  • While watching your vid I used Speakeasy's test.

I have a wireless HP Pavilion DV7 laptop and a Netgear Range Max Dual wireless- N router/modem combo. My ISP is At&t basic DSL.

Here are my results from Speakeasy

    Last Result:

Download Speed: 405 kbps (50.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 235 kbps (29.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

That's about 0.41 MBPS for Download and 0.23 MBPS for upload.

HUNH???? When I open my network properties and status it says i'm connected at 300.0 MBPS.

  • @9Tailsfan The network properties doesnt tell you how fast your speeds are, thats how fast your network card/router is.

  • I live in Kazakhstan ,Astana .My speed is about 100-200 kbps.but youtube is out of traffic I mean u can dl youtube however much you want

  • Internet is cheap in Asian countries because there is a lot of competition there, and if one can't provide a good deal then they can always go to another. It's not the same case here in USA you basically have no choice... you want good internet you pay for it.

I pay $24.95/month on RoadRunner in El Paso, TX.

I consider myself having a little above average here in the U.S. but we are really behind as a nation. The only places where you can get decent internet speeds (triple-digits) are at big public universities. It's really sad.

  • Here in Southeast Michigan, the only available internet at my house is ATT DSL or ATT 3G wireless. DSL speed averages 5.2 Mbps/down and 680k up for $40 a month . ATT 3G is 1.9 megs down and 1 meg up......for $60 a month. I have read that in certain parts of New Zealand they are near Gigabit per second speeds.

  • 95mb download

  • korea's #1 not only in internet............

i mean this may seem completely irrelavent, but also HDTV, many sports (recently short track, figure skating etc), breakdance, and so many more. US is starting to change to HD while korea/japan already had HD from years ago. the reason is because US is so big, it's hard to change the entire country whereas korea and japan is easier for change. that's why i love those 2 countries =]

  • Dude, you speak like Mr Smith, Matrix. lol

  • Fios can do 50 meg up and down

  • 49.61 DL .98 UP

  • haha my first pc was a 14.4, here in kazakhstan we have "relatively" high speed however most companies institute a 10gig d/l limit per month with my internet always slowing down in the last week of the month :o(

  • See, I actually can't comprehend this. What use is 100 megs? When I have that in Korea, I have noooo Idea what to do with it.

Here in the UK, where the best I've ever had is 1.2 meg (on a service claiming 8 meg), I've always been limited, such as waiting a few minutes before watching a youtube video... Is the UK behind US? I should imagine so...

i live in cali. wait... i never thought my internet was slow,,,but this makes me wonder how freaking fast internet is in skorea.

  • But Korea can get a bit laggy (ok a lot laggy) when a bunch of people decide to storm a website.

  • that goes for every site.

  • No they don't get laggy u douchebag.

  • too many people confused about megabits with megabytes...

they're not converting their megabits at all lol

  • ooohh! 1200 baud! My first modem was a Western Digital300. As I remember it took a minute to download 10 k of information..

Best speed I have gotten here: 22mb/s.

The providers won't supply that much bandwidth to the individual here in the states. Bandwidth = $. The more they throttle us the more people they can get on the net.

  • im not expert in this area, but the weirdness is that connection to the korean website from europe(at least Denmark) is quite slow.

  • 2.21 down, 0.47 up

  • Im not so sure if everyone here is talking about "MEGABYTE" or maybe "MEGABIT" ?

  • I am in Chicago now. The internet here is slooooow as all hell. Yes, South Korea is ahead in infrastructure, but here in the US we get all the cool stuff, like new flavors of cereal, better music, more options when we want to buy clothes, AND we have diversity. AND, you can get faster internet service, if you pay for it, with no hidden fees and what not, like you find in SK. With that said, I am looking forward to going back tomorrow and getting back on line.

  • And furthermore, in the US, your internet activity isn't being watched as much as it is in Korea. You don't have to worry about being spied on. And even furthermore, in the US, kids don't drone their brains away playing online computer games all day. American kids actually go outside and enjoy the fresh air, which Korea doesn't have. I'd pay 60 dollars a month for slower internet service in exchange for knowing my kids can breathe cleaner air. I would say it would be a fair trade.

  • Comment removed

  • wow...where're you getting your info from? lol! have you been to south korea?

  • yeah, I live here.

  • wow, sorry you feel that way.

  • american kids go out and enjoy fresh air... uh..lol more like get high on drugs or drunk. i think ur only stating the pros of u.s. just to make urself feel better. honestly im in college and lived in california all my life but what you said doesnt really make a living life any better. materialism. not saying diversity is bad but u can't deny the amount of racism/hate there is in the u.s. cereal? r u seriously bringing up cereal to this? rofls. cereal...........lol. wow.

  • @raiseplus jacob is a Korean hater. In other video, he bashed Korea for spending money on biotech when we "could've given it to North Korea". Ignore the troll.

