Zulu's record comes from fightiing tourists visiting brazil, not a professional record by any stretch, in MMA he's got a 5 -10 record. A lot has changed since then. But Royce was no accident. Rickson was a powerful warrior and in his time, I believe, the best.

@biganto69 Saku was clowing around in the first fight 1 sec after doin that he was pulling Royce's pants down. Even Royce knew it because he never made complaint which he does often. As for the 2nd fight most MMA anylists and pundits thought Saku won that fight since he was the more aggressive of the two, not to mention Royce tested positive for steroids for that fight on 2 samples and was suspended by the CSAC for the remainder of his fighting license.

Much credit has to be given to Sakuraba in regard to the Royce Gracie fight. First of all, he allowed Royce all rules he wanted. Second, his endurance during the fight was phenominal. Third, his defense was something that I'd never seen used against Royce when Royce had his back. Original. The psychological factor was huge. Finally, Sakuraba left no doubt at the end of the fight who won after (was it 5?) 15 minute rounds. He did something that nobody had done.
Right. Royce was tested positive for steroids. However, to state that steroids was the only reason Royce won the match isn't really being honest (not to justifiy what he did). Royce didn't win the rematch because of increased strength or stamina. Royce only won the rematch because he was busier. I scored the fight 30-29 Gracie. The judges scored 30-27,29-28,29-28 unanimous decision. I had the first two rounds even with Gracie winning the third.
You kind of contradict yourself there though. If you have increased strength and stamina, of course you are going to be able to fight longer at your best and be busier. Whereas Saku probably tired in the third round Royce still had that extra stamina?
Not really. My argument in this situation is that steroids didn't make a difference. First, on strength, Sakuraba was much stronger than Gracie in both fights. The strength effect was negligable. Very little, if at all. Second, the second fight was only 3 rounds, 5 minutes each, with breaks inbetween. Do you really think that Gracie would be winded after this? Especially given the kind of fight it was? And Saku was definately not tired. Those 2 fought for 1hr and 15 fighting minutes before.
you gotta remember along with strength, steroids increase reflex and reaction time. that plays a big part in fighting. specially in royces style. baseball players use roids and the clear because it increases their reaction/batspeed. we also can't forget that Saku barely passed the physical for this fight.
Sakuraba beat Royce to the punch at 1:04 into the fight. For quite a while Royce was on his back throwing leg kicks. Royce spend much time trying to fend off an attempted Kimura. I can't really see where Royce had better reflexes. I think he wanted to keep busy because of the rules of the fight, being 5 minute rounds with the probability of a judge decision at the end. Maybe Saku wasn't 100%, and that could explain why he wasn't as busy. But Royce just adjusted his fight plan to the rules.
Even though Saku wasn't 100%,he was stronger than Royce and in my eyes he showed little sign of fatigue. The real difference in the fight was the positioning of Royce in the third round against the ropes where Royce was holding on to Saku's arm while behind him and landed a series of punches. This was due to positioning and not to reflex and reaction. More important in this fight was the technique involved than the strength. Saku was just looking to submit with a kimura most of the fight.
Rickson Gracie was a better matchup against Sakuraba than his brothers because his style was a bit more agressive. Also because he is bigger , faster and stronger than the others. If Royce had fought under regular Pride rules during his fight, he would have probably won with a decision. But those weren't Pride rules he fought under. Sakuraba just beat him. They did, however, have a rematch. Royce won.

You are right about everything partaining to Royce and Saku. I will give you the benefit of any doubt about Rickson because I am ignorant about his role in that situation. I just like the matchup. I think that Rickson would have had a better chance against Saku than Royce because of style differences and strength. actually Sakuraba has said several times when asked that he'd fight Rickson. Rickson has said over and over that he'd beat Sakuraba, but when official challenges are made to him he's backed down. and yes he's backed down from Rutten challenges too, yet still says he'd beat them both. The difference is Sakuraba fights and Rickson just continually talks.

First thing Rickson stopped fighting after his son died in July of 2001 he never turned down any fights, period. Seconde if you don't have a ground game then thats your problem for not being a well rounded fighter. Third Rickson is 11 years older than sakuraba so it would have been impossible for them to fight in both of there primes considering he retired in 2001 and 99-00 was when sakuraba started his prime.

Fedor's an amazing fighter but every fighter loses eventually. Great job of Fab taking the sub as he did. And as for Rickson's 400-0 record, even Helio, his father, said it was a joke. Rickson counts rolling with students as victories. in GJJ he's a stud sure. In MMA he's 11-0 against noone witha decent ground game.

Zulu's record comes from fightiing tourists visiting brazil, not a professional record by any stretch, in MMA he's got a 5 -10 record. Takada was no more than a pro wrestler no a real fighting ability. He was Saku's boss not his equal in ring.
And in Helio's own words Rickson's record is a joke.
By your own words Saku has the right to say the same since he dominated the Gracies, yet he remains respectful.

