Ереван был вынужден признать, что Монте Мелконян действительно был убит 12 июня -- в тот самый день, когда командир разведовательного отряда Ибад Гусейнов в глубоком тылу в районе Мартуни обезглавил очень важную персону, которого потом искала добрая сотня поднятых по тревоге армянских спецназовцев, окликавших в течение нескольких часов исчезнувшего полевого командира не каким-нибудь другим именем, а именно «Аво!»

Однако факт остаётся фактом -- Аво пал не смертью храбрых, а жалкой смертью, моля в последнюю минуту о пощаде. И произошло это не в селе Марзили Агдамского района, а в селе Муганлы Ходжавендского района. Единственная деталь, которую армяне так и не смогли изменить (по понятным причинам), это точная дата ликвидации террориста. Оно и понятно -- долго держать неполный труп в летнее время ради сокрытия обстоятельств гибели их героя армянам представлялось невозможным.

Прошли годы. Обстоятельство гибели Монте Мелконяна постепенно стали мифологизироваться в армянской прессе, обрастать эпическими подробностями и превращаться в красивую легенду. Тот факт, что сами армяне в короткий срок и совершенно несогласованно друг с другом предложили аж несколько версий гибели своего героя, уже свидетельствует о том, что они сами запутались в беспорядочной спешке скрыть истинные обстоятельства уничтожения Аво и отчаянно придать его гибели хоть какую-то героическую окраску.