  • @jacob7207 stfu -___-

  • @natenate88 Oh fucking blow me.

  • to jacob7207: In Korea you have more choices because you can buy whatever you want online faster therefore you have more time and more choice to buy whatever clothes you want. That goes the same for music, cereal and any brand of products you can think of, and especially since they can buy from China's million+ monthly products. Its actually cheaper in Korea and more for the buck if you equate the speed of Korea.

  • Cool, Korea is faster at internet. You also have a higher chance of being spied on in Korea as well. Keep the internet cheap and accessible and anyone can afford to log on. Anybody.

  • I get about 10megs down and 1meg up here in LA. Last year we had and upgraded 16megs service but I was disappointed because there really wasn't much difference between the 10meg as it rarely peaked. It was a waste of money (70 a month!) because the infrastructure around our area was dilapidated. Anyways, I always wondered how Korean websites could have so much cr*p on their website that takes forever to load. But I guess you wouldn't have any problems there.

  • Download Speed: 0.98 Mb/s

AT&T DSL through my phone line (in the boonies, no cable out here, LOL). It's not too bad for me personally, especially for rural Louisiana. Satellite internet would give me greater speed, but it's so expensive. I pay $35 a month for what I have. Blown away and impressed by the Korean speeds!!!

  • It made being back in the US very hard.

  • this high speed make internet additing.

  • 54Mbps !! its a snail!! compared to asia and europe

  • It's a real shame that the US is not trying to lead in broadband speed. We like to think we are an information economy but how the heck can we compete when we're this slow? We can't. My download speed in the Atlanta market is 6mbps with ATT extreme and the upload is pretty dismal.

  • I'm using timewarner cable here in CA and I got 12.63 download & 0.42 upload.

I would be happy with half the speed u got there in Korea.

  • And that was to Japan. My test to the server in Korea was 89 mbps down and 24 mbps up.

  • I am happy with what I have. I also remember dial up. :D

    My results:

Download Speed: 28565 kbps (3570.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 1944 kbps (243 KB/sec transfer rate)

    Latency: 21 ms

  • I'm south korean. because Korean home house style have been buit as a lot of massive apartment building in local place each block densely. My download speed is up to 80mbps, Qiranger, you can order to Korea telecom internet service company the Ntopia(Light speed Fiber Cable service - about 30dollars(w36,000) per a month) This service also let transfer up to 95mbps.

  • I'm happy with KT. I'm not sure what other services I can qualify for with my visa. I wish I could get a better mobile phone plan. I need more minutes!

  • MP3 : 8 seconds

    Video Clip : 53 seconds

    Movie: 19 min

    Download: 5.59

    Upload: 2.02

    Ok I guess.

  • ADSL+2 on advarage 6MB down just under a MB up it's the up speed I want improved. That won't happen anytime soon as they are too busy giving money to banks and when they start taxing us soon for it, it better improve otherwise peeps will get more than pissed.

  • I cant beleive people still sell 56K dial up modems.

    3.14 mbs d/l

    0.66 mbs u/l

  • Sometimes that's all that's available. My buddy Andy in GA lives too far away from the trunk for DSL, so he has 56k and that's it.

  • I pay 70:00 a month for a 15 megabit connection, the results to follow...

    Gerald

  • File size transferred : 3.02 MB (3167484 bytes)

Total time taken : 1.34 seconds (1344 milliseconds)

    Throughput : 2356.0 KB/sec [Kilobyte-per-second] = 2.36 MB/sec [Megabyte-per-second] = 18848.0 Kbps [Kilobit-per-second] = 18.85 Mbps [Megabit-per-second]

  • The first value is upload from top to bottom. Lower is download speed.

  • Some people are also paying for a 15 or higher megabit speed but are using a router that is only cabpable of 10 across the broadband cable. You do have to get a router that will do the 100 megabit sec speed to take advantage of what you are paying for. It does cost to much money here but there are many more miles of cable that must be run here in the U.S.. I think geography plays a role.

    Gerald

  • Sorry the top one is download and the bottom upload.

    Gerald ^^^^^^

  • right now I'm at 36Mbps. I pay about $100 for free phone calls all over the USA, 5 TVs and our internet all in one package. I'm going to take your test now and will report when finished. Nope, never mind. I don't download stuff like that. But when I put the cursor over my connection icon just now it was at 56Mbps. Works for us.

  • the important difference for me between living in asia, europe,& america is a reliable connection.

in all my time in osaka,my connection has never gone down.ok,it did once, but we were notified 3 days before and it was only for 10 minutes.

In ny,i can't remember going 30 days w/o losing access.there is nothing more frustrating then not being able to use your computer then when you really need to.

  • I was lucky to go a day without an interruption in AZ.

