragon Quest X is coming to the Wii. Also, DQ is about the story, not bishie little boys or female versions of Cloud and their angst. There are a few FF games that I would rank with DQ (1, 5, 6, and 9 out of the main series and Tactics from the side story). Other than them, they're mediocre in story. They have to look pretty and that's their only selling point. Of course, this is my opinion, so take another year to reply back.

I am not saying final fantasy sucks I do think it is a good series of games, but DQ has been around since the 1980's as well and it stays very traditional like the original games. I dont rly care about what you say these games still sell and they are great to have in your collection...

I'm a graphics whore myself, but that sprite work is beautiful. The animations flow so smoothly and it fits DQ incredibly well. I give it a thumbs up on the graphics.
The battle system also stays to the original DQ games, i'd much prefer it so you could see the heroes animate and attack, but either way it's good. Overall, thumbs up for it.
i wish they would make a traditional dragon quest game for the wii and maybe even the other platforms they sort of failed with swords but the game looks great and Dragon quest 9 for Ds AND Wii would sell hugely in japan and even America maybe because it's kinda of hard to find dragon quest 8 in game stores lately

Not saying they're good compared to todays 3D standards, but they still look good in my book. Love the pixelated characters and objects... Not to mention the ground on the overworld!
I grew up playing pixelated games to most of the part. Enjoyed them even more than the 3D games I had for Playstation and Nintendo 64.
