Remember when Elway beat my Browns in the 80's and I hated the dude. Amazing how when he retired I can't remember any athlete I respected more. True class. Elway, you are the GOAT.
wow! even i got teary eyed watching this and im from minnesota! elway will always be my favorite quarterback! im excited that im getting an orange crush elway jersey from ebay soon!!!!
This is touching....the warrior walking off the field of battle never to return again; knowing nothing else except competition. It's as if you'd died but you're still living. I sometimes envy people like this until I understand where there are the highest of highs, inevitably there will be tremendous lows as well. God speed to all true warriors of the gridiron.
Nice to show your true emotions! Your right Dennis24ish,there is nothing to be ashamed of in a grown man crying! Was really happy for you John to reach the top of the mountain! Congrats! You deserved it after working and playing so hard for it!
I miss watching him McCaffery,Sharpe and Smith pick teams apart with TD running wild ther the real team of the 90's in my opinion and He is the Greastest QB EVER!!!
theres nothing wrong with a grown man crying ecpecially when ur passionate about somthing. thank for everything John. ALL OR US BRONCOS FANS LOVE YOU!!!!
Put Elway in San Fransisco and Montana in Denver. Nothing changes in San Fransisco, Montana is retired after 5 years from getting hammered every game. The Best. Period.
@jamin121884 you are right put montana in Kansas city, and he retires after prove that he depends on the team, but in the other case denver depends on John elway for 16 years
Elway is the best QB just for one thing Montana won superbolws but he don´t have alot of record, Marino have the records but we didn´t won a superbowl and Elway have it both, and he never had a good team like montana or marino, he did it alone the most part of the time, but went he won the superbolw is when he undertand that as a leader he need to share responsabilities to all the team, an not to charge with all the weight of the team
I'm a die hard Washington Redskins fan. And it was very gratifying for me as a Skin's fan to watch them beat the great John Elway in the 1988 Superbowl. Having said that, I also miss John Elway. he played the game with such passion. And I was glad as well to finally see him get over the hump in 1998 when he beat Green Bay for the Superbowl. And won the last of two against Atlanta. You're one of the greatest Elway.
I'm a huge Bears fan but I have to admit that I choked up when Elway said he could'nt do it phisically anymore.. Chitown will alway have love for John Elway!!
When Elway said "I just can't do it physically anymore"...man, that just makes me so sad to hear, even ten years later. It's a shame that even the greats begin to break down physically as they get older. :(
Boy did I hate Elway when they played the Redskins in the the 88 SB, and boy did I cry eleven years later when he retired. And in between my opinion of him changed 180 degrees. The greatest quarterback ever.
this is so sad. i remember these moments. watching teh great ones leave one by one. elway, marino, young, montana, aikman. now i fear the day when i gotta watch brady and manning and favre do the same thing. the league is at an all time low in quality qb;s ther's only 3
Tony Romo? You mean the guy that can't win the big one?
He doesn't have the mental fortitude to do what Elway did for 15 years. Guy's got immense talent but doesn't have what Johnny 7 had. Thanks but try again.
All it meant is that Romo is a quality qb... it was a response to the msg above mine, stating that theres "only 3" quality qbs in the league now.. Relax, I know he's not Elway (yet)
I've seen it a few times.. Against Detroit 2 seasons back, at Buffalo on Monday night two seasons back (I was @ that game), against Washington... He's done it before, trust me.. I know he hasn't done it as much as Elway, but Elway played like 15 years, Romo's got 2 under his belt... so its not really a fair comparison.
This still chokes me up...man, this is hard to watch. I'll never forget watching this in the dining hall at College, all the Broncos fans gathered around. It was like your hero died. God bless John Elway...
The darkest day in Denver. This video breaks my heart, especially when he says "I just can't do it physically anymore" and chokes up. It gets me going. I remember watching this press conference with my dad when it first aired. I was in shock and I turned to my dad and he had tears running down his face. The only time I can remember him crying is when John won the SuperBowls
denver's legend. john elway!!! you were so lucky to have the city of denver stick by you all those years. the nfl today should look back on your history and see what happens when you stick with a true leader. the teams today are shuffling guys in and out the door way to fast!!!!
What Elway should have said was... "I'm sorry I couldn't hear you, my Superbowl rings were making too much noise!"
