and a question for pauljazzguitar: what are your volume and tone knobs set at and what guage strings are you using and are they flatwounds???

    more like 5 questions

  • This is awesome, i've been spending the last half hour trying to learn the licks.

  • i like the mix of jazz and blues together

  • Where can I find that exact backing track? Great sound . . . and awesome playing . . .

  • Nice clean shave on that one mate!

  • very clean, nice

  • cheers , you should record the sound of the guitar in stereo its more pleaseant that way ;)

  • Nice Playin , you got it togeather. Great Playing Man.........

  • Soft and... Smooth, you got feeling and this is what I call blues.

  • The humble Telecaster showing just how silky smooth she can sound - when in the right hands of course...

The subtle jazz licks really make my ears sit up and listen.

Very nice playing indeed and a pleasure to hear someone holding back and not filling the gaps with techno babble at every opportunity...

    Real mojo....

  • Smoove like Chocolate mirk..

  • that's what I call blues!!!

  • show off.

    <_<

  • very very nice

  • Will you please make a mistake to make me feel better about myself? :P Excellent jam.

  • Very good use of a Major A blues. You play much like I aspire to play. I think what I particularly liked about this was your use of chromatic runs to link chord tones and the jazz embellishments you used tastefully over passing chords.

  • This is what one might call, "a face melter."

  • really niice smoothy sound, thats what I call soul in music man

honestly loved it ;) keep it goin man, some pretty nice licks u got there :))

  • whoa! great hot sound, nice!

  • soo great, man. nice play

  • very nice interpretation of the blues scale in a...check out my new video under blues jamming!

  • its a fender telecaster??

  • i do not know if its a fender

    but its definitely a tele

  • I don't think its fender. Doesn't quite look like it.

  • its a telecaster

  • wow

    cool and relaxed.

    in the key of a?

would i could play like that.

    grts ruud from the netherlands

  • I hope you get paid well for what you do - very respectable.

How great is the guitar - so fortunate are we who have discovered some of it's many mysteries

  • Lovely tone

  • man, i really like how your doing what your doing here. i wish i could phrase with such feeling like you can. great playing for sure.

  • those are some hot licks man

  • your a great player though

  • there aint no iv-ii-V in the down home blues baby!

  • Very Nice ... keep those lessons coming ! I wanna jazz up my own playing ... Great Stuff !

  • fuckin SICK...i LOVE the mixture of the major and minor..and especially how it is so fluent. And especially the jazzy annotations in amongst all of it. True genius at work.

  • nice nice and nice !!!!! *****

  • Lovely!

  • sounds jazzy almost, dude ur great!

  • Telecasters sounds lovely.

  • This just goes to show those shredders that you can say more with a few notes in a measure than you can with a hundred....its not about how MANY notes you can play, its about what you say with the ones you do..

  • I still recommend learning to shred though, because mixing it up is better than sticking to one style or another. Have you heard the guitar solo near the end of Trial of Tears by Dream Theater?

  • wrong. slow blues does not ever include shredding. thats the beauty and soul of it. it has so much feeling, so much meaning. the guitar is slowly telling its story of sorrow. great playing my friend.

  • The best comment I have read. Anyone bitch from dragonforce can play arpeggios really fast, not impressive. true, soulful playing is impressive. playing like this.

  • Well yeah, maybe if you want to play slow blues you don't need to be able to shred. I'm not much of a blues guy I guess.

  • All overdriven shredders take note this is absolutely brilliant playing. Top one !!

  • yes, stormy monday chord prog, is one of the few chord progs in blues that's managed to supersede the same 1-4-5 progression. Love the stormy monday progression.

  • Excelent! I love it! Clean,

  • Is this all pentatonic scale? Amazing.

  • oh, man! That's a very good way to play the blues!!

  • ah !!- that is really nice playing with the blues feeling !!

  • that was really gud!! av u thought about puttin any rock songs on like u teach me???

  • This is tasty guitar playing with a capital T! Thanks for posting.

