  • actually that is right Nas said sitting still in the chair like my conception, meaning he questions who he become and @vridaw the lyrics are right.

  • Those first 10 seconds or so always puts me on the verge of crying. Memories of my mom dying four months after this album was released. Actually, I think Nas' mom died that year too.

  • I hope I will deserve this particular track being played at my very own funeral while staying real to myself.

  • thats real rap

  • yo cheack this verse right hereuh uh yo, they plan was to knock me out the top of the game but i overstand there truth is all lame i hold cannons that shoot balls of flames right in they fat mouth and i carve my name..

  • this is my number 1 Nas song..beat and lyrics outta this world

  • @vridaw

can you make a lyric video for Nas song deja vu?? that song is too real!!!!!

  • yea i think he says since the project bits of crack in my socks sleep but i also hear bench so iono...fuck it...its fire!

  • My cruising song!

  • women and fast cars can poison the life of a rapstar-nasir jones

  • one of the best records of all time..Stillmatic=nas rebirth=one of the best hip hop albums of all time.. jay elec up to bat next.

  • Smoking a bowl to this song was incredible, thanks Nas.

  • the best songs are always the one's with the little views.

  • i love when he says i saw a dead bird flyin through a broken sky

  • @havoc11214 : Powerful line

  • hey NAS .........YOU'RE THE MAN !!!

  • 3 guys are NOT da men.( and yes, I meant men.)

  • since the projects, bags of crack, in my socks sleep. !!! that`s what he said.

  • @melodygrant He said "Since the projects BITS of crack in my socks sleep".

  • @daggerrrrrr he actually said "since the project "bench",

    cracks in my sock, sleep..."

  • Since the project bench with cracks in my socks sleep

  • My favorite rapper, my favorite track by him. This is like my anthem. I hope I'll earn right to sing 'You're da Man' phrase to myself someday. Let it be even in coffin...

  • i always thought that @ 1:10 he said "just a ghetto child trying to learn to capture the streets" as in the streets attention and own them and capture the streets in his music

  • The line leading up to your questin marks is "If I ever make a record i'll take a check and put something away for a rainy day to make my exit, but look at me now 10 years deep since the project bench with crack in my socks sleep" one of my favorite lines

  • There was a lot of prophecy in this song for me.That what I love about the God ,his ability to almost see into the future. He is a very wise man.He opens up his mind and ain't afraid to think outside of the box.

  • Proper nostalgia then.. aint listend to this song since like 2003 or somethin

  • 2 ppl arent evn close to bein d man

  • @ 1:05 Look at me now, 10 years deep. SINCE THE PROJECT BENCHES, CRACK ROCKS IN MY SOCKS SLEEP...

  • Think About it' after this album & Ether- THE ROC DIED!! NAS killed them all.

  • he killed this shit, one of my favorites of all time, "your the man"

  • man this song touches a soft spot all the times i was down it made me feel better and made me realise things aint that bad ;P

  • nas is hands down the best rapper alive.

  • "your arms are to short to box with God"

  • nas. you're da man!

  • This is a Jayz diss,

  • @freemasonxxx no it was not a diss song....It was to prove a point to everyone in the rap game

  • @Jay Its a DISS SONG to JayZ..letting him know he is the man of hip hop. The entire first verse was directed at Jayz. "There plan was to knock me out the top of the game" referring to TAKEOVER. "Came in with my style so I Fathered you, I kept changing on the world since Barbeque..NOW you wanna hang with niggas I hung with Fuck bitches I hit.." Jayz came into the game with a song called In my lifetime and Dead President which sample nas VOICE LYRICS and STYLE. Jayz slept with Nas ex as well.

  • @freemasonxxx this was a jayz joint trust, its a sly one. fame went to there heads, came in with my style,

  • the name of this song is supposed to be '' nas is the man ''

  • Nas = KING !

  • your arms to short to box with god...dont kill soloist ...only kill sqauds......WOW.. best track by the king NAS

  • Comment removed

  • is some of the first verse toward Jay-Z??

  • i cant belive that nas didnt get more views than this man... wow, i was thinkin 80 millionish bro... guess people really didnt feel nas like i felt him. I still say, u the best of all time bro, wit great lyrics an hard beats, an u always had a clear msg man. cant say that about alot of these screamin ass rappers, thats just doin this shit for the money, then they disapear; much love nasir!

