hey guys im new at computers and i really wanna learn. Is this the best processor out there right now? and to start a gaming computer, what is more important, a processor, graphics card, ram, hardrive?
i3 - is the entry level to the core processsor family it offers 2 cores with 4 threads making it look like a quad but not performing like one but the performace is still outstanding
i5 - is the mid level of the core processor family it offers 2-4 cores with 4 threads but hyperthreading is only available with the 2 core i5's the i5 is considered the most popular member for its mid price and amazing gaming performance it also features turbo boost
i have an intel i7 740q, 6GB memory, nvidia 330M graphins, 1GB total. it takes 30 secs to boot windows and then 20-30 secs more to load my user, is this allright or slow for an i7 740qm??
@stjo5555 i know a lot more than you turbo boost only works sometimes to oc your system it IS OC ing anyway you dumbass, so you may as well oc if you have water cooling because it is much better than relying on turbo boost to oc your system you make sure it is oc'ed all the time you prat
@LOVS2SPOOG fuck off if u have to oc is only u have a p4!!!a real gamer machine with the i7 980x six core 4 gigs and 12 mb cache and two gtx 465 u dont have to oc

these are good specs right, my specs are:CPU: Intel Core i7 920 @ 3.3 GHz Graphics Card: 2x Nvidia GTX 260 SLI RAM: 6GB DDR3 in Tri Channel Hard Drive: 3TB (3 x 1 TB) Monitor(s): 2x 23" ASUS LCD
Hey guys my grandpa said he is getting me a computer for Christmas he sent me a text message of the stats of the computer, and I want to know if I can play modern warfare 2 on it: * Two 2.93GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere” (12 cores) * 32GB (8x4GB) * Mac Pro RAID Card * Four 512GB solid-state drives * Two ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB * Two 18x SuperDrives * Two 30 inch HD display
I HAVE THOSE GRAPHICS CARDS. Well one of them. But it do! I mean the same board color and cooler of them. I assume they are Palit Radeon HD 4850's 512mb
Hahahahaahahahaha what is the point of buying an 1337$ i7 when you can get a 965 gfor 200. the people that buy those i7 that cost you a leg must be hardcore intel fans. Its only advantage is that it has lots of threads. AMD is born for gaming. Intel is born for the rest. AMD overclocks like bitches. Call me a amd fanboy i don't care, I'm just glad i have done the right thing by buying my 955
im a little outdated what is the difference between the i7 and a quad core duo or core duo extreme last time i checked those were like the best processors but technology goes so fast that i dont even know whats good now.... lol
i am really happy i choiced phenom 965 instead of i5 750..it rocks.. i will NEVER change to intel i7. i don´t even want hyperthrething or turbo boost.
a dual core amd cpu with 2 unlocked, unstable corer will have about the same gaming performance compared to i5 750 (better actually but i will be attacked for this)
@adolf512 amd is behind so far from intel in terms of processor technology progression, the only reason why amd is still making processors is because they are dirt cheap. If they stopped intels prices would shoot up.
Hands down there should be no argument, amd is a wooden plank with wheels and intel is a spaceship.
@adolf512 Originally I went with a Phenom II X4 940 I about a year or so later decided to switch to the core i7 960, oh yes price is wow, phenom when i got it for 230 bucks, the i7 was 588, so price there is no contest, but performance, the i7 blew the phenom away, about a 30% jump in 3D mark Vantage and a 41% jump in processor arithmetic benchmark this was my very first intel build, I have always been an AMD guy but I love my i7, but its performance at a very steep price tag
That's typical for you gaming freaks. There are many other tasks that a processor has to fulfill, not only gaming. For gaming purposes a dual core processor with a high clock is everything you need. But please consider that there are people with other needs than just gaming. Floating point arithmetic or rendering of 3d graphics. Please look up how the phenom performs against the i5 and you'll see that it is better it beats the phenom in many ways.
@DavidVanPatten phenom965 has better performance in reality at multithreded aplications. you will only notise a differense between a good and bad cpu in multithreded situations.
i had an expensive gaming rig in an old ass computer case a couple years ago, my house got broken into, monitor and other expensive looking pc accesories were gone but the computer was still there...so if you live in a ghetto or something you should look into the oldest and shittiest atx case you can find
very wise my friend, I plan to do that too as well building my next computer....gonna make it looks like total shit like it's worthless, the common stupid user only thinks a a computer is powerful or expensive by looking at the case, no the inside....damn man you got reallllly lucky, they thought your computer sucked simply by looking at the case, the most expensive thing in your house was still there you are lucky
I7 processors are the super processors nowadays for home use. I own one and they RULE. However, if you really want some serious power (as well as power consumption!!) try a CX1-iWS when you can. I think they are not for sale yet, and they are not for home use either... so, dont ask. Just try it when you can.

