The Chevy Volt pipeline is overflowing. GM is sitting on 6,300 Volts which represents 154 days of inventory at current sales levels and that's no way to sell cars for a profit. As such, GM is shutting down production of the Volt for five weeks beginning on March 19. Not surprising cause the car is outrageously priced maybe give more rebates on these POS you might sell more you wonder why people by the competition. GM failed again.
If you haven't driven a Volt, you don't know what you are talking about. It is a very solid car, handles well, the interior is excellent and most people are getting more than 35 miles of AER 9 months of the year and around 25-30 in the winter. Plus it uses American electricity instead of foreign oil most of the time. Great car.
@mcximus 8 hours to charge on a 120v outlet, 4 hours on a 240v circuit, and it takes a fully charged battery to travel 40 to 50 miles, and another 300 to 400 miles in extended range thanks to a gas generator
My 2000 Camry gets 36 mpg highway. On Christmas, I drove it from Maryland to NYC and from NYC to Boston and I still had half a tank of gas left. I could easily go 600+ miles in one tank of gas. Hybrids are a waste of money if only looking for fuel economy. If they do indeed pollute the environment less, then it can be considered. All these computers and crap put into cars nowadays will only cause painful problems down the road.
This is the wrong comparison for the Chevy Volt. If you compare it to anything, it should be the EVs that are out there (Nissan Leaf) or the plug-in Prius that will come in the middle of the model year. Want a comparison for the Camry Hybrid? Try the Ford Fusion Hybrid or the eAssist '13 Chevy Malibu.
I really liked this video guys...Although I do absolutely love the new camry, most ppl say its bland or whatever, but I think toyota did a supreme job with this model! GMs volt hasnt been selling, it probably wont until the tech advances more. I would have had the camry winning in this challenge is all but one test...the mpg
Diesel is cheaper where I live so a passat tdi makes more sense than either of these two because of the colder canadian climate, the camry would probly be a better buy while the volt is this sort of electric car that likes 91 octane. Both the camry and volt will eventually need battery replacement which is not very environmentally friendly. the chevy will probly start falling apart as soon as the warantee just like my friends sierra
Hey Roman, did u see how great your hair looked in this video? Just sayin..What is the Volt classified as in car size? Compact sedan, full sized? Great video guys
Hey, guys. Great mash-up as always. Love your style. It'd be really cool in these mash-ups if you ended up commenting on which of the two you would buy or prefer to own - just as a sort of "all points aside" thing. Happy holidays :)
The Volt that caught on fire had been doing side-impact test (for its safety rating for the NHTSA), and it caught fire three weeks after the fact. Unfortunate, yes, but I don't think it makes the Volt a car that deserves "catching on fire" jokes :)
Volt batteries catch fire like 3 weeks after a crash test and the media makes it out like they are going to burst into flames while driving. People are just LOOKING for reasons to hate this car and I just don't understand it, it seems like a really great car that will be even better when the cost comes down. I daily a Prius now and I'm looking forward to the day I can trade it in for a Volt...even if it costs a little more, it's an American car running on American energy!
Roman, tell GM to put a bigger electric motor in the Volt. 0 to 60 in over 10 seconds is not only unacceptible but dangerous. This car on going to die on the vine if GM doesn't improve the performance or offer a real sports car option.
@lgreen5 but keep in mind the Toyota Prius takes 9.9 under optimal conditions, up there it would probably be a good second and a half slower. Sounds like you're just biased against GM lol
@lgreen5 Have you test driven the Volt? I own one, and it has all the power you would want. In "sport" mode, it blows most cars away off the line. I've owned many hot cars in my 45 years of driving, and the Volt is no slouch. Go take it for a test drive, and you will be surprised.
@lgreen5 that was 0 to 60 with 2 guys in the winter. Normal 0-60 is 8.8. Going up mountains, the generator, the battery, and the 2 electric motors hook up and provide 200 + hp. I go up the siskiyous (the vine is a mole hill). I zip along, passing slow pokes. You have to put it in mountain mode. Go to youtube/ chevrolet volt: how does it work? for a cool animated demo of how the 3 motors work. The performance is great. You need to test drive one. Take it up a hill.
Ooh lets be honest here, the Camry is cheaper to own. Also it didt cost taxpayer money to develop and doesnt give away tax payer money for every unit sold. I know for a fact it can go at least 1 second faster in your 0-60 test where the Volt numbers you got was pretty accurate, go to a lower altitude Camry will, even so 1 sec is huge. If you'll have people over 5'8 riding with you, I wouldn't get the Volt. Styling wise Volt does look cool, but the Camry doesnt look bad either, Camry hands down.
I like the cool Volt but $40K before incentives is far too rich for a Chevy small car. Although, I'd heavily consider it over the Camry. I'll just wait until the Voltec powertrain costs plummet in the next couple years.
The Camry is kinda boring IMO, the Volt is packed with cool tech. Diesels are great, but when you figure in the extra 30% cost of diesel over gas, and all the new emissions crap they require on them I think I would rather get a direct injected mid size for $18K or so, like a new Elantra. Regardless of what you like you need to decide are you trying to save MONEY or the environment. If it's money, be smart buy a used car for $5K that gets in the 30MPG range. It works out better.
Like I said $40,000 up front, most people do not want to finance that amount of money UP FRONT unless its name begins with Audi, BMW, or a high end Ford Taurus, Hyundai Genesis now which of those get combined 35 mpg? Just saying if we are talking about tech then give me a A3 TDI fully equipped.
@goru426 I fully agree but why not invest in diesel since it gets much better milage now. What type of vehicle has won the LeMans for the past oh lets say since 2006, I mean fix a problem now or continue to write it off because of the horsepower gains with gas.
What would be great, a diesel powered Volt instead of gas. Sounds like VW/Audi needs to take a chance.
@Arguemento you won't see much Volts on the road unless you live near a metro area, even then who do you know with 40K to spend and save our dependence on foreign oil?
I'd rather have a Passat TDI even with the cheap looking interior and bland exterior, I can always get diesel here in the good ole US of A lol.

Good one!
I think that with the new generation of direct injection 4-cylinders the gas technology will be still around for many years to come.
For $18K you can get a direct injection mid-size sedan and get 35mpg average. The cheapest hybrid you can get will cost you $25K.
I'm sure that in 3-5 years they will improve the gasoline engines mileage to 50mpg.
It will take at least 10 years before the hybrid technologies catch up, when it comes to price/value equation.