  • @DueceD118

had to log into my youtube account to thumbs up your post.

  • "But look at me now, 10 years deep

Since the project bench with crack in my sock 'sleep"

"Your arm's too short to box with God

I dont kill soloists, only kill squads"

  • @mvdec 10x!

  • This song makes me feel like he was at his peak when he wrote this

  • what i really like about this track is the fact that niggas dont get it...nice diss God's son

  • The great 1

  • This song is so dope but i still hate that stupid fuckin hook

  • Lol he was so high he saw a dead bird flying though a broken sky thats some good shit i neva heard nobody say sum like that

  • @cripbuddz come on.. halftime, take it in blood, the set up, ny state of mind, the message.. i can go on and on cuz

  • @doggpound187 ya but u gotta admit this song sucks ass

  • @cripbuddz sure, they're the most radio friendly , but this one is just pure art...

  • @cripbuddz wow you must be some bright guy... chosing these songs in spite of NY State of mind, half time, life's bitch, the world is yours (which was often considered as the best song in hip hop OAT", ether, rewind, money oveer bullshit, made you look.... i could go on and on, like get down.... those you choose are def not the bests... you're lame if you ain't getting that!

  • @JoePesciVSBillyBatts dude i already said the world is yours u fuckin idiot. i like lifes a bitch and ether but i dont think those were his best work so if u dnt get that u wack nigga!

  • @cripbuddz First of! I am not a nigga... but whatever, Second of all I did get what you said ... I got that your best songs of nas are:2nd Childhood, the world is yours, deja vu, street dreams ( remix ) , rule , one mic. what I am saying tho is that you seriously have bad taste as i could name 40 songs of nas that are better than the majority of the ones you choose...

  • @JoePesciVSBillyBatts i know more songs than that and i have good taste in music. if u like this song then you have bad taste in music u fuckin scrub.

  • @cripbuddz in your opinion you think its his worst but i think it's one of his best, it's got lots of meaning behind it and you can tell it's really how he felt at the time he was spittin the song

  • Pure heat

  • At 2:19 you have it saying "In the mirror, sittin still in the chair like my conception". What he actually said was "sittin still in the chair like Mike Concepcion". Mike Concepcion is an original crip nigga from back in 69, 70's, who is confined to a wheel chair.

  • @SoLoIsTSBoi There is a lot of mistakes in my vids, as I never wrote the lyrics for them (just googled them) - Usually when I watch them back, I notice a lot of mistakes, but that is one I would have never caught. Thanks for sharing - it really changes the meaning to that line.

  • @vridaw What album/mixtape is this from?

  • @MrNemy86 Stillmatic - Released in 01

  • @SoLoIsTSBoi good info man

  • @SoLoIsTSBoi wow,u on it my dude,focused

  • @SoLoIsTSBoi

Your absolutely rite. And that is a dope lyric that needed to be pointed out.

  • BIG UP!!

  • As to what he said in the ?? mark part before the first hook..."but look at me know 10 years deep since the projects bench with crack in my socks asleep"..*-0

  • I Personally Like When He Said " It Was Clear Why The Struggle Was So Painful Metamorphosis This is What I Changed To And God Am So Thankful"

  • Umm its "so i can get old my flesh rot away"

  • i hear this song in my dreams and nightmares!

  • this is my shxt .

  • Damn dope song! i love it :]

  • "Wish I could flap wings and fly away

To where black kings and Ghana stay

So I could get on my flesh right away

But that'll be the day when it's peace

When my gat don't need to spray

When these streets are safe to play"

Best part of the song. So powerful.

  • @gtboy453 *so I can get on my flesh rot away

  • @gtboy453 "Wish I could flap wings nd fly away, to where black kings in Ghana stay, so I could get all my flesh rot away, but that will be the day when it's peace, when my gat don't need to spray, when these streets r safe to play"

  • One of my favorite NAS joints. The words the come out of this mans mouth are timeless.

  • Song is def underrated.

  • @KarenKardashian True that, i be listening to that song for hours

  • God is good, he's blessed me to be a strong, smart, resilient, and reasonable good man. Never give up...

