Yeah the RS4 would be able to catch up at the corners since it is a lighter car but it would still not be able to lap the track faster because it lacks power compared to the CTS-V. Both AMGs and M series doesnt mean theyre modded (well sorta) but these cars are merely "higher-end stock model" of already existing base models that you could buy at your local car dealership. In this case, only the BMW is modded because its already a "high-end model (M-series)" with a Kellener Sport Performance Kit. AMGs and M-series are the best money can buy. The good part is you can make these car even more powerful with modded kits like Brabus (Mercedes) or Kellener (BMW).

The M5 may have a V10 but theE63 has 1200cc more than the M5 so its more torquy despite that its not much faster.
The M5 handles better and yes neither is designed for a race track but with 500bhp a cars handling is important.

On twisty or country roads the handling matters. Im not saying the M5 will handle like a S2000 but handling does help.
Only real difference between the two is that the M5 can have a manual gearbox but its down to preference.
Its hard choice but i just might pick the AMG.

Let me help you because I can see you are a little slow (dropped much while you were young?) - 325is is a sportier model than the regular 325i (suspension upgrades); an M class Merc is an SUV. I raced my friend in his 325is on our way to the beach (twisty as hell road) and I was able to get away from him. So, once again, stop talking about tracks, because in REAL life, you never go there, and neither do 99.9% of the brand owners. Merc is plenty good. The end.

The correct nomenclature for the vehicle within that range is ML which you failed to specify with what ML you supposedly beat the 325is . For a stock 65 to hand with a modded M5, giving up nearly a 1000 pounds despite its 100hp advantage, I'd say its doing pretty well. If the M5 has modded over its 500 to say 600 hp, then it SHOULD have kicked the 1000 pound heavier car by a mile. Now, go to Kleeman, get the S65 ECU mod (nothing else necessary) and watch the 65 spank this M5... kinda like your uncle spanks you when you don't blow him the right way. Haha.

1. Curb weight on the E90 M5 is 4012 lbs = 2 tons
2. Curb weight on the S65 AMG is 4890 lbs = 2 1/2 tons that's 878 more pounds the S65 has to make up for.
weight makes a big difference , don't just assume because a car has more cylinders and more turbo's its always going to beat a car with a a lot less power/torque.

The only reason Merc fans think their better are for two reasons: 1) more bhp because of large 6.2L/6.3L V8 engines vs. smaller 5.0L V8 engines OR 2) based upon prestige. Points against Merc: 1) BMW can also produce large 6.2L/6.3L engines like Merc - then we'll see bhp levels compared then. If Cadillac can do it for their CTS-V, so can BMW! Both AMGs and M series doesnt mean theyre modded (well sorta) but these cars are merely "higher-end stock model" of already existing base models that you could buy at your local car dealership. In this case, only the BMW is modded because its already a "high-end model (M-series)" with a Kellener Sport Performance Kit. AMGs and M-series are the best money can buy. The good part is you can make these car even more powerful with modded kits like Brabus (Mercedes) or Kellener (BMW).
