I would be willing to bet the Esprit was basically stock. I have a stock 2001 and my stock blow off valves and stock exhaust sound identical to that one. I have owned many fast cars(both exotic and muscle) and can tell you that the ability of the Lotus to "get up and go" at almost any speed is remarkable. It's one weak spot is the sh*tt y transmission - starting at 5000 miles the 2nd gear synchro was shot - now I have 13,000 mi on it and I am getting frustrated "babying" the 1-2 shift.

I bet you all that Esprit has is an Aftermarket Exhaust, BOV, & maybe a Boost controller. Having a twin turbo V8 makes it a bit easier for making extra power. It's just too bad that you can't add too much power as the garbage Renault transmission they have has it's limitations to how much power it'll hold.

Hello, I was wondering if I should purchase a used 1992 Lotus Esprit for $5,500CA. The only issue witht he vehicle is that the engine had caught on fire and would need to be replaced, and needs a new cover over the back aswell, it also received a couple of burn damages around the rear end.

the only weak point on the esprit was the bloody awfall renult gearbox and clutch. the lotus v8 engine was good for 650 bhp without too much internal work. Lotus were just idiots for not uprating the gearbox to one of their own designs. ho hum lack of money i guess. I had an s3 2.2 turbo with the same crappy box and that car had 220 bhp.

Having owned one myself, it doesn't appear to have any mods other than maybe some aftermarket BOVs. I definitely regret selling mine, but I thought it was the best thing to do at the time to finish another project of ine. I plan on getting another one. aybe a 2004 Final Edition.

yes, gallardo is cool, yes, corvette is cool, and so on ....but lotus esprit is a legend. may be it is not as sophisticated, does not have electronic dampers, variable valvetrain, nor modern efficient cimatronics. .. but it still goes fast, has looks and fame second to none. it is rare, and it is worth to keep:)

I found the Esprit owner on a forum with a list of his modifications. His set up was not dialed in correctly for these runs, and he said he was actually making almost the same as stock hp numbers at the time. Now he's making significantly more with snow performances methanol kit working correctly. The only mod that really worked properly here were the HKS SSQVs, and obviously those don't add any power.
