The heat is delivered by Bunsen type burner. It's made from water pipe I got from the hardware store (I used black pipe in the hot areas, no zinc). I've seen many like it on the web.
The furnace is a garbage can on the out side and a smaller one on the in side used as a form for cement mixed with pearlite and fireplace mortar used for the insulation.
Now as for the time to melt. I really don't know, maybe about forty minutes?

Nice video! Is your burner a Reil type design? How long did it take you to reach pouring temperature?
