Easily done with an old television just apply an amplified audio signal to (in this case) the vertical deflection coils whilst applying a fairly rudimentary oscillator to the horizontal deflection coils - its not far off being an oscilloscope
@mofoCutThroat I used to do this sort of thing in years gone by, good fun, just remember to wear something like ski gloves when you are doing it as 25,000 volts does hurt !!! if you touch the wrong bit of the flyback EHT transformer
wait, I'm confused, you said "playing" bohemian rhapsody. but hold on a sec, do you mean bohemian rhapsody is playing and it's moving to it, like the effects on Windows media player.
The line moves to the left or the right the same way the speaker cone moves when it plays Bohemian Rhapsody. It's a continuously updating graph of where the cone is going.
How did you make it? I am going to try making my own as well, with a homemade tube, and some help would be useful. I liked the video; it was really cool.
You are probably right. Most screens need different voltages for each coil. Like for instance, my old CRT has 1.3 ohms on one axis and 13.4 ohm on the other.
Why doesen't windows media player have this as an effect.

Way to put it so accurately that most people are less likely to understand. Ha.
I guess there's plenty of "this wire that wire" descriptions though.

I'm well aware of the dangers. Ha. Serious business.

@mofoCutThroat I worked up from TV's to Tesla generators - that's when voltages get really interesting.............ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzaaaaaaap !!!

@computersolutions164
Tesla is (was?) an interesting person. As are the things he built.
I'm just starting to really look into what was up with him.

@mofoCutThroat Look up "Wardencliffe Tower" and JP Morgan - you'll like it !

@mofoCutThroat Tesla was one brilliant, mad man. Almost split the Earth in half...

You are a complete idiot, an oscilloscope is the original windows media player. Google it. Your license to live has been revoked.

Did you make your own sawtooth generator? Did you make your own amps for the coils?

The best way to analysis a sound wave is to record it and use Matlab. ;)

I wonder what it would look like if he played Teenage Wasteland.

i hate to say it but the sound quality is a bit good for the oscillioscope to be making it
did you put the track over the video or something?

Rotate the yoke for more traditional looking waveforms :)
therevfincham 4 years ago
Or you could switch the signals going to the coils mabye.
jeabo0adhd 3 years ago
I'm not sure if the coils will behave identically, but this might work, yes.

No, the coils are different. It's more simple to turn the yoke 90º and voila! We have the picture at 90º :D
