the only book worth reading by Murakami is NORWEGIAN WOOD. Read that book and you will understand why. End of a story. Case closed. But do read it before you flame me. His entire "career" after that book was staged managed by marketing execs in cahoots with bottom line spread sheets. And they purposefully kept Norwegian Wood out of the limelight and the market in the USA in order to create the "persona" to sell these other books. Read NW and you will understand that all the rest is mere hype.
The first book I read from him was 'Kafka on the shore' (Kafka op het strand). I became an instant fan of Murakami, and immediatlly bought all his books. For me, he is the best writer today. About this vid: The man is very enthousiastic, about Murakami's work. It's all good. He is praised for his unique ability to describe things with vivid imagination. They also talk about 'the wind up bird chronicles' (de opwindvogelkronieken).
I would like to recommend "Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman", just some short stories- but really good. (You know, apart from his big novels). His latest, "After Dark" was a bit underwhelming though. He wrote it like a TV script. I hope the next one will be better.
If you like Murakami then try his Master KOBO ABE, then you will agree that Murakami is the Isabelle Allende of Japan to Kobo Abe's being the equivalent of Gabriel Garcia Marquez of Japan
It's about Murakami's approach to literature, about his marathon running to gain stamina for writing, about his isolated life. Krabbé has read every Murakami novel at least two times.

What is this guy talking about Haruki-san?
I don't believe how Murakami is so popular in Europe.
Of course, he is a one of best story-teller in Japan, but I wonder why people of Europe are so enthusiastic about his novels.

he is a great novel writer believe me!