its on whats your using it for and what kinda amd your getting?
i have the new AM3 965 which is the best with dual 4870s and like 8 gigs of dual channel gaming ram so its on what kinda cpu and what your using it for....
if you want high end fps then i would say get the 965 and the 5970 ati haha thats ganna be alot ont he card but its worth every penny and you be happy
Is the i7 very technical to operate? Does it require frequent manual tweaks & adjusting to make sure memory, voltage, speed etc are always balanced in order to get maximum performance while preventing damage? Or can it control all of that automatically based on the application? The i7 seems great, but I'm not used to toggling all those settings, and I dont think I want to be bothered having to switch them all the time just to get performance out of it. Or should I just go with a fast Core 2 Duo?
uh..... its just a one time thing when u install it, infact if your that worried you could set all settings to AUTO, ppl like to overclock and that is when you have to tinker but even then its easy and just a few settings have to be changed and its not a constant process its done in the bios and saved.
hi, I'm not too versed with the new i7 processors. I'm not that big a gamer, although I play from time to time, like flight sims, and plan on becoming more familiarized with the gaming world. I still want a super fast system with up-to-date specs, at a budget of aout $1000. Im about to get a dell studio 15 laptop:
Intel core i7-720QM 1.6GHz (6MB cache)
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
Would those specs get me by? More questions coming up...
Which is better/faster for multitasking, video editing, web design, etc? i7-860 2.8GHZ 8mb L3 cache, 4GB dual channel ddrs sdram 1333mhz VS. i7-920 2.66GHZ 8mb L3 cache, 12 GB tri channel ddrs sdram 1066Mhz *both have 1 GB video card
thx for the info. So even tho the I7-920 has less ghz and front bus speed it's still faster? I've stuck with a pentium 4 for over 10 yrs so not sure if I'll be upgrading to i9 soon. lol. Seriously tho, it's about a $600 difference of the two so wondered if I would get that much more for the money..
Case: NZXT Tempest CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720 Cooler: Zalman CNPS9700LED RAM: Gskill DDR2-800 MotherBoard:Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P PSU: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX950-D-B 950W Continuous Graphics/Video Card:XFX HD-577A-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 Hard Drive:WD Caviar Black 640GB HDD $74.99 DVD Burner: Sony Optiarc Black IDE DVD-ROM Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1 Windows 7 Total= $917.34 Is that worth it for gaming? all r from newegg.
well, I don't know anything about graphics design, so i wont be doing any rendering anyways, I just wanted to get an idea of what the Core i7 can do....
I would like to play a game while burning a CD, or converting a video or something..
hello!!, im not a gamer but i want a fast processor. would the i7 be worth the money if I did things like programming or other fun things? things that not necessarly would´we need a good gpu or hdd but still needed to be fast? thanks!! :)
to be honest gaming wise i7 and core 2 duo the same, but i still love my i7 makes much more heavy multi tasking easy.converting etc, still great for gaming
Just baught a gaming PC for $800 on Ebay.

Sometime I even did't noticed some new things that release.
the different is i7 got 7 thread and compare to core 2 duo with 2 thread and core 2 quad with 4 thread.

Or should I just go with a fast Core 2 Duo?
cometoanend 2 years ago
No they didn't have the tutorial or manual books for overclocking...but the i7 have a function called
Intel Turbo Boost...You just turn it on then the processor will reach up from 2.66 to 2.93 automatically...
: )
Just go with i7...no more compromize..
Dantei136 2 years ago
uh..... its just a one time thing when u install it, infact if your that worried you could set all settings to AUTO, ppl like to overclock and that is when you have to tinker but even then its easy and just a few settings have to be changed and its not a constant process its done in the bios and saved.

hi, I'm not too versed with the new i7 processors.
More questions coming up...
cometoanend 2 years ago
Maybe this is ok...
i7 920
Msi X58M
3gigs ddr3 value ram
GPU is up to you...
Dantei136 2 years ago
flight sims...X-plane by any chance?

