this surely could have been a hit as an "A" side..not theflip of another...still great to know someone else obviously feels the same....he was my favorite from the 60s
Did Del Shannon ever make a really bad record, I think that sometimes the B sides of some his records would have been hits had they been released as A sides.
This is my fave Del Shannon song without doubt and he made some corkers. Have it on CD and although it was "only" a B side, it has that true 60s defining feel for me. I saw Del live at Manchester Apollo along with Frankie Ford, Bobby Vee, Marvelettes and Rick Nelson - what a great show. Sadly, Rick died shortly after and Del not long after that! What a waste!
I saw the same show in Harrogate in the November, Bo Diddley was also part of the line up , I totally agree with you about the show , Del finished the first half of the show and Rick closed the final half . One of the best shows I have been to .@TheRoloCasanova
dont guild the liily was made after his first release..'runaway' .....'you never talked about me' was the 'b' side of 'hey little girl....it was used in the film 'its trad dad' starring helen shapero, craig douglas.johnny leyton, acker bilk, the temperance seven........
hi jackandizzy and all Del fans,i'm almost certain i heard "DON'T GUILD THE LILY" also "YOU NEVER TALKED ABOUT ME" before runaway. some one some where must be able to tell me how to find these, hopefully on my laptop. thanks in advance.raytheloft.
I first discovered Del upon the issue of 'Runaway'. I was about 12yo at the time. I'm now fast approaching 60. I was lucky enough to see Del every time he came to Scotland - which was quite a lot [maybe a dozen times.] Those were the days!
My mom used to have us dance to Keep Searchin' by Del (and Yeh Yeh by Georgie Fame). I was just 4 years old. Now I'm in my 50's and keep listening to Del, feel so bad the he commited suicide.. I damn that Prozac, but who knows for sure. He was so prolific and helpful in the music scene! I have his Anthology.. It's fantastic and I recommend it to anyone who loves Del Shannon!
i could have seen del ,in middlesbrough 1962 at the night club for ten shilling (50 pence),but my good lady did'nt want to go so i was broken hearted.22years later my second good lady said, dels on at the top hat club at spennymore, lets go.yes i really got to see my hero.does anybody have the sound track of that night please please.07974944093.
isn't it..'broken words..broken promises (cause) broken hearts? at least that's what i'm hearing here. just an fyi.....thanks for the song. flip 'keep searchin' still the better side but i like this side too.
actually he was very highly rated....only american artist to withstand the Beatles onslaught on the British charts during the sixties. Also was going to be offered Roy Orbisons place in the Travelling Willburys......met him many times...a real gent!

Padre De Dios, his voice is in his song. I feel like shedding tears by just listening. I'm Hispano and sentimental at that.