  • DSL

    DL = 5209 kbps

    UL = 757

    NE Ohio USA

    hmmmmm

  • man i do miss korea...i was there 3/4 years ago and it was still so much faster than here in the states now.

  • im still excellent^^ oh yeah! im a 7.7mbs btw. thats "large" on norways most common provider.

  • ;-)

  • Im from germany, living in a more rural area in a small town. Max Speed here ist DSL16000, which ist about 1,7MB download and 130kbyte upload.

In bigger cities in the surroundings there's way more speed possible for sure, but germany starts to put more effort in increasing the speed - even in rural areas. Some others in smaller villages here only get like 1mbit or not even that..

  • yeah, something needs to be done for rural areas. they are always getting left out of the upgrades.

  • broadband can u do mnore news stories

  • True.

  • 11.94 download 8.82 upload here from boston ma comcast high speed internet.

  • I still remember when 28k seemed like a rapid speed connection. Ah, memories.

Currently getting 54mbps here in Los Angeles... allegedly.

After hearing what you pay there and what you get for it makes me wanna laugh and cry simulatneously.

  • we're 15 years behind everybody. we're becoming completely irrelevant.

  • Download 92.69 mb/s

    Upload 38.60 mb/s

in Los Angeles :) but distance is less than 50 miles.. not 700 like u..

  • So i did one for 650 miles.. and its much slower..

    Download: 7.64 mb/s

    Upload: 1.53 MB/s

  • My test to the server in Korea was 89 mbps down and 24 mbps up. I've seen faster results, but still very happy with them.

  • I'm in the UK & the government have a target of getting everyone up to a minimum speed of 2mb broadband. Yes, 2 mb!

I currently have approx 6mb download. but considerably less upload. Which is still frustrating. But, i'm one of the lucky ones.

Countries & governments need to realise that high speed Internet access is now very important & could potentially hold that country back in the future.

    Good video :)

  • haha, I read that article and posted it in the debate forums. There is an online test that you can use to test your connection. I download at a rate of about 7.47mb/s and upload at about a rate of .74mb/s. Yup, about average in America. We need to catch up with you guys.

  • 28.8 was my first speed.

I upgraded to 33K then to 56K then to DSL a few years later.

I've been with my DSL provider for several years and have no care what my speed is, but I am paying $29/month for the service.

For the low price, I am okay with that.

  • Yes, we all love the Korean internet!!!!

Here is upstate NY, my numbers are right now 7.6 up and 3.1 down. I've gotten better and worse numbers.

  • I get something like 12M up and 16M down on the average.

I believe that those countries with better/faster net is onlt because the information doesn't need to travelthat far. The U.S. is a lot larger and have more to travel. I mean if you walk from one end of the room to the other it is going to take a LOT less time then walking from one end of the city to the other.

For all the haters out there that was a JOKE.

  • I know! That's why tin-can communication is so much better than cellphone communication. It's like being in the same room as the person, it's so fast.

  • Well as you know I am a Canadian, and I thought that it was all fine until you mentioned about how long it takes you in the states to uploads videos to Youtube. I never have a problem with watching videos smoothly and such but man it takes forever to download. Anyway here are my stats

    UP923Kbps

    Down 26.1 Mbps

  • I meant FIOS, not Fices, lol. Internet via light waves kicks the HELL out of Cable. It is available in my part of town, but still rather pricey.

  • Today I got crappy numbers

    Up - 1.9 Mb/s

    Down 11.38 Mb/s

    Ping 10ms

It's okay. Somedays we run a bit slower because the cable service drops out. It amazes me how backwards we operate somthimes. On Long Island, we have areas that still have dial up. Newer fiber optics are being instaled and the speed difference is AMAZING. We had Fices for some time, but went back to Cable due to ridiculous cost. We'll wait until prices drop a bit before resuming with Fices.

  • Fios, or what ever Verizon is calling it, isn't too bad, but it still slower than most of the world. Pretty sad, given how my "money" has gone into upgrading the US telecom infrastructure.

  • i have an outbound at about 1 mb and an inbound at about 3 mb, wow never knew how much better the internet is around the world lol

  • Yeah, I could never have commercial service in the US again. I'd have to pay for a personal T100 line.

  • I started on the DOS BBSes too, geezer geeks unite!

I'm on DSL, getting about what you experienced here in the states; 1 up & 3 down. I can't complain too much though, it's free (perk of job).

  • In sweden we've got quite decent internet aswell. (As you metioned) :) I'm havin' a 100mb internet connection to my apartment. Costs around 300 Swedish Crowns, a month. that's around 30-33 bucks a month.

  • Mine: Download-1.16Mb/s; Upload-0.65Mb/s. I think this is the best I've had in the area. Sucks!

I hope we'll have better, faster internet connection here in the US soon. Btw, thanks for showing off! ;P

  • ;-) I had to go back and check my connection to Seoul...

    89 Down