  • "The chair became a king's throne my destiny found me."

    shyt was hot

  • high smoking so much lye

i saw a dead bird flying through a broken sky " nas madd creative he one of the greatest and he still alive

  • It's SUGAR MAN! By sixtoo rodriguez. Some edu-ma-cation for the masses.

  • JOJO THE MAN~

  • what about:

The church on my hands was a preachers blood

i swallowed dirt in a graveyard in need of love

i vomit blunt residue i want revenue, dreaming

and pump lead at you devils tryna take my freedom

it drove me crazy the day i drank my own urine, my own semen with a 9 to my brain

but wait a sec, give me time to explain

women and fast cars and, diamond rings could poison a rap star

was suicidal, high smoking so much lye

i saw a dead bird flying through a broken sky

  • i actually like that.

  • The lyrics you have ??? next to.. After listening a few times i think he says "Since the project bench with crack in my sock sleep"?

  • check out the STILL LIQUOR BLUES remix album its crazy.

  • Man this song is so deep, I'm sure this is one of his best songs. And you are right about the underrated part. But I still think Doo Rags is his best song.

  • nas is the BEST

  • why does this hit real niggas in the soul?

  • One of my fav nas songs.

  • i havent heard this song since the 6th grade!

  • Anyone else noticed the Jay Z disses? When he talks about hanging with niggas he hung with and bitches he used to fuck.

haha by the way this clown John Bush on All Music Guide said this track "hits the heighs of arrogance" hahaha what a clown, go review a soulja boy album

  • someone correct me if im wrong but the voice saying "Your the man" is a sample from Sugar Man by Rodriguez

  • man i love this song. i remember around a week after i got baptized i heard this song and felt like it was talking about me.

    real talk

  • Nas is classic for sure.

  • Brilliance...

  • since the project??? He said since "since the project bench wit crack in my sock sleep"

Dopest MC EVER. His muzik is serious, fuk dat bullsht goin on today.

    peace

  • This is the song that motivates me every single day to get up and do something great, to be somebody in spite of all the people who've told me repeatedly that I can't.

I'll be a freshman at Dartmouth College this fall, and I can honestly say I wouldn't have been able to make it without this track to motivate me everyday, when the racists and doubters attacked.

No question, this is the best track he's ever made.

  • "This is the song that motivates me every single day to get up and do something great, to be somebody in spite of all the people who've told me repeatedly that I can't. "

I couldn't agree more, man. Eminem's Lose Yourself and Till I Colapse do the same shit with me.

  • Dang man, Congrats! That's dope, Nas motivated you all the way to the Ivy League. lol.

  • I know! For real!

The man's motivated me to try and get my name out there, but Nas changed this dudes life, lmao.

    SEVERELY.

Good for you man, keep doing it.

  • I agree with you on that. This is one great track.

  • Keep mashing, stay strong and finish school, it'll pay off in the end. trust me

  • one of my fav nas songs

  • beat sooo sick bro... love it

    just da master

  • guys whatever u want to do in life.......when u b come successful in life play this song.....it all makes sense now....chills damn, nas was on another level

  • he a beast

  • why are some verses of this song also in other songs?

  • Nas is beyond his time.

  • "its suicidal how im smoking so much la

i saw a dead bird flying in a broken sky"

one of nas's most underratted songs ever

  • nas - just a moment is the best song he's done

  • one of the best nas songs...point blank period

  • your da man!

  • A Man's man

  • whats new niggas... this song is very nice.... I´m a rapper from Peru.. jajaja.. well see u my niggas

  • the world is his and he's the man :D

  • THE MAn

  • Who knows where the chorus sample is from ?

  • rodriguez - sugar man . sixto rodriguez. check out the original it is fu&%$# absurdly good. his album- cold fact is a sample dream.

  • when i heard this album i can tell nas was becoming a better artist i played this cd until it couldnt play no more. you can tell he was growing from all the bullshit he was put through. nigga didnt let it break him. dude came fed. poison is another under-rated track off the album

  • it's true ... nas you're tha man

  • ...since the project bench with crack in my socks, sleep

  • This joint is too deep, as a Queens rep..wish there was a vid for this joint, big shout to Nas & Large Professor on the beat...Classic!