  • thank you for keeping tasteful guitar playing on the internet. I don't think your distortion pedal was working though...just kidding.

  • There may be players with better "chops" or whatever you may call it, but you have the feel and the soul of the blues. One of the best I have ever heard.

  • remind me it is so nice to play the blues...and you do it like a king :)

    cheers

  • nice dude!! i want to light a cig.. hahah!! i wish i can play that good.. ;P

  • WHAT A GREAT SOUND JUST SHOWS YOU DON'T NEED A MULTI THOUSAND POUND CUSTOM SHOP OR RELIC TO SOUND SWEET. iT'S IN THE FINGERS. WELL DONE MATE!! I ALSO RATE FENIX (mij)TELECASTERS, BETTER THAN USA FENDERS IN MOST CASES.

  • Well said! Im one of paul's students and i just bought that guitar off him. BEST GUITAR EVER!

  • sweet..i had to get a drink and a smoke for this ...nice

  • very nice in deed..............

  • awsome just inspired me to get back to learnin more blues stuff thanks

  • It sounds very nice and you play it very good.

    5 points

  • Those are some sweet licks my man...I can imagine how they would sound on an ES 335...

  • Nice Man!!! I like the sound of your TELECASTER Check my Tele out on my channel. John

  • Reminds me of Larry Carlton.

  • Yes, gotta agree... the way he bends the note at the 1:54 point... just a hint of The BP Blues in there.

  • Beautiful scales..very very very beautiful style!!!

    very compliments paul!! ;-)

    Five stars! :-D

    Keep on Blues

    Riccardo

  • Thanks for the comments everyone!

The background music is Band In A Box software which is a great learning tool.

The guitar is actually a Fenix Tele Made in Korea. The bridge Pick up is a Seymour Duncan and the neck pickup (used here) is stock. The head stock has a kind of hook end to it, rather than the rounded Fender one. You might just be able to make it out in the vid.

    Thanks again for watching.

    Paul

  • paul are you just sticking to the a minor pentatonic scales? sounds great thanks

  • Watch and listen. No.

  • ah you are working with the minor blues scales

  • I'm not the poster, but there are both minor and major in there, as well as some chromatism, some modes too. It's pretty skillfil. It's more cool jazz/blues. Try mixing minor blues with mixolydian mode (1,2,3,4,5,6,b7), jumping between them, perhaps. You don't have to stick with just one scale. Good luck.

  • thanks for the feedback, great stuff

  • it's a tele, don't know if it's american or mexican, i'm guessing american.

    great job ;)

  • wutt kind of guitar is dat

  • Very cool man )

  • Please could you post me your hands,(oh and as you will no longer be needing it,your guitar)

  • very very nice.

  • were did you get the background music from?

  • Mmmmm Ablues,Cmaj penta,some little Cmaj7 and Fmaj7 arpeggios sounds cool

  • Pentatonic rules

  • I love it!!! It's very jazzy and sounds a lot like Herb Ellis! I love how it's calm, defined, and articulate.

  • sounds like A major and A minor pentatonic with some mixolydian

  • Hi I really like this kind of slow mellow soloing. What scale(s) are you using to create that type of melody?

  • Nice but ur using size 9 strings cheater i use 11 and im 12 and do swing to bop its more complex and its better this song is EASY and boring even tho charlie is the best ever

  • Reminds me of Robben Ford. Cool stuff.

  • this is great . do you give lesson?

  • Thanks again for posting your comments!

I' afraid I don't have any tabs for the solo as it is all improvised. The next tutorial I am planning will take on some of the ideas used in this tune,so hopefully this will help.

    Regards Paul

  • Great playing man. Very BB King -ish to me.

  • WO ur good

  • how did you learn this? any reference to books, scales, lessons online?

    you're too good man

  • i would love tabs for this if you have them

  • Sound great. Can I get the tab for that?

  • 10's. thx for the comments everyone!

  • Great Stuff

  • Hey Paul Great pickin you made my day
