When I first heard of a remake of Johnny Got His Gun...I imagined an up to date version.You know,Johnny gets wounded in Iraq or something.Although the original was excellent,the book was way better in detail and has a different ending.

But I see that it was done on stage and recorded for a movie....it must be a great piece to see live....but not recorded.

i do understand why you dont like the stage but it shows how he is imprisoned and just visualizing everything in his head. The play show how [excuse my language] he is mental! you see how he pretends to fight, how he pretends to smoke a cigarette, pretends to use a sledgehammer.

I'm a huge fan of the book, and even the older movie. But this "live on stage, on film" thing is just plain boring. Now, that is only my opinion, which shouldn't matter to anyone else. It was sort of like watching a male ballet or something. I know people will disagree...but it just didn't convey much of the story to me.