  • def underrated song . i just think it's too short, it feels like he goes out too quick . great beat, great sample, and always great lyrics by nas

  • my favorite part is "Starin at my reflection in the mirror, sittin' still in the chair like my conception When everything aroud me got cloudy the chair became a kings trone, my destiny found me it's clear why the struggle was so painful Metamorphosis this is what I changed to God, I'm so thankful."

  • damn, now u got me listenin to that part.. its either bench with, crack "the drug" in my socks asleep.. or 'bench with cracks', in my socks asleep.

  • haha hot song, i love the ??? where it gets tough, most think they got it but doesnt make sense to them,, the verse goes... since the project, bench, with crack in my sock, sleep.

  • id have to say this a pretty dope song

  • Its either this or Memory Lane that are his best.

  • At 1:06 he said, " Since the project bench with cracks in my socks, sleep." Meaning he was homeless, and sleepin on the project benches.

  • nice

  • na he was hustlin stones posted up on the block n fell sleep

  • to be honest i dont think nas ever sold crack

and if he did he wouldnt call it crackS with the s at the end i think he meant the bench had cracks in it and maybe he wasnt homless

  • Even if he didnt sell crack he raps about it. and its meant as crack rocks stashed in his sock, trust me.

  • lol living in the projects in the 80s plp 13 years old sell crack with that oppurtunity he never claims to be a drug dealer but to have hustled for a short time

  • A lot of the stories nas tells are from a 3rd person perspective. He doesn't rap all the time about himself. He tells a lot of stories about what he has seen in his life.

  • He did sold crack for a while..

    till ILL WILL got killed..

so then he realized that hustling was a bad way to get out his hood.

  • One of my fav Nas songs. NAS IS THE BEST!!!

  • damn

    i love this song

  • One of his top 10 songs no question

  • yeah i love it

  • oh yeah

  • "if i, ever made a record- i'd take a check and put something away for a rainy day to make my exit" lyrical genius.

  • Best Nas Song!! I Play Dis Everyday

  • Hope he keeps putting songs like this with meaning on his next album. Can't wait for the supposed release of the Dre/Premo albums on the same day!

  • " your arms are to short to box with god " what exactly do these lyrics mean? anyone know?

ive heard this quote in a lot of hip hop songs.. i think dre says something like lungs to weak to smoke with god"

  • Maybe that god envelops all, that man's arms/power are to short to reach him.

  • he means he's the God in Hip-Hop and people can't fuck with him!

  • He's saying "god" as himself because that's a New Yok slang kinda like homie.

    Example. "Peace, God."

Wu-Tang and Nas say it a lot. Listen to Memory Lane (Sittin' In Da Park) and he says it in there too.

  • Oh dude, I knew that, shit can't believe I didn't connect the dots on that one. Thanks.

  • yeah thats true...i like that old school ny slang..i'm from cali..and out here we say "BIG HOMIE"..but now days..most ny cats don't be using that anymore....they wanna sound like southern artists....is bullshit..

  • Yea that was an early 90's thing really.

  • this song was made for bernie mac

  • oh sh** he did a reference to biggie in this

-the chair became a king's throne

My destiny found me - nas

I'm in your mama crib waitin

    Duct tapin, your fam' destiny

lays in my hands - Biggie

nas has a daughter named destiny

  • Na... that could be only speculation. A lot of Jay Z references though

  • spit lyricaly, words move minds high over matter

360's on my fingers shine blind like rings over saturn

  • wicked sick

  • nas is the definition of a true rapper if you put lil wayne on a nas beat he would be like uh uh birdman help

  • haha He would say some dumb shit like : Im tha man of the year like robin williams/

  • lol yeah he made a song called man of the year

  • The best song off Stillmatic, which is a classic. If y'all like this, check my page, I got my whole mixtape up, 40 bars and War Report are my personal favorites.

  • this tune is sick

  • actually, a stone sharpens iron. stone being the hood...the concrete jungle. suburbanites always come back to the hood. (born n raised in Detroit) whether it be for a tigers game, crack, or unsigned hype. the iron would be dull if the stone aint sharpen it.

  • not to mention the police that make money off my people out here, get off work, and drive back to the burbs.

  • I seen it coming

  • this is my fav Nas song

  • dope song