As for Royler? He, Rickson and Royce always had their own "special" rules for their matches. Always putting matches in their favor with the rules.
Saku kicked the crap out of Royler the entire fight. the outside ref saw the shoulder dislocation and pointed it out. Royler even said it was dislocated later

@rtfuhj Rickson's been beat atleast twice that he won't admit to. a BJJ match with Machado as i said Rickson is 2-1 against him and a Sambo match against Ron Tripp.
He probably does have the best record in BJJ, but BJJ is not MMA. It's not complete fighting.
As for him having Samurai spirit, if so he wouldn't have backed out of the fights with Sakuraba and Bas when they challenged him after he said he'd beat them easily. Instead he sent his family to fight and all lost to Saku.

In Renzo Gracie's book, " Mastering Brazilian Jujitsu"- and yes, that's how it's spelled on the book. The fore word of the book, describes why the family chose Royce to compete. It was largely do tho the fact that Royce was not overly imposing nor overly muscular. They did this on purpose to showcase the strength of their system. Royce was hand-chosen to compete. A lot has changed since then. But Royce was no accident. Rickson was a powerful warrior and in his time, I believe, the best.

Sakuraba won both of the times they fought. The first time Sakuraba won fair and square. The second time he won due to disqualification. It's over. There is no way to say Royce was winning. @biganto69 Saku was clowing around in the first fight 1 sec after doin that he was pulling Royce's pants down. Even Royce knew it because he never made complaint which he does often. As for the 2nd fight most MMA anylists and pundits thought Saku won that fight since he was the more aggressive of the two, not to mention Royce tested positive for steroids for that fight on 2 samples and was suspended by the CSAC for the remainder of his fighting license.

Much credit has to be given to Sakuraba in regard to the Royce Gracie fight. First of all, he allowed Royce all rules he wanted. Second, his endurance during the fight was phenominal. Third, his defense was something that I'd never seen used against Royce when Royce had his back. Original. The psychological factor was huge. Finally, Sakuraba left no doubt at the end of the fight who won after (was it 5?) 15 minute rounds. He did something that nobody had done.

Right. Royce was tested positive for steroids. However, to state that steroids was the only reason Royce won the match isn't really being honest (not to justifiy what he did). Royce didn't win the rematch because of increased strength or stamina. Royce only won the rematch because he was busier. I scored the fight 30-29 Gracie. The judges scored 30-27,29-28,29-28 unanimous decision. I had the first two rounds even with Gracie winning the third.

Not really. My argument in this situation is that steroids didn't make a difference. First, on strength, Sakuraba was much stronger than Gracie in both fights. The strength effect was negligable. Very little, if at all. Second, the second fight was only 3 rounds, 5 minutes each, with breaks inbetween. Do you really think that Gracie would be winded after this? Especially given the kind of fight it was? And Saku was definately not tired. Those 2 fought for 1hr and 15 fighting minutes before.

you gotta remember along with strength, steroids increase reflex and reaction time. that plays a big part in fighting. specially in royces style. baseball players use roids and the clear because it increases their reaction/batspeed. we also can't forget that Saku barely passed the physical for this fight.

Sakuraba beat Royce to the punch at 1:04 into the fight. For quite a while Royce was on his back throwing leg kicks. Royce spend much time trying to fend off an attempted Kimura. I can't really see where Royce had better reflexes. I think he wanted to keep busy because of the rules of the fight, being 5 minute rounds with the probability of a judge decision at the end. Maybe Saku wasn't 100%, and that could explain why he wasn't as busy. But Royce just adjusted his fight plan to the rules.

Even though Saku wasn't 100%,he was stronger than Royce and in my eyes he showed little sign of fatigue. The real difference in the fight was the positioning of Royce in the third round against the ropes where Royce was holding on to Saku's arm while behind him and landed a series of punches. This was due to positioning and not to reflex and reaction. More important in this fight was the technique involved than the strength. Saku was just looking to submit with a kimura most of the fight.

Rickson Gracie was a better matchup against Sakuraba than his brothers because his style was a bit more agressive. Also because he is bigger , faster and stronger than the others. If Royce had fought under regular Pride rules during his fight, he would have probably won with a decision. But those weren't Pride rules he fought under. Sakuraba just beat him. They did, however, have a rematch. Royce won.

You are right about everything partaining to Royce and Saku. I will give you the benefit of any doubt about Rickson because I am ignorant about his role in that situation. I just like the matchup. I think that Rickson would have had a better chance against Saku than Royce because of style differences and strength. Not to say that Rickson would have had a lock on the fight, but I think the matchup was better. I wish Rickson would have taken the fight. Good matchup. I like both fighters.

Sakuraba defeated Gracies and three of them is in the year 2000, then Rickson suddenly retired. The last time Rickson fought is in May 2000, the last Gracie who fell is Ryan Gracie in dec 2000.

He prefered to say he could beat them and Fedor in 30 seconds while they were actually FIGHTING. actually Sakuraba has said several times when asked that he'd fight Rickson. Rickson has said over and over that he'd beat Sakuraba, but when official challenges are made to him he's backed down. and yes he's backed down from Rutten challenges too, yet still says he'd beat them both. The difference is Sakuraba fights and Rickson just continually talks.

First thing Rickson stopped fighting after his son died in July of 2001 he never turned down any fights, period. Seconde if you don't have a ground game then thats your problem for not being a well rounded fighter. Third Rickson is 11 years older than sakuraba so it would have been impossible for them to fight in both of there primes considering he retired in 2001 and 99-00 was when sakuraba started his prime.