of course i7 920...
It have a HT technologist and i7 860 doesn't have it...
Better go with i7 920...then the motherboard socket LGA1366 that i7 920 using will support a new core i9 cpu that will be release next year...
i7 860 is a mainstream platform...
It have only 4 thread...
But i7 920 got 8 thread...
Thinks carefully...
: )
Dantei136 2 years ago
thx for the info. So even tho the I7-920 has less ghz and front bus speed it's still faster? I've stuck with a pentium 4 for over 10 yrs so not sure if I'll be upgrading to i9 soon. lol. Seriously tho, it's about a $600 difference of the two so wondered if I would get that much more for the money..
webmasterd 2 years ago
yeah it's faster then 860...
Get the 920 bro...
you'll never regret with it performance...
I got mine a W3520 but still in progress...
waiting for a motherboard that are so difficult for me to decide which brand to go...

what i7 is better the 975 or the 975 extreme, they both have the same Ghz
LLOYD19851012 2 years ago
The extreme version is more suitable for overclocking, and there are some other minor differences. Overall, the extreme version is better.

yeah it's great spec...
But why don't you choose 4890...?
Dantei136 2 years ago
lol sorry im not that familar in the radeon series. Why is 4890 better??
CorneliusGrim 2 years ago
Yeah cause 5770 is just an updates of 4770...
I't is better then 4770 with same spec...
Cannot beat 4890...
5870 is an updates of 4870 and 5870...
5870 and 5850 only can beat the 4890 and 4870...
That is the differences between them...
I got this information based on benchmarking
and some review site...
: )

thanks for the update man. Be sure to check this out.

What if your using a program such as this guy is using, can you do anything else as it's rendering? because he said it's using up 100% cpu usage....
so would the usage be lowered on this rendering program to make room to run other programs? how does that work?
Thanks!
1981z28camaro 2 years ago
I think there is no room to run another program while you are running the rendering program...
If you got the quadro GPU...sure it can..
If you are running Prime 95...maybe it can handle another program you wanna open...but make sure the program not so heavy...
Dantei136 2 years ago
well, I don't know anything about graphics design, so i wont be doing any rendering anyways, I just wanted to get an idea of what the Core i7 can do....
I would like to play a game while burning a CD, or converting a video or something..
just your average multitasking :-)
1981z28camaro 2 years ago
yeah if you want to burn CD while you playing a video games you can...

hello!!, im not a gamer but i want a fast processor. would the i7 be worth the money if I did things like programming or other fun things? things that not necessarly would´we need a good gpu or hdd but still needed to be fast? thanks!! :)
budskap0 2 years ago
You better go to Phenom II 965...
Faster as i7 cpu...
It would save your money...
Then you can buy the solid state drive and a good gpu...
It would be faster as you want...
Text me your pc specs that you think you wanna go...
: )
Dantei136 2 years ago
hey thanks! i totally forgot about amd lol
my spec.list is really short..
* cpu, board, memory: (dont know)
* Gpu: Asus Radeon EAH4870 1GB
* HDD, OS, Optical drive, case : (old pc)
* Cooling: D-TEK FuZion cpu waterblock (with radiator, pump)
* Psu: Corsair 650W
sorry for the weird list, i have a budget on maybe 800 USD (8000 swedish krowns). wouldn´t i be better off with an intel i7 :)
budskap0 2 years ago
Yeah...
If i7 go pick the asus p6t se...
Ram of course 4gb...
or
-Phenom II X4 965 CPU
-Msi MSI 790FX-GD70 or lower
Take which one based on your budget...If you had more mony just go for i7...
Text me after you had made your decision...
: )
Dantei136 2 years ago
lol the phenom is not faster than the i7
IRud3Bwoy 2 years ago
I know...
It just some review site said that but the true is i7 is still the fastest cpu in planet!
: )
Dantei136 2 years ago
to be honest gaming wise i7 and core 2 duo the same, but i still love my i7 makes much more heavy multi tasking easy.converting etc, still great for gaming
IRud3Bwoy 2 years ago
yeah...
what i7 pc spec do had?
Dantei136 2 years ago
920 oced to 4.0 i see no difference at 3.0 and 4.0 so i left it at 3.0 lol
